There are a lot of tests that a player has to go through from cognitive to pupil to reactionary tests. But if a player is able to pass all those they still go through brain wave scans. But it's when they pass those and still have headaches and the athlete either lies and says they don't have them or, since they are professional athletes and probably ache all over all the time, they think it's normal and don't think it's worth mentioning. SIS is very serious, and it seems to be what has put Crosby on the shelf. Getting a concussion while still having symptoms of a concussion are very life threatening, not only literally, but also the way of life.

Chara is not a dirty player, but clean players have been known to have mental lapses. But this thread is going to go the same way as all dirty hit threads go, pro enforcers don't see anything wrong, anti-enforcer see's the world falling down and then the general masses see it as dirty (the poll on HFboards is 60% to 40% calling for a suspension).

History aside, it looked like intent to injure. Obviously if he was just going to rub him against the boards and Pacs hit the stantion, then I'd think other wise, but Chara made sure he actually threw Pacs into the stantion. Just look at the replay, you can clearly see him throw him into it. You don't need to be a dirty player to let your emotions get the best of you. look at Bertuzzi, he was never a dirty player and just that one incident will forever label him as a dirty player when we all know he isn't. Hell, even LePuke wasn't a dirty player, but that one incident he lost his brain and smushed Draper. Players can have a relatively clean career and still do something dirty.

This all stems from Pacs and the Canadiens completely embarrassing Chara and the bruins a couple months before the same way we just were embarrassed.

Assuming Lidstrom wins the Norris, has there ever been an NHL player to retire after winning an individual major award? Honest question. I think Lidstrom plays such a low effort game that he still has another two years in him if he wants to keep playing. if Kronwall showed any ability to be a #1 DMan, I'm sure Lidstrom's retiring choice would be so much easier, but I'm assuming he doesn't want to leave the DRW SOL.

You got guys like Clutterbuck, who is out with an "upper body injury" aka concussion from Gillies, and Tangoradi who is out with a concussion from Gillies and we just learned that Probert died from all the concussions he had and Gillies is still defended by people on this board because he's a pure goon. What's noble about going off on a guy on the ice who was clearly injured by your cross ice charge...then taunting him as he laid on the ice. Followed by simultaneously checking a guys head into the boards and punching him in th face? In a little over two minutes of ice time Gillies has impacted two NHL players, one a promising prospect and the other a leader and top tier player on the Wild. "Mehhhh, Gillies was just retaliating to Clusterf***,,,mehhhhhh", Clusterbuck's hit is done every game, at least a dozen times to Homstrom and players like Miller and Eaves and Filppula who are easily knocked down to the ice. If you're skating backwards, you aren't going to be propelled forward at any dangerous rate. This wasn't directed at any individual, just tired of seeing Gillies defended. The game needs to get rid of Gillies so brain injuries don't take the lives of any more of our players. Obviously if you play on the edge and you cross the line, once, maybe twice, it's tolerable...but man... in two minutes you cheap shot two players and alter their careers.

A person gets a two minute penalty for a minor infraction. They also may be assessed a double minor in certain circumstances. Five minute penalties are giving out for majors. High sticking, boarding, and fighting are the most common. A ten minute misconduct can also be assessed as well as a game misconduct. Reciting stuff is fun! As for your second part, I'm guessing you assume Erik Karlsson is an excellent defensive defenseman although his league worst plus minus says otherwise. He must have had a lot of unlucky situations happen to him for his plus minus to be that atrocious. His -10 in the past ten games where his team only gave up 26 goals total is because he just happened to step on the ice the moment a goal was being scored eh? We got 60% of the points on the recent trip, equating that over a full season comes out to 98 points. Not bad, it's a 5th seed in the West. Obviously we need to play better than a 5th seed, but all things considered, picking up 60% of points on a road trip is quite good.
