Thrashers lose Bogosian to broken leg

Thursday, 10.30.2008 / 5:40 PM / News

Associated Press

NEW YORK - Atlanta Thrashers defenseman Zach Bogosian, the No. 3 overall pick in this year's draft, will be out indefinitely with a broken left leg.

A spokesman for the team said Thursday the injury won't require surgery. The Thrashers did not immediately announce plans to replace Bogosian before their game against the New York Rangers.

Bogosian was injured when he was slammed into the boards by Philadelphia's Darroll Powe in the Flyers' 7-0 win in Atlanta on Tuesday night. He did not return to the game.

Did anyone else see the incident? The game in question was televised live into Australia (on HD no less...) and the incident looked like nothing major at all. I can't believe he suffered a broken leg from something that looked so innocuous.

And FWIW, the Thrashers hardly need this, they were an absolute mess as it was.

Reminds me of that freak injury that Kronwall had a couple seasons ago. Didn't look like anything happened on the play and suddenly, he's out for months.
