i disagree, actually. i think it would have been really embarrassing to get swept out in the second round, but we've proven three games in a row that we don't back down no matter what. even though the end result is the same, there's something a lot different about getting swept and taking a team down to their last line of defense. i guess it goes back to the whole debate between the "winning the cup is the only important thing" camp and the "i love the sport, love the team, and enjoy the games -- winning would be nice but it's not everything every year" camp. also, i'm not sure if i want the wings to win in a blowout or a close/OT game. blowout would be much better on the blood pressure, but close/OT game would be incredibly exciting. i'll go somewhere inbetween and predict a 4-2 wings win, with san jose scoring their second goal late in the third to make it close....but not that close.

interesting. ultimately has no bearing on the game itself, of course, but it is an interesting pattern. i remember hearing when the wings went down 3-0 that there was a 1.8% chance of them winning the series. now that it's 3-3, it's weird because there's obviously more than a 1.8% chance of them winning this game, but by winning the game, they would have beaten those crazy odds. another trend that i think doesn't favor the wings is that the sharks have gone 0-10 on the powerplay in the last three games. now, while that might seem like a good thing (and it is/was for those games) it's hard to believe they're going to continue to struggle in yet another game with the man advantage. still, all we have to do is shut out their pp for ONE game, not four, even though by doing so in this game we will have shut them down for four straight games, which would seem highly unlikely. it's like flipping a coin that comes up heads nine times in a row. it seems very unlikely that it would come up heads ten times in a row, making it SEEM unlikely that it will come up heads the tenth time, but really the chances are still 50/50.

man, i really hate that guy. and i don't think it's a, "i hate him because he always plays so good against our team," kind of hatred. he is a very talented player, but i can't stand the cheap shot artist + whiner combination. in that video from last year's game, i love how he obviously goes out of his way to hit homer after the whistle and is immediately whining to the refs. what a punk.

daniels going absolutely bonkers. love it. had to listen to the game on the radio at work, but still an amazing game. can't wait for game seven. not to be negative after such a great win, but here's something we've all been talking about put into numbers. Game 1: 4-minutes for high-sticking, 2:43 of OT Game 4: 2-minutes for cross-checking, 11:35 of period 3 Game 5: 2-minutes for elbowing, 14:55 of period 3 Game 6: 2-minutes for holding, 13:14 of period 3 This series: -3, 16 PIM, no points This playoffs: -4, 26 PIM, no points guess whose stats these are! although, one could make the argument that we've won every game when abdelkader has taken a dumb third-period goal, and lost every one he hasn't (game one obviously being in overtime). so, if we're up by a goal late in the game on thursday, i'd argue we need to send abby out there and slash people until he takes a penalty. guaranteed victory.

i have to listen to most of these games on the radio at work...stupid night shift. anyway, amazing game. i was fist-pumping the air while listening to the game-winning goal...i'm sure people thought i was a little weird. just a few picks from the GDT. i posted about this in the "Howard..." thread -- i feel like that's happened to the wings so many times, where they've outshot the opponent by like twenty shots, and yet their goalie has a .930 save percentage and ours has a .840 save percentage. it's nice to be on the other side of that s*** for once. yeah, i never want to be the slap-happy fan that always sees the bright side only to get crushed, but i think a LOT of us felt like we were out of it after that early third-period goal to make it 3-1 sharks. plus, they were talking about how neimi gives up goals in the first, less in the second, and almost none in the third. plus, there was always the fear of one bad PK, which has plagued us in these playoffs. to jimmy's credit, and to our PK's credit, and to the whole team's credit, they kept fighting even when a lot of us had given up on them. i'm wondering if you meant "drive" and not "dive." i didn't get to watch the game; had to listen on the radio at work. but, if you meant "dive," i'm curious what you're talking about. if you meant "drive," i think i know what you're saying.

from one angle, it looked like kronner's elbow was up, but from the side angle it seemed pretty clear that his elbow just came up after he was already separated from clowe in his follow through. i think that happens a bit with kronner, where he sort of "explodes" into the hit and his arms come up after the shoulder check, but it can look like he's getting his elbow up. or maybe i'm just a total homer. nice to see kronner doing what we all know he can do, but seems to do so sparingly.

the mob is a fickle mistress, as they say. however, i don't think it's totally unreasonable that we've been up and down on his play this/last year -- he's been great at times, but there is absolutely no question that he had some real stinkers during the regular season. there were weeks-long stretches where he was giving up one or often two soft goals almost every single game. i don't know him, so i don't know if it's a confidence thing, an energy thing, or just a good-game/bad-game sorta thing. but it's certainly been a tale of two jimmys. also, how awesome is it to finally be on the winning end of a game where the losing team massively outshoots the winning team and the winning goalie just plays out of his mind, while the losing goalie has a sub-.850 save percentage. it seems like that happens to us all the time in the playoffs, that we get a million shots and still lose, and it's nice to be on the other end of it for once! edit: grammar

like others have said, abby's taken some dumb penalties, but fortunately it didn't cost us game five, and it would be really, really tough to take him out of the lineup. i don't see how you skate franzen at this point. even if he's feeling better, he has not been himself and we can't risk him getting re-injured in the first period and being down a forward for most of the game. our PK has been brutal, and miller helps out there a lot. with how s***ty huds has been, and how s***ty our PK has been, miller's got to stay in. didn't babs say something in the presser about miller being one of our best PK forwards? in theory, we have enough scoring depth that losing hudler's offensive potential (which he hasn't even nearly lived up to this series) is well worth the trade-off for an upgrade to the PK. unless mule is fully one-hundred percent, miller/modano in, hudler/franzen out seems like the only option.

my god, i can't count the number of times i screamed "clear the bleeping puck!" at the TV tonight.

i would have said that, too. but the enemy of my enemy is my...well, not friend, but i guess...less hated enemy? although it would be satisfying to beat san jose. it would also suck dick to lose to them.
-
nucks win: we face san jose. hawks win: we face nashville. go...hawks?
-
well, balls.

OT potential elimination game! love playoff hockey. thought for the break: why are you guys up at 12.40 EDT watching hockey and posting on LGW? i work third shift but have tonight off, so it's like the middle of the day to me right now. happy to have this game go to OT so i have more hockey to watch. what are you guys up to?
-
yeah. i want the kings to win, but if they score on this PP i would feel the bitching by sharks fans will be justified.
-
yup yup yup! i don't have much invested in this game (other than of course wanting to see the sharks choke again) but this is why playoff hockey is amazing! one team trying to stay alive, one trying to move on. five minutes! wow...don't think that should be a five min call....
-
nice clear handzus.

them and the ducks always seem to get in our heads for some reason. the whole "size" factor, i guess...though if mule, bert, helm and abby play to their potential, i think we could go toe-to-toe with them physically. but, yeah, i'd love to avoid the sharks.
-
huge pk here.
-
scores! question: is this board rooting so much for LA because we hate the sharks or because we don't want to play them? i'd say both, but more so for the first reason.
-
dumb penalty on demers. big PP here.

nice snipe by heatley. uh-oh.
