Thank you for all the memories Ozzie. You were my first hockey hero growing up and although i'm an adult, I still look up to you. As usual, you put the team before yourself and chose to end your HHOF career at a time that was not only appropriate for you, but most appropriate for the Detroit Red Wings. I'm not sure what the future holds for you, but know you are a Red Wing for life. I will make sure my kids know of the Great Wizard of Oz, how you could bring the Joe to a roar with every save, and how you knocked that POS Roy ON HIS ASS! Enjoy your retirement Ozzie, you deserve it! Edit: reading my post brings a tear to my eye. We will miss you Ozzie.

Lidstrom is clearly a special player, clearly the standout defenseman of this era, and often argued as the greatest ever, ect. We're all Wings fans here, you should all understand the point I'm making. It's already a certainty that Lidstom will be a first-ballot HHOF inductee, but is that all? Could he join the uber-exclusive clique of player the Hall admits immediately? In other words, is Lidstrom in the same class as: Dit Clapper Maurice Richard Ted Lindsay Red Kelly Terry Sawchuk Jean Beliveau Gordie Howe Bobby Orr Mario Lemieux Wayne Gretzky I think there's evidence that he is. Not only has he been the most dominant at his position for over a decade, he is currently second to Orr in Norris Trophy's won, the first Euro trainedcaptain to win the SC and Conn Smyth - not to mention his numerous All-Star selections and individual achievments. The biggest knock against him has to be how quietly he's dominated. He doesn't hit like Scott Stevens, he didn't fly like Orr, he's just patient and unyielding like Lidstrom. What do you think?

Reasons i'm optimistic: I like the projected edge our D can now bring. With the exception of Lidstrom, every defensman is capable and likely to punish you at every opportunity. The offense was 2nd last season, I don't see that big a drop off next year provided our new coaching staff can revamp the system we've been using since Bowman. I do hope and expect to see Howard feed off his playoff performance and improve his regular season numbers.

FYI: more fans discussing on LGW than Letsgosharks lol. He's been a whipping boy in SJ since his first run. Not surprised the Sharks got rid of him, but very surprised they didn't get a better value, plus doesn't he have a NTC?
