#2307822 Parise and Suter - how much are they really worth?

Posted by Johnz96 on 18 June 2012 - 11:27 AM

I think Suter might be overrated a bit and will get slightly overpaid but he is a d-man and that tends to happen. I think parise is worth more and should be the Red Wings main focus. They never seem to have a sniper that can put the puck in the net consistantly. Not since the Hossa year imo.

Parise scored a goal every 56 mins of ice-time this year
Franzen scored a goal every 47 mins of ice-time this year

#2307721 Parise and Suter - how much are they really worth?

Posted by Yzerman191 on 17 June 2012 - 01:34 PM

Due to the desperation around the board to obtain Parise and Suter, really the only two high profile UFAs this year, I've seen figures all over the place on how high Holland should go. Realistically, what are they worth? When should Holland just walk away?

Ryan Suter has never finished top three (or even top five) in Norris voting. Maybe he's just underrated, but last year, for example, he finished 15th in Norris voting. The most points he's ever had in a season is just 46 - one might say he's similar in offensive capabilities to Kronwall or Wideman, both of whom are around ~$5M. He's also largely considered to be the second best defenseman on his own team (which isn't necessarily a knock on him). With that said, he's a big hitter, has a great shot, and is only 27 years old. If push comes to shove, what is he worth? Is he worth the $7M+ that is being thrown around? Is he worth more than Chara, Keith, or Weber?

Zach Parise is three seasons removed from scoring in the 40-goal/90-point range. He had 69 points last year in the regular season (his first after a huge knee injury), and just 15 points in 24 playoff games. His 31 goals are just 6 more than Hudler's 25, and 2 more than Franzen's (the LGW scapegoat) 29. Parise has a great work ethic, and is also known for his two-way game. However, one might argue (again) that he's not even the best forward on his own team, and his accomplishments to date don't rank him up with the league's elite. People have put huge price tags on his head - $7.5M-8M. Is he worth it? Crosby is rumored to be looking for $9M, Stamkos is locked up at $7.5M, Kovalchuk is locked up long term for $6.7M, etc. How high is too high? When does Ken Holland walk away, and think about pursuing Perry, Getzlaf, Iginla, etc. the following year?

What do you think?

Well, if Dom is looking for a challenge, I can think of little more challenging than backstopping the Leafs to a Stanley Cup victory.

Yuck! I don't want to see that. The cup doesn't belong in LA.

Posted by Doc Holliday on 13 June 2012 - 01:47 AM

Why don't you describe what is going on in the opening post instead of saying "Hey, here is a link, click it and take my word for what is on it"?

25 minute mark has talking about LA rioting (or lack therof) after their cup win. Nothing about Zach Parise.

27 minute mark talking about crowds and random crap. Head coach for LA going to stay? Who knows in this radio broadcast.

28 Phil Jackson talk. Radio host says "Let's leave Parise aside for the time being". So 3 minutes after you say we should start listening they discuss Parise only to say that they aren't going to talk about it yet? Jeez, man.

30 minutes in: Leopold says nobody is going to outbid the Wild. So if Parise is going anywhere, it is for less money. The guy just assumes that Parise isn't going to be here simply because the Wild's GM is going to throw as much money as he can at him. Implying Holland can't afford to do that as well.

Not bad news, just more of what we assumed would happen.

+1 for all the changes, I do like them!

BUT...

Whew! Helm at $2M? Abby at $1.5M? I am guessing that you are setting them high so that when they do re-sign for less it will be like a bonus?

Abby made less than $800,000 last season do you really think he has earned almost DOUBLE his money? And Helm? He made less than $915,000 has he really earned MORE THAN double his money? It took Holmstrom almost 10 years to top $2M in salary, neither or these guys have brought what Holmstrom has brought to this team. I am not knocking them, and yes Helm is very valuable to this team, but I am not seeing over 2x his salary...

More like: Helm $1.5M Abby $1.1M

Quincey at anything over $3M is too expensive for the Wings. We already have a #5/#6 making over $3M, we do not need another. Holland needs to qualify him at $3.125M and then allow him to seek a raise elsewhere and collect the picks for him. The 1st and 3rd round picks are more valuable to Holland than Quincey is... Let Quincey go, maybe he signs on with a bottom 3rd team and then Holland can trade away our own 1st and 3rd next year for something that is going to push this team back over the top and then have a very high 1st and 3rd to replace the ones he traded...business is business and this makes the most sense, especially when he overpaid a 1st round pick for him to begin with, he not only gets another 1st back next year, but another 3rd to boot! Quincey for picks all day...

edit:

Even going with your $8M for Parise and Suter, I think it will look more like this. Plus this roster also works if the Cap doesn't quite stay at $70.3M...

*enough for a nice deadline acquisition as well...(if the cap stays at $70.3M)

also, I'd personally like to add Shane Doan, but with the $8M each for the Big Two, it would be kind of pushing the Cap with Doan considering he may cost $5M...

#2305811 Alexander Radulov.

Posted by Jedi on 07 June 2012 - 12:51 PM

What is the story with Radulov? I see people call him P.O.S. and everything but I do not know his story. Im not defending him I just somehow missed the stuff he has done. Can someone tell me what is the reason so many people hate him?

He signed his deal with Ufa in the KHL while still under contract with the Nashville Predators. So he bolted for more money while still contractually obligated to Nashville.

Then, there's this...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXQ56Dp0iB0

And then there's his antics in the Phoenix series that caused his suspension...

I'd bet that Radulov's days in the NHL are done. I doubt that any team in the league would be willing to bring on his baggage. Especially when he can go back to his native Russia, get paid 3x more than he's really worth, and (likely) get his salary paid tax-free.

There isn't the faintest chance that Nashville offered Radulov $9m per year, so I don't know why any of you are still making reference to that rumor.

At least it's not Parise/Suter/Lines/Other Beaten to Death Offseason Topic.

Well if Nashville did indeed offer him $9M per year, guess they weren't too set on keeping Suter around....btw, if that indeed was an offer, what the hell is it going to take to sign Parise?

meh.

I was kind of hoping that Nashville would strap themselves to that loser, making it harder to re-sign Suter. But Poile's too smart for that.

#2305858 Would you do this deal?

Posted by LeftWinger on 07 June 2012 - 03:31 PM

No this hasn't been floated somewhere. Just one of my crazy ideas, based on rumored needs/wants for both clubs. Det sends Quincey and the rights to Hudler to Ott for Nick Foligno.

Now if any rumors are correct, and lord only knows if they are, Det is looking to get bigger, faster, younger, and tougher. Ott is rumored to be in love with Hudler and needs 1 more D. Quincey and Foligno are RFA's. Hudler is a UFA of course. It helps both teams. maybe a draft pick back to Det to balance it out a bit more.

For those that don't know Nick Foligno he is a 24 year old LW from NY. he is listed at 6-0/210 on 1 site and 6-1/215 on others. he is good for 15+ goals per year and about 90 PIM's on average. basicly he is a LW McCarty, minus the off the ice stuff. Would think he ends up in the 2.8 to 3.2 million range to sign long term. Thoughts?

Wha-Wha-What!?!?!

It has been posted here and on several NHL rumor sites over the past month. Do a quick google search and you can find it.
