I don't think it's required in any pro league. But it's something alot of teams do before they fully commit. (which is smart) This whole thing seems kind of strange to me. With all the scrutiny Hossa was getting during and after the finals, you'd think an injury report would come out. You never heard anything all throughout the free-agency process or in any of the press conferences.

I think the only thing you'll see in NASCAR is the end of either the Truck or Nationwide Series. There's still alot of support to keep the Sprint Cup going for the foreseeable future. As far as the Tigers go, they're not going anywhere.

If I may play devil's advocate for a second.... I think Hossa was unfairly singled out by alot of people on here. On the other hand, that doesn't erase the fact that Hossa was one of the players did not step up when we needed him to. As far as the injury, I don't think there's enough evidence out there either way to say it had an effect.

What does he contribute besides fights? Can he be a shutdown penalty killer? If there's an injury, can he take more minutes and contribute consistently? There's a difference between a gritty, defensive forward and an enforcer.

I was 7 when the accident happened, so I never really got to appreciate Vladdy's play first hand. But everytime I read something about him, I always hear how he was always a step ahead of Lidstrom in his development, and was compared to a Scott Stevens type defenseman. I read that and I think about where the Wings and Vladdy might be today if the accident never happened. It makes me sad to think we'll never get a chance to see how great he could have been.

Actually, it's a brilliant move. All throughout his prime, Zetterberg gets paid equal to or more than his market value. The lower salary in the final years knock the cap hit down. Z can retire, and his remaining contract goes off the books.
