  1. No surprise really. Not my quote, stolen from CP. "Let's see what skills Krahn has in the battleaxe department." Just jokes of course. *braces for impact*
  2. I guess they have stopped new members from joining. They are more strict than LGW. After yesterdays game the troll situation was pretty bad, guess this is how they planned to slow it down. I am sure they will open up registration soon again. I think most of the trolls are wings fans, a couple of oilers fans thrown in there too. I can't say for sure, but that is the way it seems to be. To be fair there are reasonable Wings fans on the site too. Honestly this forum and Calgary Puck are pretty much the same just mirrored towards their respective teams. I mean you got idiots on this one saying Mclennan should get 30 games and idiots on Calgary Puck saying Mclennan should have hit him harder. Just got to know where to look for a real perspective.
  3. Thanks! Disagree? Maybe I can change your mind then? ...probably not. haha Calgary puck is a zoo right now too, I am trying to stay away this afternoon. We are getting lots of trolls too. Best way to deal with them is to not respond. Let the mods handle them. Vigilantly thread justice = a clogged up thread.
  4. I don't know how they missed it, but they did. The punch did happen what, like 5 seconds after the hit? Their attention must been drawn else where. There is no way a ref would let that go. If you are suggesting that the refs are favouring Calgary so much so as to the extent to allow this punch, you are not being fair in any way because the Flames didn't get away with things that were half as bad during the whole game.
  5. I agree he should have gotten a penalty. Just because I don't think he should have gotten a suspension doesn't mean I don't think he should have gotten a penalty. There is no way the ref's saw the punch. If they did he would have gotten a penalty for sure. I think if he had gotten a penalty no one here would be calling for a suspension. The non-call just makes it much worse for you guys.

    Wings fans acting like babies

Good post. I honestly think that the NBC broadcast has a lot to do with this hysteria. Pete McGuire (sp?) got way too excited. He acted as if Mclennan had chopped Franzen's head off. I thought he was way too hard on Calgary. Calgary was not playing a very good game, but Detroit weren't angles either. The slash to Kipper, Maltby trying to take off Nilson's head with an elbow, Mclennan getting sticked in the face (incidental) by Franzen all were missed by NBC. What Calgary did was worse than Detroit, don't get me wrong, but I don't think that they should get off looking like everything wasn't provoked on some level. Langkow should have gotten a penalty. The ref's missed it no doubt. But no suspension.
  7. Because every punch to the face gets a game suspension.
  8. Pretty much what I expected. I thought Mclennan would have gotten 3 games, but whatever. Langkow was pretty borderline and I knew nothing was going to come of it. Not a chance Iginla was going to get suspended. I think some of you Detroit fans are still riled up from the game last night. BlueMonk has his head screwed on straight. If the slash was harder and in the head then I could understand a more lengthy suspension. Watching the slash when the game happened it looked brutal. But after watching the replays it was totally unnecessary but it wasn't that hard. The fines were unexpected and are way excessive. I don't believe that Calgary was that out of control. I guess the league is telling Calgary to slow down on the circus style of play and get more control. I think for anyone who watched the NBC broadcast got more fuel thrown on their fire. Calgary was bad, yes. But Detroit wasn't innocent angels either.

Flames Regehr will miss Game Four

There would have some news about Phaneuf if was not playing or hurt. It is safe to say that he is playing tonight. He just got knocked a little loopy that's all. He'll have his sights set on number 11 for sure. Disappointing about Regher not coming back. But if we won without him in the line up before, we can do it again.

    Pre-GAME 4: (4/19) Red Wings @ Flames - 9:30 PM EDT

This game will be more intense than the last 3. I expect both teams to bring a better game than they did on Tuesday. Should be a close game. I think the possibility of over time is definitely there. What I expect out of the Flames. Iginla will be better than last game. Once we gets going he is unstoppable. Lidstrom is a great d-man but with any playoff series no one has been able to shut down Iginla. Regher not playing again is a huge blow, but Giordano playing a great last game, we should be able to stay afloat on the blue line. Langkow and Huselius need to step up their play, these guys should be getting a couple chances each a game. Phaneuf will come out with a vengeance, he'll have number 11 on the mind. I expect a better game out of Datysuk, I have a feeling Daper will keep up his level of play. Not sure what to think of Hasek. He played well the first two games, but didn't get a lot of shots. He got twice as many last game and didn't look his previous form. Bertuzzi will be, well, he'll be there. Not too much to say on him, I don't expect much. I am not really big on predicting scores and I am not sure what to think of this game yet. Everyone knows the implications if Detroit wins. They will have a strangle hold on the series and probably take it on Saturday. Flames win and the momentum shift will be monumental and Flames have an opportunity to jump ahead. I know a lot of the Detroit fans are worried, due to their recent past in the playoffs, but I don't think that the Detroit players are worried at all. The Flames know they are teetering on the edge here, so I think that motivation, plus the confidence from the win and the support of the fans (who will be even louder tonight) should make for a great game. Go Flames!

    Bertuzzi

I've been to a game where the booing definitely affected Bertuzzi. He made so many mistakes with the puck it was comical. But I agree that some players do feed off the negative attention. I just don't think in this case it will, but hey you never know I may be eating my words later. In my fellow fans defense the cockiness is going both ways. Not saying from you, but some Detroit fans full heartedly expected a sweep. But as stated in another thread, those fans probably haven't watched a Calgary home game.

    Bertuzzi

If Bert wasn't in the line up, the booing would probably have fallen on Chelios. I said before the series started that he would be a non-factor. Both with his offensive capabilities and his physical play. With that said I don't see why you guys would take him out of the lineup. He's gotten some serious rust on him, which I doubt he'll work off unless Detroit has a major run. Even then I have my doubts. I feel sorry Hudler that he is sitting for guy who isn't doing anything on the ice. But I think Bertuzzi is a better fill in. Realistically Bertuzzi can only get better (I still have doubts), so unless he starts costing your team games, only then would it make sense to make him watch from the press box.

    Saturday's Game Time

So the series will go to at least Game 5 in Detroit (hopefully it'll go longer, ha!) on Saturday. The game time is 3:00pm ET which is 1:00pm Calgary time. Link I think I can speak for most Canadians when I say that we like our hockey at night. I know there are lots of Canadians on this site (so you can let me know if I'm out to lunch), but what does everyone else think about this start time? Personally hockey seems like a night time activity for me, especially Saturday nights. (Hockey Night in Canada) I like hockey to be the thing I go do on a Saturday night. I've heard that the afternoon times are to appeal to more Americans who aren't as up on Hockey. But for playoffs? Weak. What are your thoughts on this? Yah? or Nay? Put me in the nay camp.

    Saturday's Game Time

I am not really complaining, just seeing what you guys think of afternoon games. With our time zone we never have to deal with late games, so that's a side of the deal that I've never really thought about it. I am sure it's quite the pain the in ass, especially if the game goes to OT. But on the flip side when a game starts in Detroit at 7, that's 5 here. Lots of people work till 5, like me, so unless I can take off early I miss the first period. I rather be up late watching the game. Goes both ways I guess.

    STAY POSITIVE

John Garret wants the shoot out in the playoffs. I think it's safe to say that his insight is pretty worthless.

    STAY POSITIVE

Some of you fans are jumping off the bandwagon pretty fast. Just because you thought Detroit was going to sweep (which was unlikely) doesn't mean you need keep your finger hovering around the panic button. Was I worried after the first two games? Yes. I am still worried about this series? You bet. If the win was a landslide victory then I could understand some of these feelings. It was a close game, so I don't think Detroit's confidence has gone down. I think the Flames will bring a better game on Thursday and I suspect Detroit will do the same. The games of this series should get closer and closer. Also for those blaming the refs, I suggest you take off your homer glasses. Pretty lame excuse if you ask me. Besides who wants to watch a penalty filled game anyways? Totally kills the flow of the game.

    Flames Vs. Detroit Game 3

I've been to the Saddledome hundreds of times and I've never heard that alarm before. But I know when there is an actual emergency a voice comes over the PA and tells everyone that something has happened but to remain in your seats. If that something gets out of control then the same voice says to evacuate. I mean you can't have the fire alarm go off in that building because someone walked through a fire exit.

    Flames Vs. Detroit Game 3

Another Flames fan perspective who was at the game. I know it's already been said, but the crowd was awesome, just crazy loud. After Detroit's goals was the only time the crowd quited down. We will be even more loud on Thursday, they seemed a little apprehensive at times because of the way the first two games went. But after a win at home, the hope is back. This should be a benefiting factor for the Flames. I thought the Flames did a good job with the 5 on 5 against Detroit. Key for the Flames is staying out of the penalty box. That four minute penalty got the Wings organized that period when they weren't on their game. About time Iginla started playing and Tanguay had a great game. Clearly had a great hit. Phanuef had to find his brain while they scored and looked a little loopy his next shift. Draper was quite the force out there, kudos to him. Bertuzzi didn't do a thing, except get booed by the crowd. When Warrener got hit by the puck it was terrifying. Reminded me of when Yzerman got hit in '04. A player writhing around like that is just gut wrenching to see. Good to see that he returned. Game 4: Detroit's confidence probably hasn't wained, in my opinion, that was a close game. They knew going into the Saddledome was going to be tough because the way the Flames play at home and the crowd factor. Detroit has no reason not to play like they did in game 1 and 2. With that said Calgary should have some new found confidence after winning to hopefully be able to throw Detroit of their game. I expect a better game from both teams on Thursday. Some of Calgary's players have been sleeping, they need to wake up. Bertuzzi should have worked some of the rust off last night, but I still don't believe he'll be much of factor. I'll believe it when I see it. I got better seats for Game 4, I think I sat in the stratosphere yesterday, so better seats coupled with lots of beer I'll be cheering for the boys in red (all red). Go Flames!

    What a hit by Cleary

Phaneuf on Datsyuk = clean Clearly on Phaneuf = clean I've seen enough replays of the first hit to know it's clean. I would have to see another angle of the Clearly hit to be convinced if he used his elbow. TSN's angles show the hit is fine. His elbow just looked like it was moving up from the follow through on his hit. Phanuef just got caught in a weird position with the puck and his head down. Scrambled his brains there for a second. Not charging either. He stopped taking strides well before he hit Phaneuf.

    Grapes says Dats has no......

Where is everyone getting this from? No really, I've never heard someone call him French Canadian (outside of a message board). A Canadian would never call someone from Nova Scotia a Frenchie. I don't know it would be like an American calling someone from Nevada a southern hill billy or something. He is okay. Earlier this year he was talking about the Flames scoring problem (we were in the top 5 of scoring in the NHL at the time) it was really disappointing to hear that, especially because he lives in Calgary.

    Phaneuf's cheap shot on Z

That's what all this fuss is about? I was expecting a lot worse. It was obviously a penalty, but it looked like Zetterberg was already on his way down. This rough stuff is fairly expected in playoff hockey.

    Tomorrow's Game

Lots of optimism here. To be expected of course. Remember it's best of seven not best of one. Flames have the ability to knock even the strongest team off of their game and Kiprusoff can steal games as well. I like to think of the Flames as a freight train. Slow to get going, but once they pick up momentum they are very hard to stop. But what I fear is that they get stopped before they can get moving.
