https://www.nhl.com/news/taylor-hall-traded-to-arizona-coyotes/c-312665656 Maybe I wasn't paying attention but I did not see that coming. Too bad the Wings are so bad. Would have been a great addition but he was looking for a contender

What do you think of the job he did? I said earlier not trading Green for something, even a 4th rounder, would be a failure. He got potentially more than I expected for Mrazek, and the Tatar deal is potentially a good haul depending on how they use the picks, but I have a hard time believing they couldn't have gotten a conditional pick for Green based on how many games he plays and how far the team goes in the playoffs, similar to the Mrazek deal. I get the feeling Holland wants to keep him around and was looking for an excuse not to trade him in case he decided he liked his new team better.

Flames get Mike Smith in exchange for the rights to Chad Johnson, prospect Brandon Hickey and 2018 conditional third round pick. I seen this on sportsnet.ca. Hickey was a third round pick. Interesting trade, Smith is 35, but might have a few good years left in him and I expect his numbers will improve on a better team.

Sabres get Nathan Beaulieu for a third round pick in this years draft. Seen this on sportsnet.ca. This is a steal for Buffalo, Nathan is a first round draft pick and his numbers have continued to improve in the NHL. This trade makes no sense to me from Montreal's perspective.

Devils get Mirco Mueller and a 2017 fifth round pick and the sharks get a 2017 2nd round pick and 2017 fourth round pick acquired from Nashville. Seen this also on sportsnet.ca. Mueller is a former first round draft pick, he's only played 54 games for the sharks and his offensive numbers are low in the NHL and the AHL. I expect he will get more minutes in Jersey, we will have to see if he improves.

https://www.nhl.com/news/oilers-trade-taylor-hall-to-devils-for-adam-larsson/c-281082608 The Edmonton Oilers traded left wing Taylor Hall to the New Jersey Devils for defenseman Adam Larsson on Wednesday. Hall, 24, had 65 points (26 goals, 39 assists) in 82 games this season. Taken by the Oilers with the first pick of the 2010 NHL Draft, Hall has 328 points (132 goals, 196 assists) in 381 games. He has scored at least 20 goals four times in six seasons. The Devils were No. 30 in the League at 2.22 goals per game this season, and their leader in goals and points, forward Kyle Palmieri, can become a restricted free agent Friday. Larsson, 23, had three goals and 15 assists in 82 games this season, and averaged an NHL-career best 22:30 of ice time per game. The right-shot defender was the No. 4 pick of the 2011 draft. He has 64 points (nine goals, 55 assists) in 274 games. The Oilers have one right-shot defender signed for next season, Mark Fayne. Adam Clendening and Eric Gryba, the other right-shot defensemen who finished 2015-16 with the Oilers, will become unrestricted free agents Friday.

The glory (Cup) years, character and signature play are history, leaving what appears to be a wandering identity with team management and players equally unsure. Every organization has a “formula for success”. Just a handful, however, can claim their system works – wins championships. The Wings were one of those teams. New more offense-oriented NHL (goals at measly 2.66/game), 3 on 3 OTs and rules package has the Wings searching for answers and a clear path to more consistency, competitiveness and wins. “You are what your record says you are.” Today, they are a .500 team and probably a bubble team to make the playoffs. But more unsettling and costly is the lack of effective attention to the back end. The Wings neither have a “stopper” on defense nor in goal. Last night’s game against the Caps is perfect example: Evgeny Kuznetsov skates by Zetterberg, Kronwall’s late to the party and Mrazek is not sure what to do. It was a 3 on 3 situation, but the scenario and outcome have been replicated during regulation in many games … and will continue to be repeated throughout this season. No one on the current roster has stepped up to the challenge. Grand Rapids’s D-core: Ouch! The 2016 UFAs roster is underwhelming on defense. Ken Holland and Jeff Blashill will have to leave their comfort zone and part with some of the young assets. I suggest the first place to look is Anaheim. What will it take to get Hampus Lindholm?

Pronger (contract) and Grossman to for Sam Gagner and conditional pick

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/philadelphia-flyers-trade-chris-pronger-nicklas-grossmann-to-coyotes-for-sam-gagner/ If there's one thing that will happen with each new CBA, it's new and interesting ways to get around the cap. I know we've already seen bad contracts traded for players that may never play in the league again... but now we're seeing players that aren't even in the league (permanent LITR) and are employed by the league! FFS are we reaching a new low?
