Someone with an expiring contract like a rental or trying to get someone who may want to stick around a bit? Depends on who the player is and what kind of contract we're talking about. IMO Glen Murray's contract will keep him from going anywhere, regardless of how badly Boston wants to rid themselves.

Someone with an expiring contract like a rental or trying to get someone who may want to stick around a bit? As per a Lapointe/Nolan-style player? Easy--the one with the expiring contract. We can get somebody better over the summer. Also, if you're talking Lapointe, we'd be stuck with his $2.4m salary. If you're looking at better players, then I'd perhaps look for a contracted player.
