#1982407 San Jose Game 2 Diving Compilation

Posted by Grypho on 09 May 2010 - 08:32 PM

I don't mind taking them on, what the hell.

1) Embellishment by Nabokov, but a dive? I don't think so. I don't like diving or embellishment, but I am also of the opinion that no player on any team has an obligation to make any effort whatsoever to recover in a way that says, 'don't worry about it, no harm, no foul'.

2) From that angle it looks like a definite dive by Nichols. No argument there.

3) The Vlasic fall was neither a dive nor an embellishment. Vlasic just lost his edge, and it was a bad call, a stupid call, and nothing more.

4) Give that one a big giant motherf***ing break. A stick all the way up through the legs, followed by a sharp pulling HOOKING motion directly to the wrists, followed by another sharp HOOK to the left leg? You have to be one myopic, or even blind, homer not to see that that one was a solid, SOLID call, a penalty that deserved a call, and wasn't even SLIGHTLY questionable. I can't believe that was even included in this compilation.

5) Likewise, the trip by Filppula at 1:52 was a stick straight to the edge of the skates. No embellishment (nor was any necessary), and certainly no dive. Total penalty, absolutely solid call.

6) Datsyuk cross checked Setoguchi into the goal post. Total penalty, one I would have called, and not too iffy in my mind. For embellishment, I'd be looking for a delayed response of some kind, or a reaction that was obviously overly dramatic. That's what many Wings fans saw, but I didn't. It wasn't like the Nichols dive, where he arched his back and collided with the post, but you couldn't even see a cross checking motion from the player behind. In this one you can CLEARLY see Datsyuk ramming the back of his stick into Setoguchi from behind, and with looked, to me at least, like considerable speed (read = f=ma = force). If that's one of the "well, your players need to learn to skate such that they can't be knocked down so easily and make us look bad", I would disagree. Total cross check, legitimate call. If, as was argued, the Sharks were getting away with the same thing, then THAT should be included in the compilation for contrast, and then you'd have a valid, albeit different, point of contention.

Pick any game from any series and I can put together a much better 2-minute clip of Wings diving and crying like babies. Not because the Wings are crooked or babies but because I am good at editing clips together.

I'm sorry that you feel like the series was stolen from you buy the refs, but I disagree. Your evidence doesn't dissuade me, and it is entirely one-sided.

I could put up points playing with Hossa. Kope is a decent player, but I doubt he be as successful playing with less skilled players.

#1939318 Top 20 Plays with Datsyuk & Zetterberg

When we saw Pav and Z play together this year they really didn't look all that great. With Babs hell bent on keeping them apart, I've been wondering about whether or not they'll ever be able to recreate the magic.

YT has 'Top Plays with Lecavalier and St. Louis' and I thought, "Why don't they have one of these for Datsyuk and Zetterberg?"

So to the best of my ability and access to footage as a fan, I made one myself. Even though the NHL doesn't have footage stored from 02-03 or 03-04, I feel as if I remember those years fairly well enough that I'm not missing a goal when it comes to pretty plays between the two. The blog is acting a little weird so I have to paste each link one by one:

* Number Twenty
* Number Nineteen
* Number Eighteen
* Number Seventeen
* Number Sixteen
* Number Fifteen
* Number Fourteen
* Number Thirteen
* Number Twelve
* Number Eleven
* Number Ten
* Number Nine
* Number Eight
* Number Seven
* Number Six
* Number Five
* Number Four
* Number Three
* Number Two
* Number One

Hope you all enjoy it! :)

A goal and 2 asst by a murderer who should be in jail, or dead. Lets see, get drunk, kill my buddy, make millions of dollars and play for the Holy Grail. Wings owned this game until refs fell for the two DIVES. Can the Wings EVER get a fair game called for them? f*** refs, f*** SHarks, f*** Heatly the murderer...

Can you drop the stupid murderer BS already?

He pleaded guilty and would have gone to jail. Snyder's father asked that he not get jail time. Also he had been drinking but was not intoxicated.

And what does this have to do with hockey?

I know this might be a little late since Game 1 versus the Sharks is tomorrow but the guy finally put up some highlights that are better than the ones I posted before:

#1960993 Officiating - A Completely Different Perspective

Posted by stevkrause on 27 April 2010 - 09:50 AM

Okay, I may be in the minority here, but I decided to have a quick look at the number of a powerplays each team has had so far in the playoffs (after reading about Washington going 1 for 30 so far). Here are the results:

DET - 28
PHX - 28

VAN - 24
LAK - 26

COL - 15
SJS - 26

CHI - 23
NSH - 27

WSH - 30
MON - 27

PIT - 28
OTT - 22

NJD - 32
PHI - 29

BOS - 22
BUF - 19

Funny all the series have had relatively the same number of penalties called (24-30 range). The NJD-PHI is a bit out of wack as they only played 5 games, but that's not entirely surprising as PHI is a bit of chippy team. So, my concern is as follows: If you look at each series, the powerplay opportunities for each team are very, very similar, with the exception of SJS-COL, not sure why that is so out of wack, but I suspect it is probably from a particular game or something and not even across the entire series (could be though).

You may be asking....so what, looks relatively even for all the teams...what's the beef? Well, I look at it like this: do we really think each team is committing the same number of infractions? I guess on average is should make some sense, but I think it is too even. There is no conspiracy here or anything, I'm just not a fan of the way the officials operate and have been operating for years, and it goes like this:

- Team A has taken 3 penalties in a row....you know there is no way they are getting the next penalty and the slightest thing Team B does will result in a call (even up). My philosphy: I don't care if one team gets 15 penalties in a row, if they are deserved, they should be called. A game can result in 15 powerplays for one team and 2 for the other, doesn't mean the reffing was bad, but more often than not, the number of PP for each team will tend to even up.

I could not agree more!

This has been one of my biggest problems with the league for a long time... it's just one of the many inconsistencies that make it a fringe sport and not a powerhouse... new fans can't follow it, because they'll be like "wait, I thought that was a penalty" or "wait, I thought that was ok" and you have to respond, dejected... "yes... it's the mickey mouse way the league is run..." and instantly it loses credibility...

Stopping in to wish you guys luck. Phoenix has a tough squad but I think the Wings should be able to take them out. Hopefully our teams can meet somewhere down the line. Enjoy the playoffs, there's nothing like it.

Chicago weak defensively? They are currently 4th in GAA, only New jersey, Boston, Phoenix have tighter team defense.

I assure you, either team in a Hawks/Wings series will give the other a run for their money, whoever wins.

Just so you know you're allowed to root for the Wings to win, whoever they play, not just root for them to get the best possible matchup because they suck too bad to beat the good teams.

The Wings are one of the good teams.

It's nice to see a little bit of emotion once in a while. He doesn't go over the top like Ovechkin does, and I like that. When he scored the goal against Nashville, he was as happy as the crowd was and it was nice to see. I hope he keeps it up. And the 6 goals to 200, and 13 assists to 400 - boy, would I love to see him get those two goals accomplished...600 career points. Pretty awesome for #171 in the draft, but #1 in our hearts.
