daniel1 32 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Honestly, I don't think Prospal would have the impact we're hoping for; especially considering what we would have to give up to get him. Rather than give up quite a bit for a non-impact player, let's give up a lot for game breaker that will be a difference maker. I don't think Sundin is an option here as I'm not so sure he wouldn't shoot on OUR net just to keep us from winning the Cup after we trade for him, besides we all know he's either retiring or heading back to "Trona" anyways so he's just a pure rental. Rather than a rental player I would like to see someone who's signed for a reasonable amount for at least a couple more years and has a reasonable chance of resigning here at the end of the deal too. Where does this "chimera" exist you ask? He of the reasonable contract + years left on his deal + game-breaking skill + mutual desire by he and his team to be moved? The answer my friends is blowing in the wind... er, in this case the windy sunshine state of Florida; Oli Jokinen! What would it take to get this large determined Finnish-forty-goal-scorer who still has several good years left in him over here? Hudler + Kindl or Pyett, and a 1st round pick I think would do the trick. I would even throw in a Meech or Lebda if it would make the deal happen. He's a 5mil/yr player who plays like a 7mil/yr player and he's signed through 2009/2010. When you have a team in their prime with as good a chance as the Wings do to win the Cup this year, you go for it. Or would you rather wait a couple years for the younger guys to develop and then try to win the cup without Lidstrom and Hasek? The only two prospects I would not give up for Oli would be Filpulla and Ericcson, anyone else on the team not nicknamed Z, Pav, Lids or Homer would be fair game in a trade for Oli. I would love to roll a second scoring line in the playoffs of Filpulla, Jokinen and Cleary.

But Florida is on the rise and while in Tampa, there is no positives in near future. If Tampa does turn around down the road, I don't think it necessarily includes Prospal who is 33 years old now. They might want to get some prospect/pick for him because of it.

They will make damn sure they get fair value for Jokinen.
