    Retire #4

Egroen, you make some very substantial points and when you do something like that it is very hard to argue against. One thing I would really like to see is a cited article where Illitch states why his number is not up in the rafters. I hope this doesn't turn into another thread that people go back and forth why Fedorov or Shanny or Cheli or Draper or Ozzie or (insert players who won the cup with Detroit during the late 90s early 00's) deserves to be in the rafters. How long have you wanted to post something like this Egroen?

    12/30 GDT: Red Wings 4, Blackhawks 0

Why? Don't be sorry for making sweet GDTs! If you made this GDT tomorrow then you should be apologizing, but you did it the day of the game so it's all good! Wings give up a couple cheapies in the first, get within one in the second, then go ahead mid-third period. Wings: 4 Sparrows: 3

    Bring up some Griffins?

    We have no cap space

    whats wrong with zetterberg?

Seems every year we have a "What's wrong with Zetterberg, is he injured?" thread. He's just not very consistent through the season, just wait for him to catch on fire and all will be good!

    Long Q&A

Teh Linkzor "Has Hudler's stock with Babcock finally risen? I have this fear that given a choice between Samuelsson and Hudler for next year, Detroit would go with Samuelsson based on Babcock's love for Sammy and Hudler constantly being in his doghouse. Hudler is out-producing Datsyuk at their respective ages. Be a shame to lose him." "Chris: What's the latest news you know of in regards to Zetterberg's contract? Khan: Holland met with his agent recently and made good progress. Unlike Datsyuk's deal, which didn't get finalized until close to the end of the season in 2006-07, I think Zetterberg's contract will be done much sooner. No doubt it will be least as long as Datsyuk (seven years), and maybe as long as 10 years. This would enable them to front-load it heavily, so he gets more money early and the team's salary cap hit stays manageable, as his pay decreases towards the end of the deal. I don't have a good read on whether it will be worth more than Lidstrom's $7.45 million annual salary. My guess is it will be worth more, as I don't think Lidstrom will get bent out of shape if Zetterberg earns a little more." "Chris: Any chance the league will instill a luxury tax so that teams can go over the cap in order to re-sign their own players? Khan: Interesting concept. NBA teams can go over the cap to sign their own free agents. However, I don't think we'll see this in the NHL, which went to great lengths coming out of the lockout to implement a hard cap, closing every potential loop hole. I'm sure the Wings, Rangers and other big-spending clubs would approve, but most of the teams probably wouldn't go for it."

    Hate

I'd say Chicago fans. They are the only team that chants Red Wings suck through the entire game. And I wouldn't say every team's fans rooted against us in the Finals because I know a lot of hockey fans were sick of the NHL being all over Syd the Kid's nuts the entire postseason.

make your voice heard about bettman

Well they are half responsible for it, the other half goes to the owners. Like I mentioned in my earlier post, since the owners and the players couldn't agree on a CBA there was the lockout which made ESPN not want to offer a TV contract to the NHL to put games on it's station and one of the stations that offered up a deal was OLN/VS. Bettman is NOT the reason for the lack of TV coverage, that blame goes on the lockout.

make your voice heard about bettman

This is the biggest case of monkey see monkey do. Most people they say Bettman, but they don't know why! People ***** about the cap, that wasn't his doing, that was the owners. After the lock-out ESPN lowballed the hell out of the NHL so the NHL signed with VS, now that hockey is becoming semi-popular ESPN wants back in on the action. The NHL has never been more profitable than it is now. The last SC Final was the highest rated SC Final in over five years and even some games rated higher than the NBA finals. And just for the record, I am not a huge Bettman fan at all, but it's easier to look at the negatives that have happened instead of the positives and everyone has to remember that the NHL is a business first a foremost.

Maybe now this is incentive to waive Lebda or Meech to get some much needed cap relief!

    Brunnstrom, don't look now

Basically the Stars are having major cap troubles at the moment and Brunnstrom could find himself in a Bobby Ryan type of situation since he is waiver exempt. Link Neal also needs to play on a regular basis, and that would mean the Stars would have to scratch a player such as Fabian Brunnstrom, an older rookie at 23 who is trying to adapt to his first season of North American hockey after signing with the Stars as an unrestricted free agent in the summer. "Both have proven that they can be NHL players. It's just how quick they can get acclimated and how quick you want to throw them in there," Stars coach Dave Tippett said. Brunnstrom also can go the minors but said he prefers not to. "No, I definitely do not want to go there," he said. "I want to stay here. It's my goal to play here, and I think I need to play here."

Is Stuart the best hitter in this league?

I'd rather be a smart ass than a dumb ass.........contribution ftw!!!

Is Stuart the best hitter in this league?

Show me the video evidence that Datsyuk was drafter by the Wings or actual video of Zetterberg practicing his defense while playing in Sweden. Just because there isn't video evidence doesn't mean it's not true.

    Tuesday practice update

I'd love to see ZDH 1st line then Hossa-Flip-Franzen second line....
  23. I am 99.99% sure he grew up in either Maine or Conneticut or Vermont. But I do know he won the Hobey-Baker for BostonU!
  24. If Roenick wasn't on a sweet SJ team, I bet he would want to. Same thing with Roman Hamrlik. Try and convince Stu Barnes to come back? Convince Martin Straka as well?
