Looking for Material For Cup Replica

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

My friend and I are building a cup replica. We're welding an empty 55gal drum to an empty 15gal drum, painting it chrome and etching it. We're looking for some kind of cheap bowl to use as the original Lord Stanley's Cup to sit on top. Can you guys post here if you see anything out there? We're just trying to get this done by the time the finals start. The bowl doesn't have to be silver, cheaper the better, and at least 20" diameter. If everyone can keep their eyes open I'd appreciate it!

mine is a 5 gallon bucket, coffee can, smaller coffee can, and a bowl.

We're looking for something to fill the bed of a dakota.

Also, I failed to mention that if you're able to help, you're name, in addition to everyone that helped build or watched at least SCF game with us, will have their name engraved.

just an idea G_27820G_SW_1.jpg

Excellent idea! In pictures, the "cup" looks to be just slightly smaller than the largest part of the base. I'll have to measure some out as I'm looking for something around 20" in diameter. The "cup" will be attatched to a drum that's 15" in diameter attached to a drum that's 23".

I recommend you find someone who does woodworking and ask them to turn something suitable on a lathe. Turning wooden bowls on a lathe isn't easy to do if you haven't got the experience, but lots of woodworkers do it to make salad bowls and that kind of stuff.

The other alternative would be to just go out and look for a wooden salad bowl- they tend to be big ass affairs.

sorry, i missed the part where you said it needed to be 20" or more in diameter.

the two suggestions i made won't fit that criteria but i still stand by the SALAD BOWL concept.

most people i know that have made replicas went that route and its worked well.

in any event, good luck and post pics when its done.
