    Filppula signs 5-Year, $15M contract

I suppose I am in the minority with NFM, Lilja is NOT being moved. As a business, managment stand point it would be very stupid to trade a player you just signed or re-signed. Economically it makes sense, but you don't go for the lesser of the two evils on this one to make room for cap space that we don't need. Like has been stated, Big Rig in the AHL frees us up a mil to give us 1.5 or so. Then with trading Lebs or Sammy (for his price and his "role", wouldn't make sense to trade, and I hate Sammy) we will have plenty of cap room.

    Filppula signs 5-Year, $15M contract

Thanks NFM, pulling through as usual, so I'm guesing that you think Big Rig is ready? Cause I hope so too!

    Filppula signs 5-Year, $15M contract

So assuming Cheli isn't able to be re-signed, where do we stand on D? If there is a spot for a blue chip prospect, who fills on that final spot?

    Filppula signs 5-Year, $15M contract

The is pretty much what I called a few days ago 5-6 year deal with a 2.5-3 mil cap hit. Glad that got this deal done before arbitration. Holland and Co. have botched a long term deal yet with young guns and it doesn't look to happen now. Great deal for both sides, but best of all, arbitration was avoided.

    Are we really Hockeytown?

That's supply and demand basics. Football only has to sell tickets to 8 games or so over the course of a year, hockey is 41. Big difference.

    Stop Stanley Cup visits

If I was say Dallas Drake or some other journeyman NHL'r, after I won the cup after 20 years of grueling hockey, i would make sweet love to the Stanley Cup haha

    Zetterberg vs. Iginla poll

"All I know is this...I've seen Zetterberg absolutely dominate Iginla the past few seasons, icluding the '07 playoffs. I've seen Iginla beyond frustrated. I've seen Zetterberg (as well as Datsyuk) be the best players on the ice almost every time Detroit plays Calgary. Is some of that because Detroit is a better team, absolutely. But let's give credit where it's due....Zetterberg is an elite, elite player. Among the best players in the game. This "ZetterbergDatsyuk is overrated" garbage is junk. Zetterberg matched up head to head and outplayed the like of Iginla, Crosby and Thornton over these last two playoff seasons. There is no fluke here." Great post! So if Zata wins heads up against Iginla, that should mean he gets the vote. Man logic is a b*tch. Some people on there really are naive and quite ignorant.

    Zetterberg vs. Iginla poll

All I have to say is to that +/- reference is this: Zetterberg is put out to shut down a teams best line and he still comes out on top in terms of +/- Iginla faces a teams best checking line, he doesn't have to worry about the other team scoring while he is out there because he knows that their line is only out there to stop him. Zetterberg defense>>>>Iginla Defense.

    What's going on with Val?

No no no, i didn't mean that lol. I meant either A) 4.5 over the next two years (2.25 cap hit) more likely or B) A long term contract with a cap hit around 2.5-3 mil a season over a 5-6 year contract (more effective use)

    What's going on with Val?

I didn't say signing Hossa was wrong or incorrect, or at least I didn't mean to imply it. And I don't care who we have out on the ice with a one goal lead, cause we got Lidstrom haha. But I agree with you on that point, but I'm just going to assume that we have most game where we have more than just a one goal lead :-p. Like I said in my first post, I love Hossa but I think the funds could have been allocated more efficiently, but it might not have been as effective. With, or with out Hossa, we won the cup last year and have improved this year. I just get tired of LGW saying let Flip walk if he wants 2 Mil or more a season.

    What's going on with Val?

You have to read the whole thing and it's hard to explain for the most part, but the point was that Hossa will put up how many points this season? 80-90ish about reasonable? Take Flip and Huds, just for example will put up together the same or more. You really have to look at the whole big picture to fully understand and know the foundations of Management and Business Administration along with Sports management to fully utilize and understand the concept I was briefly trying to explain. So I apologize for what seemed to be a shot at Hossa, which i said it wasn't. I tried to quickly describe what my concept was but it obviously needs a lot more explaining, and at which time don't really have the drive or time for lol EDIT: I think Val should get 5-6 years with a cap hit around 2.5-3, but I think he should be signed for 4.5 mil over the course of the next 2 years.

    What's going on with Val?

Well, if you, instead up flaming it up, just read the part after you bolded, you would have your answer. Might I suggest some anger management?

    What's going on with Val?

Val+Hudler+another 2 or 3 million dollar player>Hossa I love Hossa as much as the next guy, but we already have quite a coup of large contracts on the team (Lids, Hossa, Dats) soon to be Hank and Franzen. You won't keep winning with lots of large contracts. I would be ecstatic is we are able to keep Hossa, but losing him after his contract is up is our best option. That'll will free up cap space to re-sign Hank and Franzen. Hossa is an exceptional talent, but we could have used that 7+ mil to lock up Val long term (we need a strong core and depth) plus, as much as I HATE RFA offersheets, lock up a young defensmen for when Lids is no longer able to skate along with add some more scoring depth. Sure big contract players are sexy, but from a business and management stand point they really are a burden if you have too many. But with that said, go Wings and let's keep Stanley where he belongs!

    93 to the rafters!

Not going to lie Opie, you make some awesome points! The only thing I don't completely agree with, is the comparing of Jagr and Fedorov's offensive numbers, because Feds prided himself (I think) on his defensive abilities as well. Times when Jagr could "cheat" and try to get a goal, same holds for Shanny, Fedorov had to make sure he was in a good scoring position along with a sound defensive position as well. Other wise I agree with just about everything else you said, because of your use of sound logic and reasoning and non-bias objection. Like I said, the only "disagreement" was the comparisons to Shanny and mainly Jagr because of the different types of players they were. That is all. End. Period. Done. PS I love Neely too!!!! NHL 94 all the way!!

Chicago County Comissioner Already Trying to Mix It Up

Haha I agree. I thought it was quite humorous in all honesty. That takes some guts and a pretty darn good sense of humor on his part. Sure it lacked some "class" (That word is wayyy overused on these boards), but what a great way to get the Hawk fans geared up! Geez NFM, you sure are getting harassed a lot lately on these boards eh.

If this is your own work, then I fully support it!

have any of you ever written to NHL players?

Actually yes I have. Twice. First person I wrote to was Gordie Howe when I was 10 (22 now) for an interview I had to do for a class. He actually wrote back and sent some signed pictures, a signed hockey puck, and 3 tickets to a Wings game! My mom was surprised that I even got anything back, but he answered all my questions, even the one "What's your favorite sport?" lol. Class act! Second person I worte to was Sergie Fedorov during his hold out and got it sent back saying something to the effect I had to write it to the players mailbox (I sent it to JLA...I was young, I didn't know better lol) or something like that. But Gordie surprised the hell out of me for the things he sent me and the fact he answered like 50 questions!!!

    Hey man, nice shot

Huh? Who thinks it will curse the team, that's pretty absurd. I don't think I have ever heard it on the radio to be honest, and like you said, I only know it from the brawl video lol.

    Jiri Hudler

OHR1 was wrong and I think on just about any other team he'd be at least a second liner, so I think you were dead on with your analysis of him. I use to not be able to stand the little runt, but after this years playoffs I have to begrudgingly accept that he is a very skilled tiny player.

Offseason report card: Champs even stronger

That's so good though! Think about it, when we steam-rolled through a few years back we got bounced easily. And now that our own division keeps on getting stronger and making our inner division games tougher, it helps us out that much more. It's like we were MSU hockey team playing a bunch of scrub club hockey teams. Yeah we dominated, but it was empty domination because once we faced real challenges we faltered. Now we have some Harvards, Michigan Tech, and Ferris varsity teams in our division to make us play at higher levels more frequently.
