Not a bad pickup at all. He's shown some promise, so let's see how he does.
-
That really is the crux of my entire argument. People on here are asking for a pure enforcer type guy to do nothing but fight. And no, While having one enforcer on the team probably won't start costing us games, look at it this way. Are people REALLY willing to take a roster spot away from a guy like Helm, Leino, or Abby in order for a guy to play 2 minutes a game and look for fights? Anyone who thinks that truly has their priorities mixed up. Again, I want a player who makes an impact on the score. If he fights, that's a bonus, nothing more
-
Trust me, I hate seeing us get mangled in fights as much as you do. I was sitting about 5 yards away from the Andreas Lilja-Shea Weber fight (add that into a 8-0 loss, multiply the fact that the fiance is a Preds fan, that one's not going to die anytime soon). Would I love to see a McCarty-Lemieux style beat down every game, why not. But remember what's the most important thing here. The only beef I have with some of these posters (and this is not directed at you) is they make it seem like they would give up our success for a team that fights more. I'm all for a Dallas Drake type guy, someone who can fight, but WHO CAN ALSO CONTRIBUTE WHERE IT COUNTS. If all they do is run around and smash people's face in, they're not contributing to the result of the game. If you get a physical, defensive minded grinded, who can kill penalties as well as hold his own in fights, then fine. Remember what wins games.

I wouldn't be disappointed if he signed, but I wouldn't be jumping for joy either.
-
I'm asking this for all serious debate purposes. Can a bigger, more physical-style team really reach the top in the new NHL? In the 4 years since the lockout, Anaheim was really the only champion that played that style, and those first two years were a little shallow depth wise.

To quote Dane Cook, "It's amazing how sometimes a little ball of lint can turn into a clusterf***"
-
You may want to go outside of the family to teach them then....
-
True. But keep in mind last year on a contending team he only played 3 games, spending the rest of the season in the AHL. To me, that is a bit of a red flag. Obviously teams are seeing something that are keeping him out of consistent time in the NHL. And yea, as far as skill guys go, Prospal is my #1 pick as well
-
There's a very good reason he hasn't been given many opportunities. Watch his play in the defensive zone....
-
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Everyone knows Filpulla is going to Ottawa for Heatley, Neil, Ottawa's Lion Mascot, and a bagel. THEN you trade the bagel for Ovechkin and Green. It's common freaking sense. My God you're stupid.

I just don't think he's what we need. If we sign him/Sykora/Prospal any of these other guys mentioned, fine, some additional scoring. But look how Pitt beat us those last 2 games. Look how Nashville virtually dominated us last season. We're getting beat by the younger, physical, more energetic 3rd-4th lines. Guys with strong defensive instincts who step up and score timely goals. These were the guys that killed us last year, I constantly saw them beat us to loose pucks, cause turnovers, basically disrupting the smaller skill guys we had out there against them. I don't Skill players like Williams aren't going to fix that matchup. Like I said, nothing wrong with additional scoring. I just don't think It'll lead to improvement
-
My guess is Holland and Babs still see some untapped potential they want to develop. After all, he's really only been in the pros for a year. While I agree he could probably step right onto the 3rd/4th line and play effectively, I think the powers think he can maybe improve his scoring touch or his defensive abilities or etc. If they develop him right, I can really see Abby turning into a Colby Armstrong/Dustin Brown type player
-
Grier will not get 1.5 (probably no higher than a million), nor will Williams get 2.5. However, I think your estimation of what Sundin would take is grossly low. Wings or not, I don't think Sundin would go much lower than the 3-4 million range that Snazzy indicated, and I do think there are other teams who have enough interest and cap room to make a short-term offer in that range. If not, I think Sundin could head back to Sweden
-
I think Abby is a last resort, as Holland wants to let him play top-6 minutes in GR and let him develop more. (We all saw how much Helm improved as a result of this).
-
Possibly no. I think Holland was planning on Hudler staying, and would make later bring in someone like Grier or Betts during camp on a one-year or tryout deal. But now that Huds split, and he has a small amount of space to work with, his options open up a bit more. He can get someone like Williams/Sykora/Prospal and still have room to make a play at a grinding forward if he trades Meech or Lebda, or Lilja goes on LTIR. (I doubt Holland will make a trade if the latter is the case).
-
How are we not getting investigated? Oh well, who cares
-
I think he meant prospect Dick Axelsson, who as far as I know was recently signed to come over here
-
Holland sucks Not really, but someone was going to say it anyway so I wanted to be first
-
Prospal wouldn't be a bad signing at all. But Again, I think we should be fine in the scoring department next season. What we really need is a physical presence to help on the penalty kill and compete against the younger, more energetic third and fourth lines out there.
-
Just in shock right now. One of my favorite players Link
-
I could very well see this. He has shown over the past couple of years how good he can be when he plays with good talent around him. I think back to the end of '08 when Franzen started getting more top-6 ice time

After looking like they were going to stand pat, the Tigers made a big splash early in deadline-day. DetNews
