You don't need to talk to be a good leader, such as Yzerman. Only reason we haven't seen any or that many Russian captains is because they've only been in the league a couple decades and look at some of the best Russian players and see who was on their team and why they never got the C. Everyone loves Datsyuk, as they do with Zetterberg, but it's not like Datsyuk is terrible at English, Holmstrom is terrible at English. I honestly hold to my guns that you want a captain that will play 80+ games a year. neither Kronwall or Zetterberg have shown they can do that. I know Z dominates in the playoffs as well, one of the best two year stanley cup runs I've ever seen. But you need a captain that will be healthy more often than not and also leads by example on the ice, in my opinion. If Z could stay healthier longer, I'd give him the C no questions asked at all.

Sucks for him, but he's sucked this season and Howie has been the third best goalie in the league (GAA, SV%). If Ozzie is going to be a locker room cancer, trade his ass.

I want Z to get it, but the captain should play damn near every game of the season, which is why I think Datsyuk will get it, even though I think Z possess better leadership abilities.

Agreed. He seems to have a very very good head on his shoulders. I think "under-performing" at the WJC, actually helped him, as it showed that he isn't invincible. Physically he NEEDS to get bigger. He's admitted that he lacks the "corner" game. If he puts on another 20 pounds of muscle he'll be the same size as Datsyuk. I hope he takes Fillpula's route, in the sense to improve his defense constantly, because I'd rather him turn into a Filppula with a more nose for the goal, instead of a Hudler who is offensively overly-gifted, but under-sized and a one dimensional player. I do think Tatar is ahead of the curve though in the sense he GETS the game better than those two at that point. It wasn't til' Hudler's thrid season in the AHL where he became a plus 1ppg player, while Filppulas first and only season in the AHL he was a .98 ppg player.

I know we all want to throw Cormier under the bus, and rightfully so, but if his coaches in the CHL or the team he was drafted by never speak up, then the kid has no idea what is right or wrong as stupid and wrong as it sounds. If no ones ever told him that hockey shouldn't be played this way, then you let him continue to play hockey, this kid probably has nothing else in life. Dumb dumb dumb move, but if no one has told this under 20? year old not to do this sprt of dirty hockey move, then you can't blame him too much, even though we all know and should have the common sense to NEVER ever do something like this.
