id perfer someone younger, this is a lateral move... Same as keeping Lilja just a Canadian name instead of Swedish

Because im tired of Holland going for washed up players/red wing retreads

The Hawks have 2 good lines and one 1.5 defensive pairings. Ask Tampa the last few years how well that works out... Hossa has proven in the last few post season (the season with the Pens more and more seems like the exception not the norm) hes a playoff no show. So when the hawks get into the playoffs next season they have 1.5 good lines. Now what happens when a team throws their best defensive players against Kane, and Toews has no one to finish for him? Secondary scoring wins cups, its been proven in spades in the last 3 years (Sammy in 08, Talbot in 09 Bolland and Versteeg this year proved this).. teams just cant win in the playoffs with a couple good lines.

I guess the wings made an offer to Lilja around 1 million 1 year

Please god not here

Worst contract of the day award is still going to Toronto taking Armstrong at 3 mil. Just wait till he blindsides someone and gets suspended, hes the perfect person for the league to make an example of.

Madden won't be back, its pretty much for sure... Not the most offensive player, but great guy nonetheless.

Only elite players you have is Kane and Keith . Toews, Hossa, and Seabrook are all above average but not elite. As for your minor league system, NHL scouts consider Detroit's farm system to be stronger than Chicagos.

Ok, just a quick reality check: Prospects mean jack s*** till they prove they can cut it in the NHL. So don't count your chickens.

We have 5 million free and don't have to be under the cap till end of training camp, I vote we pick up another top 6 guy and make things interesting.

POS or Tanguay

Alex Tanguay at 1.8? Anyone?

the wings are deep on centers, as for winning faceoffs, it'd probably be easier if the linesmen were ******* fouls and didn't single out detroit for some faceoff cheating that every other teams does just as much.

I'm calling you retarded because you'd pass on a high level offensive prospect for a slow, fighter who can't score in the first round. The wings are hurting for scoring talent in their system, and taking this risk seems smart to me, as should the odds play out and he decided to come to the NHL for high level competition or the KHL continues to collapse (and it is) than the wing get a top 5 player with a 21st overall pick.
-
I didn't say there was no risk, I acknowledged the risk but counter that with humans you always have risks. I wasnt talking about Kabanov, I was thinking of Valdimir Tarasenko, who has a top 5 skill set, but could easily fall because of the risk. He is ranked 10 spots for skill over your guy, but there is risk. But ive seen your guy both low and high on lists depending on how they are evaluated, for pure skill hes getting beaten to the outside, has no offensive upside, and can't skate well, that screams 4th to 6th defensemen to me, and the wings don't need that.
-
Ok I understand you are retarded, I have learned to live with this fact, but just because a player is european/russian doesn't mean he will goto the KHL one day. Should the Wings write off every european player just because they might go to the KHL one day? s*** man, players make weird decisions everyday, there was a baseball player who became a priest, despite the fact he was a great prospect, and what about Pat Tillman who was a professional football player who decided to go into the army? It doesn't matter where you are from, you can always decide to do something else. Why are you so high on Mcilrath? Hes really not top 25... if the wings go after a defender they need someone who will be a 1-3 not a 4-6, and this guy stinks of bottom pairing defender.

Ya tip ins are easy, thats why Homer is such a common player in this league
-
Smith could fill Rafi, as for Nick.. thats just not fair... we can draft D men #1 overall for years in a row and still never fill those skates.
-
our first, Flip for their first and Rostislav Olesz.
-
I keep saying the most movable contract they have is Hossa's they can move him, get prospects, picks and probably won't have to take too much salary back.
-
The best thing they could have done is parted with one of those first line/first paring D men, and been a little weaker in the top line and been deeper through their roster.
-
The wings aren't hurting for 4-6 spot forwards or 3/4 Dmen, we need someone who will step up when Dats and Z start to fade. We don't have a great player in the system that we can all look to and say 'this is our blue chip forward prospect' so I still believe thats what the wings need to look for, even if there is a chance they get burned. You don't win cups without some risk.

"A look at some draft doings over the past 25 years," Wings gi

Best string of first-round picks -- Pittsburgh Penguins, 2000-06 The core of the Penguins' revival has come in a seven-year string of first-rounders that's hard to beat. In a seven-year stretch, the Penguins grabbed Sidney Crosby (2005) and Evgeni Malkin (2004), both of whom already have won multiple trophies, as well as Cup-winning goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury (2003), shut-down center Jordan Staal (2006) and rugged defenseman Brooks Orpik (2000). They also picked defenseman Ryan Whitney (2002) and center Colby Armstrong (2001), a solid NHL player who was a key chip in the trade for Marian Hossa that helped get the Penguins to the 2008 Final before winning the Cup a year later. I laughed hard at these... so many no brainer choices here that it makes me almost sick to my stomach. -
Anything in the late first round has one of two potentials either high risk/high reward or solid second line/flashes of first line potential, but not a possible super star. If you go for the first, you could bust out and lose them, but they could become superstars too. The wings don't have anyone in the system right now who has true star potential and i believe they should take this risk.

Well with Holland wanting players to wait 3 to 5 years and his commitment to be in the KHL only being for the next couple years, and the KHL being comparable to the AHL I would say this isn't that bad of a thing for the wings.
