If you don't want Sheahan out there, use Pav or Z instead against Brassard's line. Even if Glendening's line is typically strong defensively, it's still a bunch of 4th line plugs playing against an opponent's top line.

When your centers are Pav, Z and Sheahan, there is no excuse to match Glendening with the Nash line on home ice. That's just poor coaching.

Most excited I have been for a regular season game in a long time. Z coming back, the new acquisitions first game, playoffs just around the corner and first home game in over two weeks. Even Eddie O can't ruin this. (He most definitely still will.)

Zidlicky would get eaten alive with top pairing minutes against teams in the playoffs. He doesn't have the foot speed nor defensive ability to play in that role anymore. Third pairing and power-play specialist is the ideal spot for him. I can't see Marchenko leaping Smith on the depth chart either.

Those lines are sexy. Good luck matching up with that third line.

Without seeing them play together yet, I'm not a fan of Smith/Zidlicky together. Even sheltered, I think that has the potential to go south real quick from a defensive/turnover standpoint. Kronner - Smith DeKeyser - Q E - Zidlicky

Because people see 36-years-old and automatically jump to the "typical Holland" conclusion. Which obviously was true for awhile, but this team isn't a bunch of dudes approaching retirement anymore. Two things I love about the Cole move especially: he adds size/physicality and he skates well, which doesn't negate the Wings biggest strength at forward. If Cole was 36 and slow, I wouldn't be as thrilled. Holland had his best deadline/July 1st moment in years. He definitely deserves a ton of praise for making the Red Wings better for the playoffs, while not sacrificing any of their major pieces of the future.

I don't entirely disagree. I'm scared of the price for Phaneuf, but I would be very happy adding Zidlicky tomorrow.

Exactly. I hope this road trip and season overall really pushes Holland to make a big deal. Get that d-man and the Wings are just as much a contender as anyone.

YES! What a game. What a road trip. 4-1-1 and they very easily could have won them all. I would have been pleased with six points even going in, but this was exceptional against some really good hockey teams. Monster was great today. Pretty impressive win without Z, Quincey and Helm. Get back home now and try to secure home ice in the first round at least down the stretch.
