Cymson is right. When Hank returns, Bert will move to the second line. ZDH was the best line in the NHL until Hank injured his back, why mess with success and gamble with unproven line combinations? Save that for later if those three can't reinginte the tear they went on for nearly three months. That being said, true, Bert has soft hands, can protect hank and dats, and is a huge presence in front of the net, but not only is Homer one of the best scorers within 3 feet of the net, but he is a monster along the boards-digging out the puck for dats and hank.

Its simple: If you want to get rid of some of the nasty stick work going on now, you need to emliminate the instigator rule and let the players police themselves.

Did anyone attend the game? I was there last night and when he stepped onto the ice for the pregame warmup there was a loud cheer from the fans. The funniest thing happened during the pregame warm-up..... The players line up in a semi-circle near the blue-line while a player near the goal feeds another player the puck as he skates across the hash marks...the second player then feeds the puck to a player in the semi-circle who then skates up the middle and fires one on the goalie. Apparently, Bert (in the semi-circle) thought the puck was comming to him each time ...he had to have had a half dozen false starts. Sorry if it doesn't translate well, but it gave me a few chuckles. Bert definately looked rusty, but did seem to improve as the game progressed. You can definately pick him out when he's on the ice...he towers over the rest of the team (Franzen excluded).

Osgood still has flashes of brillance, but, IMHO, he no longer has the ability to steal a game...which is something every team needs. That being said, looking at the list, the only viable free agent option is Giguere. If the Wings and their fans must suffer through a complete season with Ozzie as #1, either Liv or Howard need to at least be backup if not split the season with him.
