Here's my crappy analysis of who the Wings should get...

My perspective of who I would like the Red Wings to acquire, in order of who I think would fit best follows this. I'm only going to do a top five, because it's unlikely we'll get more than one player anyway. So, here it goes:

1. Bill Guerin - What part of him DON'T the Wings need? He's grittier than anyone on the team, and is a very good goal scoring winger. This would be a perfect fit for Lang, as he obviously has no one to work with right now with Cleary and WIlliams on his line. The only drawback here is that there are many teams that would like to have him, and the asking price is going to be high, as he's now easily the best player on the market, and his contract is very cheap. Another major positive of him is that he's extremely fast, which is something to note.

2. Todd Bertuzzi - This is interesting. Will Bertuzzi still be the ass that he's been known for his entire career? Or will his injury/memories of Moore cause him to lighten up? Hopefully he'd still be extremely physical, and would still have a scoring touch. The thing about Bertuzzi is that he'd come extremely cheap, and, as we all know, we, along with Anaheim, are the two teams in the running for him. Since he's been out most of the season, it'd be a risk, but, one worth taking in my opinion. The guy can win you a playoff series without getting a single point, because he can singlehandedly take people out of the series, and will also protect everyone on the team for sure. I think he demonstrated that while protecting Naslund... anyway, he'd be another good wing for the Lang line.

3. Keith Tkachuk - I know, everyone thinks he's fat, but he's still a very productive player. He can't score as much as Guerin, but he still has a nice amount of points, and is more of an ass than Guerin is. He'd be more expensive than Bertuzzi, but less than Guerin, so I'm not sure how to take that. The main drawback of Tkachuk is that he has a wonderful tendency to take dumb penalties late in games, but oh well. He still fits some needs for the Wings, and, once again, would fit well with Lang.

4. Martin Lapointe - I know many people don't want him back because of his contract, but he could work very well on the fourth line, and always works hard, fighting in the corners and such. I've always liked him, so maybe I'm a bit biased for putting him this high. He's also another guy that will protect our star players.

5. Ryan Smyth - To be honest, I couldn't think of anyone else to put here, because Roberts said he would only waive his no-trade clause for Ottawa and Toronto. Therefore, I choose to put Smyth here. It's highly unlikely that he won't be traded, but apparently they're having major issues with the contract talks, so you never know. Obviously, if we somehow got him, he's a fantastic goal scorer, and is a good leader. Everyone already knows this. Again, though, there's a 99% chance he won't be traded, which sucks.

This has all been stated before, but I thought I'd organize it. I really hope we get either Bertuzzi or Guerin, because after that, there's a major dropoff to Tkachuk.
