Thank you Jimmy Howard for a very undeserved point. Spectacular two saves to preserve something out of this disaster. -

That play on Kindl wasn't a penalty, but Franzen's stick lift was? Good to see the league's priorities are intact. -

Why would you want to break up the Wings best line and remove Sheahan? Helm generates nothing offensively either. I think Z is easily the only choice with Pavel out, even if you somehow believe Z deserves a demotion already. -

Howard is playing well, so the new target is Z tonight. Pav may want to play it safe and stay out to avoid being next. -

OK and that didn't really answer my question. Helm hasn't done anything in three games either. Who centers the top line? -

Without Pav or Weiss playing? Who is going to center the top line? Z is coming off major surgery. I think he has earned the chance to get better not even three games into the season. -

No doubt about that penalty. I have no idea how this game is tied besides thanks to Howard. -

Get even call because Julien was crying. That was just as much interference on Hamilton before the hold. -

Gus! The best third liner in hockey. -

Get Nyquist back on the top line. He's easily the Wings best player and he's playing with Helm and Nestrasil still. It's not like the Wings have this stellar top-six anyways with the luxury of slotting Nyquist lower. No Pav, apparently Weiss isn't allowed to play anymore and Alfie is gone. -

Probably true. Glendening still let his guy go though untouched. I really don't like Glendening constantly playing against opponents' top line. Babs keeps putting him out there tonight against Krejci -- that's a massive advantage to Boston. -

Nice coverage, Glendening. I know that is Babs' dude, but he is seriously way overhyped as a "shutdown" center. No reason he should be matched up with the Krejci line. -

Why is Nestrasil on the power play? I'm not really seeing a purpose at all of having Nestrasil, Glendening and Andersson all dressed while Weiss isn't and the Wings are struggling to score goals. I'm not sure trying to play 2-1 games with this defense is the best way to win. -

Glendening makes Helm look like Stamkos. -

Nyquist back on the third line. The Wings have five goals in two games and a period, but we definitely need Abby on the top line. -

No interference on Chara? Two nice stops by Jimmy still. -

It was a clear cut breakaway. Something is going to get exposed. You can't take away the entire net. That shift was a prime example of what Quincey and Kindl are capable of together and it isn't pretty. -
Kronwall falling is irrelevant. It wasn't a trip that needed to be called -- it was the textbook hook on Kronwall's hands before Kronwall even went down. The hook was completely separate and should have been called regardless of what followed.
-
How was it a back-breaking goal? It happened in the first period of a scoreless game. Back-breaking would imply the Wings couldn't recover from it, which they clearly did. And I would contend that wasn't even a goal that was Jimmy's fault anyways. Jimmy was good in the third period against Boston and it gets overlooked because he didn't blow the lead and people couldn't jump all over him for it.
-
Based on what, the "eye test"? .941 save percentage for Jimmy compared to .917 for Rask. Oh, and Jimmy's team won the game too. If you are really being truthful, it's 1-1.
-
Babs was pretty mild. He said something along the lines of "the refs don't try to make mistakes, but they did there." Also said the Wings at worst should have started overtime on a PP. Which is all true, even though it would be nice to just see him go off a rampage.
-
I don't disagree entirely. The Red Wings were controlling play, so it is frustrating to see the Ducks score twice and ultimately win in the third. It's not fair to pretend it never happens, though. Jimmy had a very good third period the other night against Boston and that was a one-goal game.
-
Mrazek is in Grand Rapids, so that's probably not very likely. Jimmy has been quite consistent throughout his career until his poor season a year ago. It's just short-term memory to state otherwise.
-
The first goal was bad. The second one was on Smith not getting the puck out and it ended up right on Kesler's stick. Perfect shot by Getzlaf on the GWG -- really the only thing you can maybe fault Howard for there was playing too deep in his net. I don't think Jimmy has been terrific by any means yet, but it has only been two games and he has shown the ability to be consistently good before in his career.
-
That's a textbook hook in the "new" NHL. Even if they are usually more reluctant to call penalties late in games, you have to make that call when it leads directly to a scoring chance and GWG. You could tell even by Rogaine's body language that he knew he got away with one. The Wings played well at least. Gotta be incredibly frustrating though to see your effort go for nothing because the refs can't do their jobs yet again.
