WpgMikos 17 Report post Posted October 22, 2009 Anthony SanFilippo is the media member assigned the three star selection for tonight's Bruins/Flyers game and he wanted to try something a little bit different; I figured, why should I be the lone guy with an opinion on the game's three best players? Why not get some input from the people who are watching the game intently - you the fans. So, I've devised an opportunity tonight for Flyers' fans to do something historic - for the first time in NHL history, I will offer the fans the opportunity to pick the stars. That's right, you get to help me make the selections. To help vote, click here. Kinda cool if this is the first time it's been done in the NHL. Would be neat to see them try this at the Joe. On the Beat: Fans get to pick 3 stars for first time in NHL history, Wings pack up for a long road trip, fight between Scott Gomez and Sergei Kostitsyn during preseason contributed to demotion to AHL, more economic chaos in the KHL, Rick Tocchet issues a warning to his players, Who is going to step up for Pens and replace Gonchar? stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted October 22, 2009 FSN Detroit has basically been letting the fans vote for the #1 star of the game via text for over a year... but the official 3 stars announced at the end of the game is a cool change...

And the FSN Detroit system shows exactly why the fans don't select the the 3 Stars officially. Fans are always going to pick favorites instead of being objective. Thats why every night the text voting reads something like this: Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Osgood, even if all of them have an off night, what the lower tier players need to do to get votes is staggering But maybe I'm just being pessimistic, and maybe this guy will only accept votes after the midpoint of the third instead of pregame and maybe the fans will be uncharacteristically objective. WpgMikos 17 Report post Posted October 22, 2009 Was just doing some further reading on the subject and the winner on the 6 Canadian teams wins the Molson Cup. The winner on the Thrashers receives the Heineken Cup and on the Flyers the winner receives the Toyota Cup. What does the Wings winner get? Please tell me it's the Little Caesars Cup. Probably the Pontiac Aztek Cup.
