Long time fan needs help

I just don't understand how they determine the standings. Why is Phoenix in 4th place with 106 points while Vancouver is in 3rd with 101? And why do that say that even if the Wings end up with 101, they might still be in 6th even though Nashville has 100. I know about tiebreakers, but if they're not tied, what's up? Please explain someone? Please!!!

The top three seeds in each conference go to the 3 division winners in each conference. Although Phoenix has more points than Vancouver, Phoenix is second in their division (the Pacific, to SJ), therefore, they get the four seed because that's the next best seed for them to get. Vancouver gets rewarded for winning their division (the Northeast) even though they have less points (and almost less than the Wings and N'ville). Hope this explains the seeding in that regard.

As far as the Wings ending up in 6th with 101 points and N'ville with 100?? I haven't heard that and it makes no sense whatsoever so it can't be true. Whoever finishes with the most points, outside of the top three seeds, gets the next best seedings 4-8 --- simple as that. If teams are tied it comes down to wins.

Thanks all! Like I said, I'm a long time fan, but apparently a dumb one when it comes to these standings. I get it now, and I suspected that it was the division leader thing, but wanted to be sure. Thanks again! ON TO PHOENIX!!!
