    2013 NHL Entry Draft Discussion

I think the consensus is that the order of reliability goes TSN>Sportsnet>Free Press>Mlive>Random poster on LGW>Eklund>>>>>ESPN. Sorry but ESPN is literally bottom of the barrel when it comes to hockey coverage.

So you pick the two groups who know nothing about hockey.

The issue is that the Wings reached their 2 #2 picks and got one player that could be something, and one player that if he makes it in to the AHL his career will be a success.

Of course Nill gets Nishuskin. He's big, great hands, and perfect for Dats' wing.

1 million times this. This team needs to pick up someone that is young.

Wings looking to trade before using buyouts

Well if the SCF over the last couple years shows us anything, the East's model doesn't fair too well.

    Howard a top 6-8 goalie?

I consider elite to be top 2-3 goalies in the league, and usually not flash in the pans either, long term success goes into being elite or else Eliot/Mason/Nemi/etc would be 'elite' because they had one or two good season then faded.

    Howard a top 6-8 goalie?

14th in GAA and 13th in Sv% last season, 15th in GAA and 22nd in Sv% in 2011-2012 worse in 2010-2011. He's better than replacement level, but hes not elite.

    Howard a top 6-8 goalie?

Howard is not top ten, hes top 15, but he's not top 6-8 for sure.
  19. Yeah, his one goal in the Chicago series when they were already up 3-1 in that game in the 3rd really was a difference maker. You can be almost as bad as Eva was.
  20. The only two beat writers that are commonly quoted tend to keep away from this news. Khan because hes extra careful, and St James because shes just a terrible terrible writer.
  21. First off, he's not even top 3 on the team as best skaters, Helm, Nyquist and Datsyuk have him beat. Second one year where he gets 23 goals and had 66 points once doesn't mean that he will ever do it again. Jonathan Cheechoo had a 56 goal season. Look at where he's at now.
  22. wait what? He is one of the weakest, physically, skaters on the team. He gets knocked on his ass basically every shift. And he was okay, but, he like Crymson pointed out, was invisible a lot this year, and now he wants 5.5 million? He sure thinks hes Pavel Zetterberg.
  23. Fil also had what is looking like a fluke year (11-12) and is asking to be paid like it was a normal season for him. His skill set and where he would sit on the depth chart puts him at about 3.5 million given how much the cap has gone down and his expected production. As for what his role is, I am hard pressed to say I know what it is, hes an okay top 6 winger, a sub-standard top 6 center, and an above average #3 center. His defense is above average, but not exceptional, his ability to hit/use his body is poor, his skating is average, his playmaking is above average, but again, not exceptional, and hes too pass first for him to be called anything but a blow average goal scorer. He is, and always was, completely replaceable.
  24. Because they have Kesler who is a real 40 goal forward on their second line. He would take all the pressure off of Flip.
  25. I think 3 years was pretty much perfect given his level of play. After that I see him piecemealing contracts a year at a time like Lidstrom.
