This league blows. The officiating is an ongoing disaster every single season. The Red Wings played so well and to lose a game because of that. All of the bulls*** they call on a nightly basis and that gets let go.

Quincey and Kindl cannot be out there this late in a tie game against the Getzlaf line. That's just asking to go down a goal.

Agreed. It's really noticeable in the first two games.

The Wings look so much quicker than at any point in recent history. They are obviously flawed still defensively, but the forwards are really a fun group to watch play with their speed and tenacity.

Ryan Kesler is such a tool. How was that not a penalty drilling Smith in the head?

Quincey does nothing at all offensively, but I can tolerate him if he doesn't turn the puck over and is somewhat dependable defensively. I still don't like the contract, but Quincey was fine last night. You shouldn't want a four million dollar player to be "unnoticeable", though that might be best-case scenario with Quincey. First half Quincey from last season won't cut it. Anything since that point is pretty acceptable.

Nice win! Great way to kick off the season. Franzen was terrific -- I have to give him credit because he was fully engaged. I love having Smith and DeKeyser together. They complement each other really well as a pairing. I held my breath every time Quincey and Kindl were out there, but it's worth the price to have Smith with DeKeyser instead. Hopefully Kindl is just holding Ouellet's spot anyways, though I didn't think Kindl was all that bad tonight. Jimmy was very strong in the third. People would have been all over his case (deserved or not) had the Bruins tied the game, so props to Jimmy for holding the lead.

Bulls***. That's a losing 2-1 and we have to keep everything close penalty. Why not call the retaliation on Bergeron like they did to Smith?

That's a really weak penalty. All three calls against the Wings so far have been pretty questionable. Not implying a conspiracy or anything -- just that I would rather let them play instead.

One mistake, but good period otherwise. I thought the Wings looked faster and controlled most of the play. The PP, however, never really got set up or put anything on net either opportunity.

Nyquist can't pull the piano or play "heavy". He only scored 28 goals and provides speed and play-making, so that makes him a natural fit for third line minutes with Helm and Nestrasil instead.

So, Weiss is just not playing but Glendening, Andersson and Nestrasil all are? Weiss may be a complete bust yet, but I still think he has more to offer than any of those three. Give him a chance at least.

I would definitely run out the same defense as last season since that worked so well.

I'm over trying to force Abby onto the top line after four years of trying now. He just doesn't have a skill set that translates to playing there. That's more on Babs than Abby though, as he would be an effective third or fourth liner. Not the end of the world, but doesn't seem logical to waste the Wings best forward a season ago on the third line.

Switch Gus with Abby and those forward lines look decent. I hate Z getting stuck with Franzen and Abby. Why is the Wings best player last season getting relegated to the third line?

The defense stinks as it is and you want to get rid of Ericsson? The most reliable player the Wings have defensively and best penalty killer. Quincey isn't going to get traded -- they could have just not signed him to that absurd contract if they didn't want him around. I'm all for upgrading the defense using the surplus of prospects if the right deal is there. Trading E though, at this time, would be a huge loss. Ericsson is a much better d-man than Quincey.
