People often wonder why they are called the Blue Jackets. Just be glad they settled on that name. The alternatives were frightening.....- 687 replies

I'd even go one step further. I'd play Hossa on RW with Pavs and Z. That would be the most dominant line in hockey. I can understand wanting to spread the talent, but I'd love to see how that line would play once they had some time to gel. It's harder to do that with Franzen sidelined, but once he returned I'd throw them together. With Homer out of the lineup, I'd like to see this combination: Datsyuk, Z, Hossa Hudler, Filppula, Franzen Cleary, Kopecky, Samuelsson Maltby, Draper, Helm
-
Why do we never see the top line consist of Zetterberg, Datsyuk & Hossa? Don't get me wrong, I understand Babs tryiong to spread the wealth and make match-ups harder for the opponent, but you never see this line together, even on powerplays or when we're behind. To me, it seems to be a no-brainer. We have enough depth to make the other three lines very effective. I seem to recall that we did okay last year, and the only forward we lost was Drake. Why do we not see this lineup: Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Hossa Franzen, Filppula, Holmstrom Cleary, Hudler, Samuelsson Maltby, Draper, Kopecky Hell, there are any number of line permutations for lines 2-4 that look good. Top Line + Hudler, Filppula, Franzen Cleary, Kopecky, Holmstrom Maltby, Draper, Samuelsson or Top Line + Cleary, Filppula, Franzen Hudler, Kopecky, Holmstrom Maltby, Draper, Samuelsson Etc, etc, etc. Opinions? Personally, I don't think that Babs wants Homer or Samuelsson to fall to 2nd or 3rd line duty, respectively.

From the Photoshop Wars this past playoffs......
-
Poor Don. Poor Gary. Hossa coming over to the Wings must've put a real sour feeling in their bellies. Not only does Golden Boy Sid lose his superstar winger, but that Euro rich team that won the Cup looks almost like a lock for next year's Cup.....because they added yet another "soft" Euro superstar. Hell, we'll likely only play a single North American player - Cleary - in the top 9 of our forward corps next season.
-
Whoops, can't believe that I left off Hudler. So much talent that I was able to look him over. I'd line us up thusly: Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Holmstrom Hossa, Filppula, Franzen Hudler, Kopecky, Cleary Maltby, Draper, McCarty Reserve: Samuelsson As much as I love the Grind Line, they're the fourth line with this much talent to spread around.
-
Well, I guess it's just a matter of how the team lines up, but I'd consider Draper's line to be the fourth if they line up as I anticipate: Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Holmstrom Hossa, Filppula, Franzen Cleary, {Kopecky or Helm}, Samuelsson Maltby, Draper, McCarty

Obligatory forward lines thread for next season
Thunderpriest replied to LidstromIsASuperhero's topic in General
It is odd having to place a player of Hossa's caliber on the second line, but that's where I'd put him. I don't want to break up the top line. That said, I can see Hossa playing with Z & Dats late in the game if we're behind. Additionally, I can see a forward being dealt prior to the start of the regular season to make signing Filppula easier while maintaining some cap room for the deadline. Either that, or Helm will have to play in GR this year. We all know that a defenseman will be traded for picks. (My guess: Quincey) My regular lineup: Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Holmstrom Hossa, Filppula, Franzen Hudler, Kopecky, Cleary Maltby, Draper, Samuelsson Reserve: McCarty Lidstrom, Rafalski Kronwall, Stuart Lebda, Lilja Meech, Chelios Okay, it's late in the game and we're down by one: Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Hossa (wow) Hudler, Filppula, Franzen Cleary, Kopecky, Holmstrom Maltby, Draper, McCarty Reserve: Samuelsson Split the top line? Trade Sammy & keep Helm? Okay. Filppula, Datsyuk, Holmstrom Franzen, Zetterberg, Hossa Hudler, Helm, Cleary Maltby, Draper, McCarty Reserve: Kopecky So many options. I love it! -
According to the Pens board, there are four teams with offers for Hossa, and they're stating that Hossa prefers Detroit, but that Detroit is offering the least $$$$. I can't really see this happening, but I'd laugh hysterically if it did. People on the Pens board are fuming at the thought of Hossa coming here for less money. They're losing everyone off of their roster as it is........
-
No. Hossa to Edmonton is an Eklund rumor.
-
I can't take Eklund seriously at all. Is he ever right?
-
Folks, I don't think we'll see much of anything from Kenny this offseason. We're already stocked and may have one or two positions to fill, tops. Kenny has already stated that: 1. A contract will be offered to McCarty 2. We're likely going to carry eight defensemen (Chelios is working on a 1 year deal....Lilja is working on a deal, Stuart must be re-signed.) 3. They'll review whether Howard can man the backup slot behind Ozzie. 4. Hudler deserves more ice time based on his playoff performance. (Or was it Babs who said that?) Stuart is the first priority, obviously. If he doesn't re-sign, look for Holland to go after a Hedican or Carney.....though I'd like to see him go after Orpik in that situation, but his price may be significantly higher due to his performance in the Finals. Even if Stuart doesn't re-sign, and no UFA fills that spot, we can fill in with GR kids until the deadline. They've shown that they're capable. (Quincey, Meech, Ericsson) On the forward lines.....I see no changes whatsoever, with the exception of Drake's retirement. I wouldn't mind seeing Rolston come to Detroit....or Sundin....but Hossa's out of the question. He won't want to take a short term contract, and we've got a lot of pay raises in the next two years. The only way that we sign someone long term (Rolston) is if we'd trade a current roster player....which we would've likely done prior to the draft. In goal....I'm betting that Howard get's the full-time backup duties. The kid's been in GR long enough. It's time to put up or shut up. Here's what I see happening: Drake retires McCarty gets a two year deal. Chelios signs for one more year Lilja signs for two....maybe three. Stuart resigns for 3 years at 3M/year Here's our lineup in the fall: Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Holmstrom Hudler, Filppula, Franzen Maltby, Draper, Cleary McCarty, Kopecky, Samuelsson Helm Lidstrom, Rafalski Kronwall, Stuart Lebda, Lilja Chelios, Quincey Osgood Howard Thoughts?
