If we would take the entire nhl ranking from 1st to 16th to play the playoffs, we would not see a lot of Eastern Conference teams too! I guess that is done to assure that every market in the NHL has some team to cheer about in the playoffs.

Howard has an outstanding glove and he's very quick. He is a wonderful goaltender for the first save, however i'm quite concerned about him making the second and third saves, he's often out of position after the 1st. Also, he usually gives up juicy rebonds just in front of the crease. So far he has the usual statistics of RW goalies. 0.920 save%, 2.29 GAA Legace had sometimes even better figures, but screwed us in the playoffs.

I think Theodore should have poke checked this puck... Still... I hate to say that, but I'd take Crosby over any red wings player when it comes to score a shoutout goal..

This thread is obsolete. Zetterberg already stood up BIG WAY since the Olympics. Awesome game against the pens, that's the Z I want to see in the playoffs. I'd love to see a Wings/Pens rematch. However I am concerned about the pens making it to the finals.

Letting Sammy go was Holland's biggest mistake this year He is always scoring by streaks, and if such a streak happen in the playoffs he is a big contributor. He was pissing everybody for stupid shoots sometimes, but missing a shot never really hurts the team. Lack of clutch scoring does

Losing 6&7 in cup finals, that was tough.. Especially cause we thought losing game 6 was not that bad cause we could lift the cup at the Joe... But the first argument of our problems is simple: life-long contracts. Henrik now plays like a 36-year old veteran who is on his last contract, he does an ok job but nothing more (something like Shanny during his 2 last seasons)

I remember that during his two first years in Detroit, Franzen was nobody.. Some depth player, which would probably stayed in the 3rd line all his career. And then came the 2007-2008 playoffs.. He suddenly gained a lot of confidence and turned into MULE ! Probably one of the NHL guys with the most confidence when he goes to the net.. Zetterberg and Dats should learn from him, he is a beast physically but also mentally.

2002 Bowman redwings were playing the trap in the third period, and we had a record like 30-2 when leading after 2 periods. I think our defense is weaker. The solution is better defense. Too much offense in the 3rd period with a 1-goal lead leads to turnovers, I don't want that, I want the Wings to lock the game. Problem is that we let opponents play in our defensive zone! I never saw guys playing there in 5vs5 seasons before.. This was forbidden zone for Bowman Redwings, only superstar lines could go there. Now crappy Flames are enjoying there..

I was an exchange student in Tulane back in 2008, and when I was speaking about Red Wings hockey in the college bar, people were basically laughing at me: "You watch hockey? HAHA we have a hockey fan, but why man??".. I guess people there were still watching reruns of saints superbowl rather than watching olympic hockey

You can hate one guy but still respect him. I really hate him, but he scored that goal in moneytime. I thought he would be nowhere again, but he scored. I think you must give the man credit for this.

Thornton is the Canadian version of Marian Hossa. The entire Sharks line is a problem, problably their worst line because they just play right now like in their usual losing playoff series. Getzlaf and Crosby lines have been great on the other hand. The PP has been ridiculous. I don't agree with most Babcock bashers, but one thing is sure: Babcock was not to provide wings (or Canada) solutions to improve PP. It costed us the Cup last year, and maybe the playoffs this year.

I really hope Sweden will have an early exit, we need a rested Zetterberg to finish in the top 8. Goaltending has been Sweden Nbr.1 problem in many former olympics, let's hope Lundqvist chokes I'd like Canada to go far... Lots of guys which will be tired for the end of the season, and no many red wings Datsyuk needs some more confidence in front of the net, let's hope he will get crazy goals there.

I just don't get one thing. Let's just update the Joe seats... Lets make new ones, renew the facilities. Cost would be minimal and adapted to Detroit current economic issue. No need of a new stadium. The legend is in the Joe, it would be ridiculous to share our rink with a Basketball team.

Kronwall = tons of penalty minutes it killed us on the last SCF. I am not sure it will be a difference. Franzen can be a difference but such a long injury scares me... He could be huge in the playoffs, but don't count on him to help the wings make them.

We are not an old team. Lidstrom is not having a great year, but he might come back in the playoffs. Franzen missing means a lot of clutch goals and a lot of points. With this guy healthy in the playoffs we can go far. Right now i am seeing a Red Wings team with a much better defense than last year. Datsyuk is starting to play well (2 last games), Zetterberg and Franzen will hurt everybody when they come back, and we don't have Hossa bad mojo with us. We can go all the way. I'd love to see a Belle against the Penguins
