SCF GAME 3 GDT: Red Wings 2 at Penguins 4

When the Wings PK is really good, it seems to be really aggresive. Now they look like every other team that just seems to try and get in the lanes and block things. They used to not even give teams time to get set in the PP and they were killing everything.

I wish Mike Babcock was my dad!

    Pens Boards, (merged)

Michel Therrien obviously is posting using the handle no name because he is still trying to get someone to believe that the Wings are obstructing.

    SCF refs

I think most people here are not complaing too much about the calls because the Wings won. What if Malkin scores on his break away after taking down Kronwell with the trip? What if one of the only scoring chances for the Wings in the third is the Helm break away that was negated by the slash? They call a slash on the Wings when a Pen has his stick broken, but when the Pens player obviously hits Helm right on the hands there is no call. As someone mentioned already, I was surprised at how many times the announcers mentioned the non-calls against the Pens. I am glad that the WIngs can get the win in spite of the calls. But if they call it like this all series and they don't get a couple of bounces, like they did in game 1, than those missed calls are going to add up and hurt the WIngs.

NHL responds to waved-off goal in Game 3

I understand the rule of blowing the whistle when the ref can't see the puck. The thing that bothers me about the non-goal last night was that if the ref could not see the puck due to the black pads on Hiller, that means he would have lost sight of it while it was sitting between Hillers legs. He should have blown the whistle immediately! There are under 2 minutes of a playoff game and the team with the goalie out of the net trying to score the tying goal needs all the time they can get. How many seconds tic away from the moment the ref says he losses sight of the puck and to when the idiot actually blows the whistle? I know that added some time back on the clock, but the late whistle was a mistake. I am not a conspiracy guy, but how does all that time go by when he supposedly can't see the puck, and only AFTER the puck gets shot into the net does he immediately wave it off? The Wings need to play 60 minutes of hockey so that these stupid lucky bounces and bad ref calls do not decide the game for them. Hopefully this will wake them up and get them playing a complete game. I told my wife after the game. It would not be Wings playoff hockey if there was not at least one dis-allowed goal. Hopefully this is the one and only dis-allowed goal for this years run. I don't want to see any dis-allowed because of Homer's butt!

No one standing up to Pronger...

I know that some people like the old stand up for your guy mentality. But I LOVE the fact that the Wings are not doing any of that. Doing that is exactly what The Ducks, Calgary and Son Jose want the Wings to do. If you are a physical team like they say those teams are, part of your game plan is to hit and hit until the other team starts taking runs at you. You get under there skin to the point of forcing them to take the penalties. If you are smart, like the Wings are, you just get up after the hit. You don't go after anyone. If the big physical team can't intimidate you with the hits, you have ruined their game plan. I think that was what happened with The Sharks. All the hitting wasn't working and it got them off of their game.

WCF Game 2 (5/13): Ducks 4, Red Wings 3 OT

Airborn, That was my complaint! They can be so quick with the whistle when the puck is bouncing around in front of the net, but when no one knows exactly where the puck is there is no whistle! Hasek probably knew the puck hit him but didn't know where it was after that. If there never blow the whislte then there would be a lot more goals scored!

    Post-GAME 1: Red Wings 2, Ducks 1

The no calls were ridiculous. The obvious hand pass was the most amazing to me. The Niedermeyer take down of Pavel was questionable too IMHO. The officiating has been so inconsistent for the whole playoffs. As far as fluky goals, I think you make your own luck. Throw the puck at the net, you never know what might happen. I think we are going to see more of those types of goals since it is so hard to get anything past the Michelin Man.

    What Pav and Sammy Got....

I just wonder if trash talking like that even does anything in the NHL. I know there is a lot of trash talking out there, but it is usually guys trying to get under another guys skin. I bet Malts does a lot of that. Just making a threat like, you are going to get it, just sounds stupid. It sounds like your mother, "you are going to get it when we get home young man!" I remember when the AVs brought up a guy to be the intimidator during their series against the Wings. I think his name was Parker. He was this intense looking guy and he was skating by the WIngs bench with this stupid glare on his face. You could just see the Wings laughing at this idiot. Like Cheli or Shanny or anybody was going to be intimidated! I think if the Wings just play their game and let the Ducks TRY and intimidate them and get under their skin, the WIngs will win. Just like the Calgary series, the Ducks are going to get frustrated that their intimidation doesn't work.

    Doom and gloomers

I can't remember who posted it, but the funniest of these doom and gloomers was the person who said he picked them to win it in 6 games, but then was giving up after game 4. Did he not realize that in order to win it in 6 games, it meant that they would have to lose a couple of games?

    Game 6

Instead of going into tomorrows game thinking about the first 10 minutes of intensity from Calgary, I think the Wings need to go at the Flames with more intensity. We have to play smart physical hockey and not go after people. That was the cool thing about the game today, as much as the Flames tried to get the Wings fighting at the end, no one really took the bait. Let's leave the fighting to the Calgary goons, and let them take the stupid penalties. Let's shut up Don Cherry and all of the idiots who want to defend any of the actions of the Flames today by beating Calgary on their ice and doing it without lowering ourselves to their level. My only concern tomorrow is if the Wings get up early, Calgary might start taking a lot of cheap shots and I wouldn't like to see anyone get hurt!

    Post-Game 3: Flames 3, Red Wings 2 (4/17)

I'm not going to say that Bert was the reason we lost, but what did he do tonight to make us so anxious to get him back in there? Like I said before, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You had hungry young guys that would do anything to help win the game. Instead we try to get this veteran player who has played very little hockey in the last year to come in and make a team that is up 2-0 and make them a better team. As far as the Lids turnover, it happens. He tried to make a pass that didn't work, maybe he should have just cleared it, but it is hard to criticize Lids for a mistake because he makes so few. Right now it is just realizing if the Wings keep there heads this series is theirs. If the Flames can't do anything for the first two games and then need to be home with screaming fans before they can muster up the guts to play professional hockey, the Wings can surely muster up the balls to take game 4. Even if the Flames ride the fans for the next one, if they can't win on the road they are not going to go far in these playoffs!

    Glowing Puck

I hated the glowing puck! I actually signed a petition to have it stopped! For me it made it harder to watch the game. It was too distracting. Trying to watch the play and the puck and then seeing this big glowing thing sliding around the ice. It did sort of look like a video game. I think that since it was a Fox idea and not an NHL idea, it actually lasted longer than it would have if all games had the glowing puck. I also remember some players saying that it made the puck feel different and they didn't like playing with the glowing pucks. I think that there is room for the game to grow to try and bring in people. Even though I am not crazy about them, I think the shoot-outs are a way to make it more exciting than a regular season tie. This could help bring in people. I just think there are hockey people and non-hockey people. If the only way a guy is going to watch the game is if the puck glows, maybe it isn't the right sport for him. I find that most people that I turn on to hockey, never took the time to learn the rules, and once they know what is going on most think it's a great game. I think it was ABC that was trying to do a little educating during the playoffs at one time. They basically went through the rules throughout the game. Maybe there should be more of that throughout the year. Then again if the majority of the games are on Versus, only hockey fans are going to watch games anyway!

    PRE-GAME 3: (4/17) Red Wings @ Flames - 10:00 PM EDT

Hello! New member here. I couldn't resist commenting on tonights game. In some ways I hope Bert doesn't play tonight. If it ain't broke don't fix it. We don't need to have him in the line up to push people around, the Wings are playing a pretty physical game already. They are also playing a SMART physical game. I think Calgary is having trouble doing the same thing. It seems as if they want to come out playing physical in the first period, but their style of physical play is putting them in the penalty box. The Wings are out-working the Flames and this is forcing them to take the penalties. If the Wings can start the game the same way and take the air our of the Saddledome, I don't think the Flames have much of a chance. It is going to be totally on the Wings to keep up the intensity through 60 minutes. The Wings seemed to back off the tiniest bit in the second period of the last game, and the announcers were talking about Calgary getting some momentum. But they still only managed 3 scoring chances in that period! Given what has happened the last few years, I was worried about playing Calgary in the first round, and I never expected it to be so one sided. It seems almost like Calgary hasn't decided to play yet, but I would like to think that the Wings are finally playing like the number one seed and dominating the number 8 like they should every year. So I believe both teams will keep the same game plan for tonight. The Flames will again TRY to do what they said they were going to do the last two games, and the Wings will keep up the intensity and play the smart physical game they have played in the first two. I do think it can be a closer game if the Flames can keep their emotions in check and play smart, but if they come out like the last two they haven't got a chance.
