    Should Valtteri Filppula be traded?

I think you'll see a trade long before you see these lines, no way ZDH will be a fixture in Detroit after the break.

    Should Valtteri Filppula be traded?

Zetterberg is a better Center than Flip, no ifs, ands or buts about it.

    Should Valtteri Filppula be traded?

I had a 3rd going back to Detroit, forgot to add that in. Lebda is in there just because the wings need to lose his salary.

    Should Valtteri Filppula be traded?

The problem is that our goal scoring is too concentrated. Teams can easily shut down the Wings best lines. Homer is on the decline. Cleary may or may not score 20 goals any season, last year he had 14. Detroit needs another pure goal scorer, in my opinion.

    Should Valtteri Filppula be traded?

Yea, I see Zetterberg and Datsyuk are both lighting the lamps night in and out.

    Should Valtteri Filppula be traded?

Well, the argument is that Detroit is hurting for Goal scorers not playmakers and since flip is definitely not a goal scorer if a trade was made we'd move out an asset that would warrant good return.

    Pre-Olympic Trade Deadline Talk

Talent report on Olesz: A player without any glaring weakness, Olesz is a character guy who gives everything to the team's success. He is offensively talented, well-balanced and always showing a nasty edge in his play. Olesz plays a combative style and is a good hitter. He is a valuable asset to both powerplay and penalty killing units. A solid skater with a decent agility, Olesz impresses with his excellent lower-body strength. He has a sharp hockey sense and vision. Also very good in the faceoff circle, Olesz emerges as both a smart passer and a strong finisher. He possesses a good variety of shots, he could only fire the puck more often. Olesz impresses with his strong defensive awareness, he limits the opposing players' options effectively. A mature player, he doesn't tend to take shifts off. As I keep saying, if I were the GM I would definitely try to send Flip to Florida for this kid.

Flip is a good player, as I keep saying, hes got a great skill set, but its wasted on the wings if hes not a 2nd line center, which, so long as we have Dats and Z, he should never be a second line center.

Last year Flip had a .45 PPG, he was on a more talented team and has more time in the NHL right now. This is a now/future deal, this guy is a real deal kind of player who can put it into the net. Id definitely love to have a player like him in the system now, you can never have enough big bodied goal scorers.

Rostislav Olesz and a 3rd to Detroit Flip and Lebda and a 4th to Florida I think this would be a great deal, its pretty much an even swap Flip for Olesz and we get rid of lebda. Rostislav Olesz is the next Franzen from what ive seen, hes big and has good hands, and in this league you cant have enough of that.

    Pre-Olympic Trade Deadline Talk

Its a horrible idea to keep them together, I will say this again the #1 reason why Detroit isn't scoring is because our offensive threats are too concentrated on the first line and to a lesser extent the second. When as an opposing coach I set my matchups with Detroit its too easy to decide where to put my best Defensemen and my best shut down players. They can shutdown Detroit two best offensive players then not have to sweat too much of a 2nd/3rd line scoring threat. Breaking up Dats and Z forces the opposition to make a choice, do I focus on one or the other? and when they do that one, one of the two all of the sudden has a lot more room to make stuff happen. Hence why its better to split them up. What Detroit needs is one more big Goal scoring threat. I keep saying we should look at Rostislav Olesz, he reminds me a lot of Franzen, hes a big body with good hands.

Easy, as of right now, split up Zetterberg and Datsyuk and all of the sudden Flips value drops dramatically for Detroit, he loses the talent around him he needs to be a true offensive threat, and if he plays wing on either of those lines his defensive abilities are not as important, as the center has the most defensive responsibility on any line. The only way he is worth all 3 million of his contract is when hes a 2nd line center.

Heres the rationale: Flip represents the best, most replaceable, most movable asset on Detroit's roster right now. No way the Wings move Franzen/Z/Dats/Lids/Rafi/Kronner and most everyone else wouldn't give Detroit the same return Flip would. His cap hit is decent as compared to his production and hes still young. Hence why hes the best trade bait the Wings have for a decent return.

    Jiri Hudler update

He'd be equal to or better than the pace Flips on.

Yea but when Maltby and Draper are our 3rd line, he would definitely be an improvement over either of them. As for his totals, I think he'd had 40 pts at this point this season, hes clutch.
