stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 Breaking up Z and Dats gives us more depth, and with the return of Holmer, of COURSE he goes to the top 2 line pairings... but with the way the Flip-Dats-Cleary line was playing, why split them up?! Furthermore, I think Holmer and Z have more chemistry than Dats and Holmer (not that Dats and Holmer don't, I just think it's stronger that way) On any note, as long as we continue to win, don't fix what isn't broken - Filppula - Datsyuk - Cleary Hudler - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Maltby - Draper - Samuelsson Kopecky - Franzen - Drake and like the good ol days - roll all 4 lines, with everyone getting at, or close to at least 10 mins We have the depth and talent to make it work, of course Z and Dats lines' are gonna get more minutes, but we can also rest them a little and get more out of them

The only thing I did differently was switch Sammy and Drake, I don't think Sammy is a defensively responsible as Drake is. But the rolling 4 lines, and Z and Homer, I couldn't agree more if I tried!!!!! I think with these combos every line could log at least 10-15 mins a game, and as the team comes down the stretch and into the playoffs rolling four lines is going to be key! Flip-Dats-Cleary Hudler-Z-Homer Franzen-Draper-Maltby Downey-Drake-Kopecky You all know you'd enjoy watching those lines tear up the western. Ah s***, I left Sammy out accidently... or did I? *x-files music* oh, don't get me wrong I LOVE watching Downey play, but we know Babs isn't gonna supplant any of those guys for him - He's a replacement player, behind Ellis... Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 Yep I agree Filppula - Datsyuk - Cleary Hudler - Zetterberg - Holmstrom Maltby - Draper - Samuelsson Kopecky - Franzen - Drake is best line comination atm, although I'd like to see ZDH line out there more often. No, Sammy isn't as defensively responsible as Drake... which is why you put him with 2 of the most defensively responsible forwards in the NHL - Draper and Maltby - Plus, this line is going to get more minutes than the 4th, and as much as everyone likes to knock on Sammy, he does have more offensive punch than a few of the other guys on the roster and he IS going to get more minutes per Babs... roll the lines each at least 10 minutes, but Z and Dats lines getting 2 shifts to the other lines 1.5 shifts, getting Z and Dats line each at least 18 mins, Drapes line around 15 and Franzen's around 9-10 - obviously, these numbers get skewed depending on special teams as well... but roughly this equation

Opie 308 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 Doing it this way if DZH is broken up and the wings are losing in the 3rd, Babs knows he can go back to it and get a good chance of getting a goal or two to pullout a victory!

stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 There's no way in hell Babcock has Hudler and Holmstrom on the same line. and why's that?
Heaton 1 Report post Posted January 9, 2008 and why's that? I won't go as far as calling either of them a defensive liability, but defense is not Hudler or Holmstrom's strong point and while Zetterberg (or Datsyuk) can make up for a lot, I, nor Babcock it seems is comfortable having those 2 on the ice together for a great deal of time with the way this team plays. The way it's set up now, we have almost perfect balance.
