3/6 GDT: Avs 3 at Red Wings 2 (OT) Sorry Nick.

So excited for the ceremony. What a privilege it was to watch Nick Lidstrom play his entire career in Detroit. We witnessed perfection, in the most subtle of fashions. Thanks for the memories #5! -
Trade Legwand to Detroit for Eaves, Jarnkrok + cond 3rd/2nd

Or he made a panic move and realizes he has to defend it somehow. -
I would just assume that the consensus would be that Stevie is generally the most beloved player for those of us that never witnessed Gordie. That being said, I do believe Nick was the most important and valuable player during the Wings run of success. Those names in the rafters, though. Quite a collection of franchise greats. I hope the Wings never get away from truly reserving the honor for the elite. Nick will fit right in.

6:30 Gonna be a bittersweet day. Still wish Nick was around, but more importantly he gets the ultimate honor that is so well-deserved. -

Zero to represent how many people like this trade. EDIT: On a serious note, Legwand is wearing the vacated #17 of Patrick Eaves. -

Horrendous. Kenny has outdone the Kyle Quincey debacle somehow. I said it in numerous threads leading up to the deadline, but for once kicking tires and standing pat would have been prudent. Realistically, the Red Wings were at best going to sneak into the playoffs once Z was declared out for the regular season. Then you throw in Pav being gone now, Weiss having a setback and Helm injured again. You just don't overcome those losses and even if you do, is this group a real contender anyways? Nothing against Legwand, but what happened to no rentals? If Holland was looking for 'hockey deals' and willing to overpay with prospects and picks, then he should have actually acquired an impact player like Kesler or Ehrhoff. Legwand is an upgrade over Andersson logging first line minutes, but what's the goal here? Either embrace trying to improve fully or stick with what you have and play the season out. I just don't understand what Holland's intended direction is for the organization since Nick retired. The Red Wings are stuck in transitional years. Being mediocre is the worst spot to be, especially when it appears your philosophy is to rely more on drafting well. Panic move and went against everything Holland preached leading up to the deadline. He has been absolutely atrocious since Nick left with personnel decisions. -
I don't think banking on health is wise, especially with Helm. Weiss had a setback, Pav isn't improving, Z already gone. That's more than enough to pursue an impact forward if Holland decides to buy.
-
Much? I think that's an overstatement for a soft, inconsistent winger and third pairing d-man. Wings need impact, not bodies.
-
Kenny hasn't made a worthwhile trade in six years since he acquired Stuart. I'm not banking on today changing the trend.

Injuries and blown leads. This game is the Red Wings season in a nutshell. This time they didn't even get the loser point. Second time in the past three games the kid line has been on the ice for a goal against in the final minute of the third period. Disappointing loss on the eve of what will probably be a deadline of tire kicking.
-
Andersson is a liability on anything but the PK.

Trade deadline fast approaching - who should we target?

Kick tires, say they will be active in free agency this summer, won't "overpay" for impact players. Go into next season hoping for health. The Holland cycle of making moves. -
Mule! Great pass by Gus. Let's get a point at least.
-
Rough night for E. Not really an ideal place to kick out the rebound by Jimmy, but it was a pretty hard shot from Jagr. Wings are getting manhandled this period. Need to start applying some pressure.
-
Helm was due no? Nice officiating to gift them consecutive PP's on awful calls.
-
Quincey is still awful. He just improved up lately from absolutely atrocious.
-
That's still a penalty. Or should have been.
-
Good lord. Trade for any d-man with a pulse immediately Kenny.
-
I've been on Mule's case before, but he pretty much has the entire season.
-
Franzen's shot is ridiculous. Love when he is assertive with the puck.
-
Must be a real annoying group of three.
-
Ugh Andersson on the top line. Granted, not many options with Z, Pav and Weiss all out. Would rather see Eaves on the 4th line. Bertuzzi is too slow to play a grinding role, or any role that requires hockey ability at this point.

I think, at most, the Wings may get a depth d-man by the deadline. The combination of asking prices, reluctance to give up prospects and the Wings likely more than a player away from contention all signal no major move will be made. At some point, Holland is going to have to move some of the abundance of prospects if the Red Wings are going to complete seriously with the Euro-Twins. There's almost too much youth lingering now. I believe (hope) the Red Wings will be more active this summer instead. -

What part of hockey is Kesler at all superior to Z?
