Pre-Cap, that was the going rate for a solid number 2 D-Man. Post-Cap, his cap hit is too much for this team.
-
And it's done by the minority while the majority think he's not.
-
When a guy shows consistent promise and shows he can produce in the playoffs and he is 22-23 at the time of re-signing, you pay for the future in hopes it pans out, and like Holland thought, it has paid off. When your head coach says you were the best player for the first half of the season and you're only making 3mil, that is not being overpaid.
-
His first year he was called upon to be an integral part of the team, he had to grow up fast. His earliest mentor was probably Murphy.

After reading this thread it seems Filppula lost the game. I would have put my money on the other 11 forwards who did jack s*** (minus DHE who were fantastic) and didn't draw a penalty in the OT.
-
Plus, try not to forget in our shoot-out win a few nights ago, the game rested on his shoulders to score because our other guys couldn't and he buried the puck to keep the game alive for the Wings. He already has a few penalty shot goals and does fairly well in shoot-outs as well. Kid has poise.

Yes. Third on the team in points in the playoffs. 7th highest =/- in all of the playoffs. Tied for most assists for all Red Wings as well. This was all this past playoffs of course. Top six the year before in points for forwards for Red Wing players. So top 6 in points both years while playing exceptional defense would constitute a top six forward right? It's obvious you have hate for him for some reason, so I'll just leave you with this: name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" />

A yes, the "only goals count as offensive success" argument.
-
Exactly. He might produce as well as other 3mil forwards offensivley. But he easily one of the better players in all players who make 3mil or less defensively. Plus, like you said, he shows up for the playoffs every single year, not something that can be said for all our players that make 3mil plus...
-
If not for his injury he'd be on pace for over 50 and he plays some of the best defense on the team, so yes, he is well worth his cap hit.
-
Are people here actually bagging on Filppula for missing the break-a-way he caused solely by himself and then hooked so his momentum changed right before he could shoot? Or is there some other play I'm unaware as i didn't watch the first.

This period was almost as ugly as an offsrping between Chelios and Malkin.

With Homer returning Sunday, who's the odd man out?

I can't see a single team willing to take that and offload a scoring winger, sorry. Throw in a second and/or third, and we might be able to get a scoring winger. Would you trade away a first or second line scoring winger for two 6/7th D-men, a fourth line schlub and an injury prone third line player...w/o a pick involved?
-
Because all of our player's salaries have been paid. Essentially they are playing the playoffs for free, which is why we can call up however many players we want.
-
Yay, someone who understand more about hockey than just the Red Wings and their names! Everyone saw this coming and if you didn't then brush up on capology 101. Now let's hope when lilja comes back lebeech is waived!

Bang Bus for the win!

Chris Osgood proves Jimmy Howard should be in goal for Red Wings

our problem last night was uninspired defense and terrible vision(not seeing) from Ozzie. -
Looked intentionally, that fine is acceptable. They needed to do something, so a good slap on the wrist is a perfect punishment.

That sucks. Been brutal lately. Time for some more Kindl?

I expect at the end of the season we'll have the fourth spot wrapped up. I've been saying for the past few weeks that we'll hit our stride after the Olympic break when everyone is finally healthy.
