Non-Michigan fans: How did you become a Wings fan?

I honestly can't really remember how I became a Wings fan. I grew up watching the Leafs with my dad, so somewhere along the line I must have seen them play the Wings and I guess I was impressed, or liked the jerseys or something. No big story behind it for me. All I know is that I've been a Wings fan for as long as I can remember.

    Post-GAME 3 (4/30): Sharks 2, Red Wings 1 F

Very disappointing loss after such a great first period. We did the same thing they did in the last game, played one great period and that was it. Really frustrating to watch. We were completely manhandled in our own zone for the second half of the game. If we lose this series (not saying we will, though - there's lots of hockey still to play), or even if we win for that matter, I can definately see a lot of people here wanting a major size upgrade for next season. Onto some positive things. Lidstrom was unbelievable tonight, it was definately his best game of the playoffs so far. Too bad it had to come in a losing cause. Hasek was awesome as well, he did everything he could to keep the game close in the 3rd. Sorta wish he didn't decide to play dead on the Cheechoo goal, but it is Hasek after all. Samuelsson was pretty good tonight too, Datsyuk showed some great things but didn't get a whole lot done. Bertuzzi was pretty awful tonight. I didn't once see him do anything physical other than taking stupid penalties. The reffing wasn't great but it's been a whole lot worse. The fact is that good reffing or not, we should have had this game in the bag and we couldn't get it done. Not all is lost though. Win the next game and we're right back in the driver's seat.

GAME 3 (4/30): Red Wings @ Sharks- 10:00 PM ET

The first period is going to be crucial. I hope and expect that we'll come out much stronger tonight than we did in the previous two games. Again, we'll need big things from Hasek, and a great game by our top line. We've got two chances to win one in SJ, let's make it the first one (but I wouldn't complain if we took both!).

    Rangers/Sabres GDT Game 3

This was a great game. Tons of scoring chances, probably the most exciting game I've seen so far in the playoffs. Glad to see NYR back in the series, at least it will make game 4 worth watching.

    Post-Game 2: Red Wings 3, Sharks 2 (4/28)

Oh my god, was I ever happy when Datsyuk put that puck in the net. That line of Bert/Datsyuk/Z looked great today I thought, Zetterberg had an excellent game. Dan Cleary, I don't think I can say anything that hasn't already been said a million times. Would we ever lose if we had a team full of Clearys? I don't think we would. Even though we had fewer shots today, our scoring chances were way better. I was pretty disappointed after Hasek gave it away for the 2nd goal, but he came back strong and made the big saves when he needed to. He's been very steady so far in this series, but for the love of GOD I wish he'd stay in his net. Our defence was really good today, with the exception of a couple of bad turnovers. Markov and Lilja stood out to me as being really solid. Lidstrom had a few brutal giveaways, but thankfully they didn't cost us. I'm liking the position we're in heading to San Jose. Of course it would have been nice to win both games at home, but this was just the kind of win we needed to get things rolling before we head to the west coast. I'm looking forward to Monday.

    POST GAME - Game 1 (4/26) SJ 2 DET 0

Ugh, I feel bad for anyone who payed to watch that game. I don't think there's anything worse than watching your team get shut out. The good news for us is Hasek was solid, and it's a best of seven. I just wish we could have gotten more shots through to the net. All the shots we did manage to get through were taken from the point. Bertuzzi really needs to shoot more, that was really frustrating that one time when he got to the inside and threw it back to the point. Even though we lost, I really don't feel that worried for some reason. I think this team will be able to bounce back with a great game on Saturday.

    Post-GAME 6: 4/21 Red Wings 2, Flames 1 (2OT)

SO glad we took this one. Great game all around, every single Red Wing looked good out there. Quincey played great stepping in for Lebda. And what more can I say about Franzen? If I could have picked a player to score the winner, it would have either been him or Cleary. I thought Samuelsson played a strong game tonight as well. Let's not forget that save Hasek made in Phaneuf in the 3rd, how huge was that? I was a little nervous during the Flames' powerplays in OT, espescially when Moss just shot it over the net, but I never really had the sense that the Wings were going to lose. Hats off to Kipper for standing on his head again. I honestly feel really good about this team right now. I don't think I've had this much confidence in the Wings since '02. I know a lot of people here think we wouldn't be able to beat San Jose, but with the way this team has been playing I think we have a great shot at doing some damage this year. Time to rest up and get ready for tomorrow's game, should be pretty entertaining. Sharks or Stars? I say who cares, bring either of 'em on. Looking forward to round 2, and hopefully Holmstrom's okay.

    Lightning eliminated

Neither of these matchups really interest me, although I wasn't interested in NJ/Tampa at first and it ended up being a pretty fun series to watch. I'm gonna go with Sabres in 6. Sens in 5 if Brodeur plays like he did early in the Tampa series, or Sens in 7 if Brodeur plays like he has the past few games.
  11. I love how the headline on TSN reads "League Delivers Message". The only message I'm getting from this is that the NHL isn't ballsy enough to take discipline on a player that could actually make a difference. I don't think anyone is surprised though.

    Pre-GAME 6: (4/22) Red Wings @ Flames - 9 PM ET

I don't think I've ever wanted to win one game so badly. I hated the Flames coming into this series and now I hate them even more. The good news for us is that I can't really see the Wings coming out flat tonight with everything that went down yesterday. If we stick to our game, we should win with ease.

    Post-GAME 5: Red Wings 5, Flames 1 (4/21)

The Flames took their goonery to a whole new level today. It's pretty disgusting to watch this team when they are losing. What the hell was McLennan thinking? It seemed to me like Playfair just threw him out there to stir s*** up. I'm really starting to get irritated by the CBC announcers who think the Wings are running Kiprusoff too much. I don't understand how any Flames fan can justify what McLennan did by saying he was sticking up for Kiprusoff. That's the kind of thing I've come to expect from Flames fans recently though. Anyways, on to the actual HOCKEY part of the game, because the last ten minutes was surely not hockey. I was a little nervous coming out of the first period still tied, but the Wings played great for the last two periods. Hasek was much better today than he was in the last two games, espescially on the breakaway in the first period. If that gets by him, I don't like our chances today. I'm so glad that we finally got the special teams working for us. Both the PK and the PP were awesome today. How great is Dan Cleary? I think he's been the best player in this series for either team by far. It was great to see him rewarded with the penalty shot goal. Lidstrom was also much better today than in Calgary, that's a good sign. Good to see Zetts back on the scoresheet too. The reffing wasn't great today, but at least today it didn't cost us the game. What was up with the goalie interference call in the 3rd? Horrible penalty, but again, it didn't matter today. I just hope this team comes out tomorrow with an inspired game on the road, and they should considering everything the Flames tried to pull today. There is nothing I would like more right now than to dominate the Flames in their own building.
