  1. Can't trade him for 1 year after the inking date, so, they would be on the hook for a lot of cash they seem unwilling to pay, so don't count on that.
  2. So what if they have two long term contracts? They don't have a #1 or #2 D-man, they have an amazing #3 D-man, 2 guys who are 3-4 D-men, an over paid #5 d-man and 2 kids, one who has been mediocre, the second who has yet to prove anything as a top 4 D-man in the NHL. In the league today you don't get a #1 d-man without giving them a lengthy contract. If they don't gamble on a player that fills a massive hole on the roster, they should fully expect to be the next Calgary Flames.
  3. Salary dump? That's Panthers music!
  4. Again as I have pointed out, Polie could want to match, but if you knew anything about Nashville's ownership you'd know why they keep losing their stars. Their ownership can't/won't pay that much for a player, there is no way if the Wings made this offer, or an offer a little higher that the Preds COULD match it.
  5. IF Detroit got Weber there is no way they would be a bottom feeder team to collect those high round picks, so your point is null, look at how terrible some of our first round picks have been, McCollum is Manny Legacy 2.0, Sheahan has underachieved since being drafted, Kindl is playing like trash, the only one we have that is decent is Smith, and Weber>>>>>>>>>>>>Smith.
  6. And look how much good its done? First the fact hes going after Yandle or Weber is a massive sign of desperation on his end. He hasn't done one thing to really improve this team since 08, and now other teams of course are going to make him pay out of the nose to get someone. He made a massive error in the last few seasons not properly preparing this team for its post Lidstrom years, and now we all pay. Also this team is closer to a lottery team than you probably want to admit.. If Z has his usual January stint on the DL, and Kronner gets his pre-Christmas groin pull/knee tweak, the lack of depth in the D and the top 6 will come back to bite the wings.
  7. Its not Polie's call if they match it, rival or not, its the ownership, and that 20 million dollars Weber will be looking at next season that will dictate what they do. I could see if this were an offer south of 100 million, and less years, but the ownership of Nashville has shown time and time again they are afraid of long term financial commitments. I know you are a Ken Holland apologist, but lets be serious for a moment, we both know that Nashville has had the space to keep a lot of their stars, but they haven't, because of the tight purse strings of their ownership. And this would be a bold move, and even if it failed it would have been a good one, because they will not be able to afford other players had they matched. But it as I said every time the Wings names come up they are always off the mark and lose out.
  8. Their defense isn't worth us making a run at aside from Schenn, who they wouldn't trade. Next, even if the Preds have a terrible D without Weber, that doesn't magically make Detroit a better team, and Nashville has in the past made a lot out of a little, they have 3 very good d prospects in their system that are NHL ready. But that post wasn't just about Weber anyway, it seems all offseason hes a day late and a dollar short, instead of making a bold move, it seems hes content with taking this team into next season come hell or high water, and that's my problem.
  9. The problem is Holland is getting burned by being too conservative with his moves, and in doing so he's letting the team decline instead of taking a risk and possibly making a wrong move. There's an old saying 'Action is always better than inaction'.
  10. Unless its more than Suter is making its still an insult to us fans, if Suter is worth close to 7.6 million than Weber is worth ball park of 8.
  11. The insult to injury part of this is that in spite of loss draft picks (look at the last 4 season 1st rounders the Wings have, compare them to Weber), is that his cap hit is lower than Suter's.

    Could trade rumors spark Franzen?

Trades are no fun, he wants to have fun.
  13. This was settled pre-arbitration actually.
  14. To put this in perspective, his cap hit percent last season was 5.2% of the total cap next season he will have a 5.3% percentage cap hit. This is a minor raise.
  15. Looking 2 years at 3.75 a year. Not too bad anyway.

Doan staying in PHX 4 yrs $21.2 mill

the problem is the reduction is proportional to the drop in the cap, therefore, it'll still take up the same percentage of cap.

I'd either sign him for one season at a relatively high cap hit (5-6) or 2+ for a low hit (3-3.5). Not high cap hit and a lot of seasons.
  18. Also it doesn't differentiate between high percentage shots and low percentage shots. Facing 40 low percentage shots is a whole different animal than facing 20 high percentage shots.

I still don't see that, the owners are businessmen and they know that they lost a lot of good will with the fans the last lockout, another lockout they may as well trade their NHL teams for WNBA teams.
  20. If Howard played as well as Rinne did with the lack of scoring they would still be playing game one right now.
  21. If it hasn't been pointed out, the difference in the series was lack of goal scoring depth. The top 4 forwards on the Wings were pretty much canceled out and the rest of the forwards couldn't put a beach ball through a barn door.

First, Quick was good, but without that trade they wouldn't have made the playoffs. Second, Nashville got beat because of their lack of experience in the post season, Phoenix were veterans compared to them, and they played like it. Finally: There WILL NOT be another lockout, both sides know that it will kill the NHL if they have another lock out so soon. Both sides will go in with big demands, but count on the new CBA to look a lot like the current one with some of the loophole closed. If the cap goes down, expect all contracts to be adjusted accordingly, there will not be a gush of talent on the market after the new CBA.

Yea look at Nashville, they beat the Wings, and got one round further than the Wings. And of course you didn't mention the big trade last season that LA was involved in... look where they ended up...
  24. Again, this is all well and good, but, still way too many "IFS" for it to be anything more than a very optimistic assessment of the team. There is a real possibility this team finishes on the outside looking in, as I keep explaining, they are not a lock for the playoffs, just like they are not a lock for missing them.
