I said Boston would best the Wings in 5 games, if these are the lines, better make it 4.

Abdelkader should be benched in the playoffs., why? In the playoffs he takes so many stupid penalties. And a lot of the time they have been costly. Need proof? In the regular season he a penalty once every 3 games. In the playoffs he averages almost a penalty per game. And it's not like they are the 'he saved a goal and took a penalty' types either. They are 'why the hell would you hold a guy in the neutral zone who is 30 feet from the puck' type penalties.

It's because your argument is nonsense. I was using Reductio ad absurdum to show how bad your argument was, it was a complete non sequitur. Just because I don't share your unrealistically optimistic assesment of Sheahan is only proof I don't share that view and nothing else. Learn proper argumentation. It helps you not look like a complete fool.

Since we can argue by assertion: I bet you never through Yzerman would make the NHL and thought Lidstrom's ceiling was 7th Dman.
-
Sheahan will never be a legit 1C. He slots in to be a 3rd line center on a healthy team. Good defensively, can chip in, but shouldn't be expected to perform above that.

Avs in 6 Blues in 7 Bruins in 5 Tampa in 5 Ducks in 5 Philly in 7 Sharks in 6 Pens in 6 (I am hoping Columbus in 7)

Most of us love playoff hockey, and have a list of teams we want to watch suffer defeat. Most of us will take a moral victory watching the Hawks, Pens and Ducks fail. The question though is who besides the Wings are you rooting for? For me it's the Jackets. They have been little brother for so long, and especially playing Pittsburgh seeing them at least make the second round would be a lot of fun to watch. So besides Detroit who are you rooting for in the first round?

Nyquist, he put the team on his back after Z went down. Without him the team wouldn't be in the position it's in now. Kronwall in my mind had a lukewarm season, not bad, but honestly, aside from points, I felt his play wasn't as good as it could have been especially on the defensive side of the puck. Alfredsson I felt was invisible way too much to be get consideration. Looking at Howard's stats against the back up goalies' stats tells you how bad his season was. That leaves Z. Z was great, but, I sometimes feel that at points this season the team relied too much on him, and they played worse as a unit with him. As s***ty it is to say that, the team actually was better as team after he got hurt, because they couldn't take nights off and let him carry the team.

The Wings are in the same boat, their forward core are all well past 30 and to say the Wings are in a transitional stage seems to fly in the face of facts. Going after Weiss and Legwand at the expense of youth is evidence Holland is in a win-now mode.
-
How could Detroit get the Rangers? The only possible way would have been if they were 4-5, and that's impossible because Columbus, Tampa, and Philly would all have to lose out, and that can't happen since Columbus plays Tampa.
-
You can think Nyquist is a better player, but you would be wrong. Ryan has had better seasons when he was much younger than Nyquist. Ryan was hampered by the fact he had a groin injury which is why Nyquist has had better numbers this season, but if I could take either right now on an even swap it would be Ryan 10/10 times.

Okay people keep forgetting that Boston doesn't play the same in the post season as they do in the regular season. In the regular season they play a more open fast pace hockey, as soon as the post season starts they become team obstruction. The Wings don't match up well against a big team that will force them to go through their team to get into the offensive zone. That and unlike Flower, Rask is completely capable of carrying the Bruins any night they decide not to show up.

Bruins would manhandle the Wings. So the Pens, without question

GDT 4/9 GDT - Red Wings 3 @ Pens 4 (SO). Wings clinch playoff spot!

Keeping the loser point is also pretty bush-league. -
He's starting to mature, but you have to remember, he's 26, it's not like he's an old man. He was thrust into the spot light at the age some people still need their moms to wake them up to get to high school.

Lightning sign GM Yzerman to contract extension

My issue with him isn't his past. My issue is he seems to be very complacent. It happens to the best of them, but, sometimes it's best for both parties to move on. -
I hope McCann falls.

He's only been GM for the last 15 years or so, not the last 22. -

If he was brought in for a complete three zone game than Holland should be fired on the spot, his defense since he joined the Wings hasn't been even a shade of what it was in Nashville. The Wings brought him in after it was announced that Dats would be shutdown for 3 weeks+ and Holland justified it in interviews as a move to bolster the offensive depth at center. -
I think Roy and Ken Hitchcock both are deserving this year.

What was Legwand brought to do? To replace scoring depth at center. Has Legwand produced more than what was sent in return for him? Quantitatively? Yes, qualitatively? No. As such if Jarnkrok only plays 4 more games at this pace and never plays again at this level for the rest of his career one can still qualify the trade an overpayment just on the merit of what was gained vs what was lost. There is also the matter of the 2nd round pick that they sent over which I haven't even brought up. Also since we are talking stats, Legwand has 2 PP points, and is -8, we can make that -6, which would be evidence he's not that great of a three zone center since he got here. Also just from watching him he hasn't looked like the defensive stalwart you are making him out to be, his defense seems subpar at best. -

Holy strawman, if you're going to try to sound intelligent instead of snarky don't put words into my mouth. And while you're right 8 games isn't huge, usually the transition into the NHL is the point where it is hardest to produce. All that being said, had the Wings used Jarnkrok over the same period of time it looks like they would be in the same position as they are now. Also if you look at it since Legwand has come to Detroit he has been worse than he was in Nashville by almost a tenth of a point or about a 15% drop in production. -

After the Legwand deal Holland needs to be canned, but I guess the dream of Stevie coming to replace him is a pipe dream now. FYI since joining the Wings Legwand: .56 ppg Jarnkrok .75 ppg -
Another bottom 6 on a team with 12 bottom 6ers, yay!
