Pretty much every viewpoint in this thread is correct. The wings are in-between it all, in "superposition". They could win the cup this year, they could be 25th next season, they could finish the "rebuilding" process and extend the playoff streak, or tank for the next 5 years. It all hangs in the delicate balance.

It was sad to see Dan's smiling face and twinkly eyes when he interviewed and told the cameras that he "loved Detroit so much" and "couldn't play anywhere else" all while this fan community here despises him worse than... worse than... well, Quincey! If only Dan could speak those words knowing what this thread will become.

I watch the suggested lines from respectable members of this community and of course I know what lines Babs rolls. It's awkward that about 90% of the suggestions on the forums are far superior to Babs' lines. There's a lot of talented players on this roster, and not a lot of ways to make lines that scream "WTF?", yet Babs delivers time and time again.

What's weird about Holland is how he turns any suggestions that he disagrees with into an ideological argument. Nobody has suggest Nyquist is "The Answer," we're just flabberghasted that such a special player did not earn a place on this team with such a great performance in last season's playoffs. It's not a matter of men vs kids (wtf lol?) but putting the best players on the ice.

Wtf is he saying "kids aren't the answer"? They are the future of the hockey team. Holland sounds like an old man stuck in history. Also, seems like he is declining cognitively with all the long pauses and "errr..ahhh.oooomm..." Hope the man is alright.

Babs performance: D This team could finish bottom in the division and Babs would still say the same one-liners. We need a new coach or an offensive specialist or something. This team has talented forwards but no system that clicks. Also, Babs randomly changing lines with no rhyme or reason for years seems to impact the players chemistry...

It's a half empty / full thing. I could see this team being 2-3 years away from being close to the bottom of the league.

This is the stupid "fun" word you hear all the time -- "Yeah, we're just going to have fun out thur!!!" But Datsyuk seems to not enjoy himself in the shootouts. Always frowning. In the past when he converted he seemed to be a little more excited.

Well, you could look at these results as growing pains. And also realize that the Wings, even with their troubles, have not been that far off from a stellar record. There are a lot of inexperienced guys on thisroster, and inexperienced guys struggle to play under pressure (aka close tight games). There's a lot of little things missing from this team (Alfie tonight, Nyquist, accountability from the vets, rediuclous line juggling by Babs, disorganized player management by Kenny, etc.) If a few things are corrected (Babs sticks with solid pairings, a vet or two steps up, Nyquist comes...) then that might be enough to push the team over the OT loss hump such that they could start converting these games into two point wins. I don't think the current situation is as grim as it seemed last year when it looked like we wouldn't make the playoffs. Shouldn't this team be "better" than the team last year? Why wouldn't they be? But yeah, I am aghast at the horrible defense by Quincey/Smith, the nonsensical management and coaching, and the lack of overall team effort on most nights. To me things are both horrible and not so horrible at the same time.
