Cleary a lock at 20 goals with Modano?

Cleary was recently asked what he thought of Modano's upcoming signing and what his goals were, a short read found here.

Clearly's thoughts on Modano.

It seems like he should be a lock for 20 goals playing with Modano on the third line... with 15 goals in 64 games, could 30 goals be obtainable? What effects will Modano have on Cleary who already plays a solid two way game.

I think he should for sure hit the 20 mark. Adding Modano and Hudler (who also has playmaking skill) to the line is really going to be a boost. Couple that with all the hard work Dano has put in this summer and I expect big things out of him. I think it's awesome that our top 3 lines are all going to mirror each other.

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

Franzen-Filppula-Bertuzzi

Hudler-Modano-Cleary

Each has a sniper, playmaker and net presence. Looks really good on paper. I'm pretty pumped about this season.

While I have no doubt our third line will be more effective then last years, one must remember that he will most probably get far less powerplay time, and ice time in general. His production per minute may go up, but I think it's unfair to expect a dramatic increase in points.

I see a lot of people putting the 2nd line as Bertuzzi-Filppula-Franzen, but I would at least like Babcock to experiment with switching Bert and Huds for a bit. I think Hudler-Filppula-Franzen would be as dynamic as most first lines in the league.

I like both of these sentiments. I think Hudler should be on the second line, and he would be if you went by salary-expectations. I feel like Bert doesn't fit anywhere as well as someone else does, and the third line makes the most sense next to Modano, but it doesn't seem like that is Babcock's first choice.

Bertuzzi and Cleary

... I just think that Modano and Cleary would have to spend alot of their energy and defensive skills to compensate for Berts turnovers and slow speed. It could end up being a huge line though if all three really crashed the net, and boy oh boy can they!

This is what makes me excited too, it seems like we have a good mix of players that are interchangeable. Must be nice to have the option to shake someone like Cleary out of a funk by flipping him with Bertuzzi, or helping out the defense of the second line by rotating Zetter with Filppula. There are many options and you can bet that all the numbers, offensively and defensively, will improve. I find the fourth line to be the most interesting story now. I am just excited to see us as ever.

For 2.8 million he better be!

I don't think its fair to say hes under performing just because of his production. His produciton has declined not so much from playing poorly but moreso a myriad of unrelated injuries and being placed lower in the depth chart.
