Doc Emrick's call of Kesler's game ender

22 February 2010 - 06:13 PM

From the guy who brought you, "Sounds of the Joe" or whatever I called it last year, here is Doc Emrick calling the game-ending empty net goal by Kesler. It gets me a little teary-eyed each time. I almost puked trying to record it, seeing as how I kept forgetting components upstairs and had to repeatedly sprint up and down them.

I had to shorten it a bit to keep it under the 500kb. If this is at all popular and anyone wants to host the slightly bigger version where that "Ole Ole" song is sung, let me know and I can upload it via FTP. It's under 700kb.

If it's not popular, then I wasted a lot of life on keyboard just now. Enjoy.

How to kill two days of anticipation...

10 June 2009 - 03:54 AM

Here in Chicago, it's going on 4am on Wednesday morning. The fact that I can actually call it WEDNESDAY rather than TUESDAY is tantalizing. The fact remains, however, that even as of now there are around 63.5 hours until puck is dropped for Game 7 on Friday.

As tension is raised, nerves are tested, and our patience is deteriorated, I'm already struggling to pass these hours and keep my mind off of the game. Sleep won't come easy for many of you, and boredom will overtake our lives.

A watched pot seldom boils. So now, as a group, I propose that we help each other kill these next 63 hours before the opening faceoff here in this thread.

All you've got to do is post internet links to websites that do an exceptional job at killing time. The links should not be to articles or photo galleries. How about some games or arts n' crafts bullcrap! Get interactive!

Go through your bookmarks and find the few websites that you would keep if Al Gore told you that you could only keep 5 websites. Porn doesn't count. I'll start you off.

Its now impossible to make bad music with The Tone Matrix
An oldy but a goody, The Falling Sand Game: Falling Sand
Or OMFG it's the Subservient Chicken!

Sounds of the Crowd - Game 5!

08 June 2009 - 03:13 PM

You're lucky I love all of you. I was able to extract sounds via super-secret methods today from Game 5. The sounds don't contain any sounds from NBC; only the game sounds.

So far I have Kiss - Rock n' Roll All Night, and Journey - Don't Stop Believin'. I had to edit them down quite a bit to make them fit the file size requirements. If anyone has a website they want to host these files on, drop me a PM.

You can thank me by rating me 5 stars in my profile. Or say thanks. Whatever. I'll have more for you soon.

Kiss is attached.

NHL.com Photo Bias

07 June 2009 - 11:49 PM

Even though we've outscored Pittsburgh 15-10 so far in this series, I dare you try to find a picture on NHL.com's "Stanley Cup Finals Featured Galleries" of the Wings celebrating after a goal. In fact, you won't even find a shot of the Wings in which it appears that a Red Wing is scoring. Yet in the same galleries, in all but Game 5 (for obvious the obvious reason that Pittsburgh was shut out), you will find a picture of Penguins in celebration of a goal, or in the act of scoring a goal.

Reading the captions may even be more discouraging than the pictures. More often than not the captions somehow show Pittsburgh being dominant, or the Wings struggling to be involved in the play.

Now go to the Game 4 (Det 2, Pitt 4) gallery, and what will you find? 3 pictures of either Pittsburgh in the act of scoring (the puck crossing the line) or in a celebration. There's 1 picture of Helm shooting the puck from God-Knows-Where. You wouldn't know it was a goal unless the caption beneath told you so.

Game 3 (Det 2, Pitt 4) shows Pittsburgh celebrating after a goal. Detroit is not to be seen scoring or celebrating at all.

Game 2 (Det 3, Pitt 1) shows Pittsburgh celebrating after their only goal. Detroit is not seen scoring or celebrating. Goalie save highlights are 3 for Fleury, 1 for Osgood.

Game 1 (Det 3, Pitt 1) shows Pittsburgh in the act of scoring their only goal. Detroit is not seen scoring or celebrating.

2 or 3 games worth of pictures, I'd call it coincidence. After 5 games I think it's clear to see who NHL.com's favorites are.

Michigan Drivers!

07 June 2009 - 10:29 PM

Now I know most of you will see that I'm from Chicago, and mention how we're all lunatic drivers down here. That's fine. But check this out: Where there is a 4 lane highway (2 lanes in each direction), there is absolutely NO reason that two cars should be side-by-side, both going 71mph in a 70mph zone.

Of course I am speaking of I-94 anywhere between 21 Mile Rd and Indiana! This happened so often, I cannot believe it. Is there a concept of the "fast lane" in Michigan? Why do people stay in the left (passing) lane for so long when they aren't passing?! It's ridiculous. I probably could've shaved a half-hour off of my drive home if more people drove with that common sense.
