I'll agree Ericsson has improved, but I don't think he is a top two D man!  He still turns the puck over too frequently, generally doesn't think the game all that well, and doesn't use his big body effectively in most situations.  And when you think about it, this is his sixth season playing with the big club!  I expect more from him for the salary he is paid and for the years of experience he has!  He has developed too slowly, and in my opinion, the Wings should look at trading him while they still might get something for him, rather than letting him walk as a free agent!

 

His first full season was 09/10 prior to that he played 8 games in 07/08 and 19 games in 08/09.  He was drafted 291st the last player drafted in '02 which was the year he switched from center position to defense.

I'd say he has done quite well.

And wow did we miss Danny D or what? 3 gimmie goals right in front of the crease. If Big Rig isn't out there we've got no one willing to knock people on their ass.

 

It's difficult to watch players stand in front of our goal unmolested. We have a bunch of sissy players.

 His cap hit is a bargain. when and if, he decides to play. However paying a player 5 million per year to play only when he feels like it is not a bargain in my opinion. He's scoring now but I still have no respect for him as a player because of his attitude.

If Holland gives Filpulla 5 million I swear to God I will not ever watch a Red Wings game again.

Agreed and I will do the same if they resign Cleary for anymore than league minimum. Actually I would prefer if Cleary never plays another game as a Wing.

LOL, SPEARED IN THE NUTS? Francine does't have any nuts. Neither incident looked that bad. But ofcourse Franny flops around on the ice like he is mortally injured.

That is why Parise has a $6 million dollar cap while Franzen as a $3.9 million dollar cap.  Some people love to crap all over Franzen, when in all actuality, he is getting paid right about the right amount for what he brings to the team.

Here we go with that f***in cap hit again, which is nothing but a bulls*** way to manipulate the salary cap. There is not one damn person on this site that believes Francine will be playing the last 3or4 years of his contract. He is already BORED. and while he is BORED the lazy f***** is making 5.25 MILLION f***in dollars to ***** foot around the ice looking for Datsyuk or Zetterburg to work their ass off to feed him pucks for easy goals. At least Parise plays like he has some personal pride in his game and gives a s*** about his teammates. He now plays more like a jackass than a mule.

Based on his salary, he is performing up to what he is paid.  Does he have deficiencies?  Every player does.  At the same time, if you are expecting the world from this guy at a sub $4 million dollar cap hit, you have been hitting the bong too often.  These things you are mentioning I would expect from Dats and Z, at over $6 million each, they should be backchecking and working their asses off.

I don't give a s*** what his CAP HIT is the lazy JACKASS (not mule) is being paid 5.25 MILLION DOLLARS and god damnit that means you need to WORK YOUR ASS OFF to earn it. People dump on Hudler and ***** that he can't score if he isn't playing with Dats or Zetterberg but how many effing goals do you think FRANCINE would score if he didn't have Z and Dats WORKING their asses off to get him the puck while he ***** foots around the ice trying not to muss his hair......

On paper, the Franzen, Datysuk, Bertuzzi line looks like a really formidable line;  Datsyuk with two big bodies that have great hands, great vision, can skate, can shoot, and are generally tough to play against.

While there was a lot of production from that line, it baffles me that there wasn't more.  I thought they'd have much higher numbers.
