I wouldn't put too much stock into what Cherry says. Sometimes he is right on the money and other times he just needlessly rants. Blocking shots is one of those things that he is always dwelling on. Typically he comments on how some players are bad at blocking shot and put themselves in danger. Either standing up and putting their hands down near the ice, leaving their wrists exposed. Or players sliding on the ice and not looking the other way and exposing their face.

Exactly. It's not like he pulled a Hartnell or ran the goalie. Calgary does have a rough history with McGeough. But that can't be blamed for the loss. But your right it can be a source of frustration for the Flames.

Well Bertuzzi is not a good example for to you use, because I wouldn't be surprised at all because of the "hockey" that he plays. But I see what you are getting at. Players complaining never really irks me. Players running goalies or dishing out late hits, elbows etc is what constitutes a bad player in my books. Crosby complains a lot, and his temper gets the better of him more so than Iginla. I don't hear the same sentiment toward him that I am hearing about Iginla. But perhaps I should be looking at a Senators board for that.

Try being a new poster that is a flames fan. You guys would have to give up some prime real estate to steal their captain. Remember you're not trading with Edmonton here, they wouldn't give him away. But really this thread is definitely good for a laugh.

I sort of understand what some of you getting at, but I'm not sure what your expecting him to do? This playoff hockey. Your star player is not immune to getting hit. Questionable hits will happen, I'm sure they'll get sent Calgary's way in the next couple of games. But some of the responses here are coming across like this is the first game you have ever seen him play. Calling him a goon etc is pretty amateur.

His temper can change the whole dynamic of a game. I've seen him games where he gets rocked by hit from someone and next shift he will come out and be a force. A force that changes the whole flow of a game. Sure his temper can get the better of him, but for the most part it is a great motivation for the team.

Cheap shotting? I would say physical, but we'll agree to disagree. But crybaby? Come on now when has he ever shown to be like that? Iginla is a class act that is respected around the league by players, coaches and the media. Don't you see the irony calling someone a "cheap shotting crybaby" when your avatar is Bertuzzi?

Well on the other side of the argument it's not really fair if he takes off his helmet and the other player doesn't, he would be totally exposed. I've seen Iginla fight and take off his helmet before the fight a couple times. So don't give me that "always fights with his visor on." Not sure why you guys are hating him so much. If you want to talk taking runs and Hatcher. May I remind you back to 04 when Hatcher sideline Lombardi with his ridiculous cheap shot elbow.

He's getting up there in age. He missed most of the season with an injury. He is not the same player as he was when he dawned a Wings Jersey. Before his injury he was getting man handled in fights. Just disappointing really. His time to quit playing is approaching fast.

Uhh no one? You said he will be a bigger force than everyone on the Flames besides Iginla and Kiprusoff. Sounds like a deciding factor to me. I know Detroit isn't paying him that, but at one time he was considered a highly skilled player worthy of such of pay. Obviously no one would pay him that much now. All I was getting at (from my original post) was that Bertuzzi has been a let down every since he was suspended. I've seen him play numerous times after the suspension and he played no better than a mediocre third line player, netting occasional points. I see the role you are now expecting of him, which is reasonable. As a Calgary supporter I am not worried about him at all. But of course we will see what happens come game time tonight.

I think you are down playing his role. For a player making over $5 million a season he should be a little more than a physical presence, he should be getting 70+ points. When Detroit picked him up from Florida they were looking for a rental player that would do more than push people around. I'm sure they could find someone for a much better value that isn't a plague on his team. (A plague because all the negative attention he brings with him) A lot of the people on this board seem very animate that he be one of the cogs in the gear that will bring Calgary down. And I think if are you betting on him having that much of a role you will be disappointed. Eight games is pretty tough to make a decisive decision on a player like him. He is a roller coaster, he either plays decent or is totally invisible.

Really? I think what you are saying is pretty bold. Bertuzzi has not returned to his original form from before the Steve Moore incident. He has had a lot of injury time since that. So perhaps there is an impact player buried somewhere in there. But until I see him start playing good, I think it's a safe bet that he is a non-factor. Every time he touches the puck in Calgary he will booed. Booed hard. Whether that will get to him or motivate will no be known till Tuesday. But I think the pressure on him will be too much and he won't live up to the expectations a lot of you Detroit fans have put on him.

Flames in 6 Here is my prediction from the Flames camp. While the Flames haven't been the strongest on the road throughout the season, they picked up their road game near the end of the season. I think they will catch the Wings asleep in one of the games at Detroit. When the series heads to Calgary, the Flames will shine at home taking those two games. Heading back to Detroit the Wings will be strong and take that game. But the Flames will keep their winnings ways at home and finish them off on game 6. While Detroit is strong on the blue line, they will have difficulty shutting down two solid scoring lines. The Flames defence will not be perfect at stopping Detroit, Calgary's offence should be able to make up for it. Iginla and Phaneuf will be a force. Bertuzzi will be a non-factor. Huselius and Langkow will light it up.
