    Calgary Flames watch

Hasta Lasagna Flames! send Sutter packing and send Iggy to a team that deserves him! looks like JayBo was a bust too. I wouldn't want to be in Calgary right now, that much passion/anger in the crowd for the remaining games... could be ugly.

If you can't beat them on the scoreboard...

i don't think its a large issue with it, but as a high school hockey coach, we do not allow it. the thought being that on ice fighting in our league is prohibited by a state issued 2 game suspension and our district athletic director let it be known he would tact on an additional 3 games. in my experience, alot of "fighting" in our league is "on ice locker boxing": they don't drop the gloves and bucket, but punch each other with the gloves and helmets on.... its pointless and embarrassing, especially if your gonna sit 5 games because of it. it accomplishes nothing. we feel as a coaching staff, locker boxing kind of reinforces that behavior on the ice. in addition, we don't want to take the risk of losing any players, our season is brief. we have strict rules on fighting on our team. 1. avoid fighting at all costs, the only time its acceptable is if your safety is on the line 2. you never start it 3. you always finish it 4. you drop the gloves and the helmet 5. when its over, its over. go to the locker room with that being said, in a league where the rules of fighting are more relaxed, im not against it. hell, when i played midget major, we had two kids that were not putting in the effort necessary and the coach brought them to center ice and asked us, "who wants to fight these kids". everyone raised their hands. he picked two kids out of the bunch, and told the kids, "to stay and play on this team, you have to fight them." fighting ensued, we went to state finals, with a whole new respect for those guys, and they had more respect for the team and game. say what you want about it, but fighting does have a place in the sport, and on the team.

Leino to Flyers for Tollefsen and a 5th Rounder

if you read the freep.com article, Kenny said that tollefesen will be placed on wiavers and sent down to Grand Rapids if no one claims him. Its all to clear $800,000.00 to allow Franzen to play tuesday. The best part is, they have to clearn around 1.1. million if/when Lilja comes back. 2 years ago, I would have taken lebda over lilja. now im not so sure. "sorry, i read the first and second page, didn't read the third... making my post super redundant"

    fan interview!

i think what the guy meant, was "im glad we have a goalie who can steal games". lets be honest, we haven't a had a game stealer in 2 decades. we've had very good, great goalies, but it seems like its been a long time since we've seen a 48 shots against win and a 50 shots against win. i am an ozzie fan. but more so i am a Wings fan. Jimmy's getting it done. he gets the starts. and when ozzie ******* and moans, i lose respect for him, so he may as well get the boooo's until he puts the frown upside down and wins a game.

    Lebda Scratched; Injury Updates

Lebda met some of my friends... lady friends in Royal Oak, and he keeps posting useless nonsense on their facebook. that is all. i guess its not really harassment, but i feel like maybe he should be on "defensive coverage" websites. tony

    Worst Hockey Game Experience

i was at the game on saturday, and i had amazing tickets. i didn't have as serious problem as you did, because it was the people behind me. the four people behind me, 3 guys and 1 woman, we almost unbearable. The one guy, all he did was bash the "new" style of hockey, and complained that the nhl needs to go back when "probert" ruled the earth. I understand that some people out there like the hitting and all the fighting, don't get me wrong, I LOVE fights and I LOVE the big hits. But what i love more is skill and the speed that these players play with. the woman, who i could have killed, did her own version of play-by-play, using all the players first names like she was trying to impress everyone that she knew them. the worst is every player was "my guy Darren" or "my guy Henrik". My buddy could see i was getting hot under the collar and was like, just be happy those seats are filled. The problem was i was doing my best to follow the play and drown her out with my own thoughts. Because im not a Jedi, it was difficult and I was finding myself saying in my head, "shut the f*&^ up" the whole game. i chalked the experience up to my own tolerance. (i'm not saying this to be true of anyone else) i guess the reason that I like to watch the games at home by myself is cause i may be a hockey snob, and i'm okay with that because if there is any other sport to be a snob with, this is the best. we fan's are a brotherhood, a highly opinionated brotherhood. Most have played the game, the love came with experience, the passion from blood, sweat and tears. we understand that hockey is a game of mistakes, and the team that usually commits the least and capitalizes on the most, wins the game. we look up ice during the break out, watch the play before it happens. we look behind the play in the nuetral zone, watching for potential cheap shots or breakaway threats. we watch the penalty clock expire and hope that we can get a breakaway out of the deal. when "s" hits the fan, we look to babcock for his reaction. we are hockey fans! and sometimes, i just need to wake up and enjoy the damn game!

    Misery loves company

my biggest beef? gary bettman, hands down. the guy who was fired from the NBA on some conspiracy is the NHL's top dog? this guy has done whatever he can to make this game like the NBA, especially when it comes to its marketable "stars" i.e. crosby. whenever the wings are in the playoffs, just watch the ref's. or last year, when he blames NBC for moving up the finals 5 days. or the consistent crosby propaganda. you want to shove a canadian player down my throat? how about iginla, thorton, anybody who is more mature and has class and has paid his g'damn dues! not some prepubescent, can't grow a stache, whiney, diving sommmmama ***** named Sidney.

Patrice Cormier with shocking hit on Mikael Tam

This isn't the 70's or 80's anymore. There is no room for this behavior in hockey in today's game. You want to do that s***? put on foam gloves and go in the octagon. I don't know how many people have to be seriously injured and have careers threatened or cut short before the "don cherry" brand of hockey is forgotten. don't get me wrong, I LOVE HITS, I LOVE BATTLES, I LOVE FIGHTS, I LOVE THE GRIT, but intentionally trying to injure someone or "send a message" is gutless. Keep that s*** in up north WAY up north, or leave it Chris Pronger and Scotty Neidermeyer, only when playing the Red Wings... because at least we know its coming and it won't be punished. jk Cormier should sit an extended period of time, and explained by league officials why. I hate it when leagues act like court rooms and you don't get explanation. This is a game after all, and its meant to be tuff, the kid just may need some guidance. The penalty should be stiff, but not lifetime.

    jack johnson available?

i wouldn't read too much into it. think of it this way. JJ vs Lombardi. JJ is from Michigan. JJ to Detroit (e4) citing talks are "imminent". meaning, there hasn't been talks yet, but eklund is "betting on it" his sources i swear to god are a magic 8 ball and fortune cookies.... maybe a Ouija board. jack johnson available?

at first when i read the link, i was like WOW, who the hell does this Lombardi guy think he is. but then i went to the source, and read the entire article. Lombardi justified his statements, and since I don't know Jack Johnson personally, all I can say is, you listen to your boss. You listen to the guy who has been made chief, in a business that you work, in the freaking NHL! I don't know how it went down, but when it comes to young "superstars" you probably have to show him tape, and be patient with the kid. Show him examples of what he did wrong, and what he did right. Hell, give him the tapes of our captian, good ol #5 and say... try to do what he does, then show him tape of Konstatinov and say try to do what he does. Mix in your own stuff, and there you go. but you can't just blast a kid in the media and expect him change his ways, which i don't think Lombardi did. growing pains, reminds me of when Bowman came to town and had to show Stevie the "light". holler back. Consistency is key for Ericsson

Ericsson will come along, this his first full season after all. He just needs to play, not to think about past or future mistakes. Take some tips from the vets and practice them, then it will eventually be apart of what he does. Lebda is our weakest link, and I would much rather see Kindl or Janik get some time here before playoffs, to make sure they are battle tested properly come playoffs (i never doubt that the Wings will make playoffs), because I think Lebda needs to go. I think it would be awesome if they traded Lebda for a pylon and two tickets to the Jersey boys.
  13. so in that case, if he goes to Edmonton or Toronto, they are automatically contenders? the only way i would agree with that is if you mean in the long run, not immediately. a lesser team getting Kovy, would bring better players in the long run, assuming they are still making proper moves to build a winning environment. Kovy doesn't equate to immediate success unless you have players around him, otherwise Atlanta would be perennial contenders. he will definitely make a bubble team a playoff team, and an already contender a problem for everyone else. on the topic, Detroit couldn't sign Kovy unless Holland has more than Black Aces up his sleeve, which he could. But i don't think the Wings want to commit that much money to another long term deal. Especially, with all the free agents coming up in the next few years. If Howard keeps playing the way he has been, and his contract is up soon, he will get a huge raise, and then Osgood will have to after next season, so then we have to bring up another tender or sign a free agent. Not to mention Helm, Holmer, Berts and Williams.
  14. i completely agree, he's the largest disappointment for me this season. I drafted Leino in the last round in fantasy gitty like a school boy bc i thought he was a steal... little did i know. the only way Leino stays in over Miller is if he goes on a tear in the last month of the season, and that aint gonna happen.

    Skating treadmill

Hey, i've been reading www.letsgowings.com for a few years now, and i do most of my viewing from work, which is why i haven't posted until now. I work at the ice rink in Troy, and the commercial you were talking about was for The Core, which is located inside our rink and owned by Kris Draper. Its a facility that specializes on building core strengths and other specialized training areas, which include all hockey strengths and other sports. I am a HS Hockey Coach and played AAA hockey and a little bit, small nuance of Juniors. I have worked out in the Core and used the skating treadmill for 2 years now, and let me say, its INTENSE, and well worth it. You'd be surprising how cheap the prices are. this is not solicitation, i believe in the Core, and I will be posting on the forum from now on! the website is: www.coresportsfitness.com take care, and i hope this information helps. till next time take care.
