The NHL only cares about ratings now, they never have a long term plan for the future. If you keep marketing the same teams how do you expect the league to grow. This is why teams like Phoenix fail. Last year their was an article on the machines they use to keep the ice in good condition. They explained how there is nothing preventing them from doing something like this in a warmer climate. I would like to see Sharks vs. Ducks with palm trees in the background. Now that would attract viewers.

People (mostly pens fans) are going nuts on this over on the HF boards. For this you have to look at Downie's past and Crosby's. Downie has been known to try these cheap shots, but crosby has been known to dive and embellish plays. I think this was a case of Downie trying to take crosby out along the boards lost his balance and tried to keep himself up by hanging on to crosby. Crosby feeling this contact fell to the ice, but was tangled up with Downie so Downie ended up crushing crosby's knee to the ice. It's really hard to tell how bad something is when crosby gets hurt. In the Olympics he was tapped in the head with a stick and laid on the ice like he died. Then this happens and he is back out on the ice 30 seconds later. I am not a fan of using a person's past to judge if it was intentional or not, when it is boarderline as this play. I guess Downie can be blamed for building up that reputation.

You know what is sad about this. A bruin's player could do the same thing to a pens player the next time they play. That player will be suspended because the league would say it was pre meditated, even though the hit is "legal" in the rules. This non suspension just took the league back a few steps. They went in the opposite direction of eliminating head hunting. The NHL should have made up for it's mistake with the Richards hit by suspending Cooke.

Wow why all the hate for MO cheese. Even other arenas respect what he does. Been to a lot of Leaf's games at Maple leaf Garden and Air Canada Centre. Even with their hate for Detroit they still give him a round of applause. Do you really expect him to pose for a picture?

Question on the 2nd goal. Lebda over skated the puck, and was checked in the corner with out the puck. How is that not interference? You could see while he was being checked he was trying to get back to puck.

Taking that you POS refs. good job nick. That was almost one to many passes though.

There was so many thing wrong with that call. s*** on one replay it looked like anderson grabbed homer and pulled him in to draw contact. When are refs going to learn the goalie has the right in the crease but not 2 feet out of it.

LOL anyone else laughing at this. This is the only game on tonight, and it's on versus. So any new hockey fans that the NHL picked up over the break is probably slowly losing them by this joke of offciating.

Call a ******* dive ref my god... If that was NCAA it would have been double minors because they will not let s*** like that fly.

I am really going to have to start putting some of this blame on Babcock. He was even blowing leads over the olympic break.

Babcock you need to call a timeout after your team gives up a 2 goal lead. This is not an acceptable way to start post-olympic play.

To say Crosby is humble is a joke, good player, but not humble. Humble people give respect to the other team/players. Saying "I did not expect it to be that close" is not humble.

Haha if only crosby's play determined how much respect we have for him. We hate crosby because of the antics he pulls on the ice, and the special treatment the league gives him.

Man if crosby was not such a whiny b**ch I would have no problem with it. I hate how that big of a ****** can be that good of a hockey player. On a side note I think someone from team USA is going to lay him out in the upcoming NHL games.

I don't know how much of that russian game was nabby and the russian D sucking it up. Canada played a good game, but the russians really aided that route. If Canada and US meet again it reminds me of the ducks and the wings. I don't think I have ever seen a team block as many shots as the US has. They are not just laying out on the ice they are diving in front of shots. The problem for Canada when they face the US is the problem ever wings goalie has had to face, until this year. They are not facing a lot of shots. For that russian game I think at one point Luo gave up 3 goals on 15 shots.

This russian team has not grit. They will not put there body on the line to block a shot. Did you watch that USA game today 25 shots blocked at one point. Their D is horrible, bunch of stars out there with no chemistry.

I could not get enough Olympic hockey until I found out how they do shoot outs. Left a bad taste in my mouth.

Eh the pens are in the LEast. Heck if we were in their conference we would have a playoff spot.

A lot of fans are getting anxious looking at who is ahead of us. We have to start worrying about who is behind us. The Ducks are pulling back into a playoff spot like they do every year. Dallas and Minny are close too.

Lol this is why I laughed when the wings front office told us not to expect to much out of this season. This team gives us reasons to have high expectations by gaining 3 goal leads. Then they just collapse and end up losing, when they should have won.
