WCQF Game 5 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Predators 2

So if Pittsburgh hangs on and this s***show plays out, the Wings are the first team to go home. That's what a historic home streak and enough cap space to acquire just about any contract in the league gets you. Well played Holland, well played...

WCQF Game 5 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Predators 2

Please don't go out like this. Win this, win game 6 at The Jos and force Game 7. Filppula finally shows up, that's my only prediction.

    What's Kenny Holland's Offseason Plan?

Maybe they get lucky and Cleary goes the Rafalski route and hangs them up for health reasons? Though he has been playing his ass off in this series so it makes me believe that he still has the desire to play. Just a thought.

    Trade Zets /Dats and Franzen

Or they should tank it for a decade and pile up top picks like the Caps, Pens and Hawks. No. They have a solid group of veteran players such as 2 out of 3 in the title of this thread that they can build around if they play their cards right.

    Nashville and this series.

3-1 isn't the end of the world, but let's face it, the team knows it, we know it... They're lifeless. Aside from the Weber hit and non-suspension, Nashville showed up and the Wings continued their bad play down the stretch. The bad officiatting went both ways. While losing to "little brother" sucks, this series was decided at the deadline when Nashville actually took the initiative to make moves and build on their potential. The Wings chose not to and it bit them. As hard as it is to admit, Nashville is the better team right now from top to bottom. I won't root for them by any means, but I just wanted to give them credit where it is due. Here is your wake up call, Wings Brass, the rest of the league has officially caught up to you.

Time to start looking for a new coaching staff

I say he gets another season and a better hand dealt to him via FA/trades. I get the whole "what have you done for me lately" mentality, but he has proven what he can do with a solid, deep, gritty team ('08) referencing to the '07 offseason post above. Holland however needs a change of philosophy. What he has done and what he is doing now isn't working anymore. Parise or bust.

    Nashville and this series.

That, too. They were built to make some noise but this Wings team is far from an obsticle. I don't call them contenders but is anyone really sold on anyone is the West at this point?

WCQF Game Four GDT : Predators 3 at Red Wings 1

This series is just a combination of bad play and bad luck. Remember a week ago when everyone was up in arms because all of the analysts picked Nashville in 7? Who knew. I'd say being on July 1, but I'm afraid that it will be as lackluster as this season was down the stretch. This organization has gotten too comfortable and complacent over the years. Time to do something bold...

At least they showed up for the first two periods tonight.

    Lidstrom

I'm sure it's quite obvious that Lidstrom has been all but non-existent in this series. We all know that he is still hampered by his ankle injury and wouldlikely be missing more time to nurse it if not for the playoffs. He is not playing on the all important PK, has been lacking on the offensive side and has been effective on 5-on-5 but nothing spectacular. This isn't a headhunting thread but this season and series has been a kick in the face that the end may be sooner than later. While he started out strong he slowed down later in the season and missed a rare significant amount of time with an injury. What does be look at when he decides it he's going to keep this thing going? He's still playing at a high level and warrants respect every time he's on the ice not only because of his play but because of the name on the back of his jersey. He's done all there is to do and will go down as one of the all time greats. Looking at the last few seasons, particularly this one, this team is closer to taking a step back than contending. I know he's not going to make a knee jerk decision like us fans, but what are your thoughts in his decision making in the offseason?

#5 Philadelphia Flyers vs. #4 Pittsburgh Penguins

I just saw the Crosby post-game interview, how embarrassing. "I don't like anyone on that team." "what was i supposed to do? Hand him his glove?" It sounded like a ten year old. This is the face of the NHL and the captain of his squad? That dude pretty much solidified everyone's notion that he is indeed a little *****. Though I don't wish anything long term on the guy, but I wouldn't mind seeing him get his ass kicked pretty good a couple times.

    Lidstrom

I'll make sure that I wait until the middle of August to start a discussion. It's unreasonable to think that someone may be thinking about something that isn't an immediate reaction to a game that happened the same day. They could have won 10-0 and I would have asked the same thing. It's something I've been thinking about for a week or two. Moderator - this thread has been derailed and is going nowhere. Please ditch it. I'm totally on the level of Mindfly, Stinky and Leonard...

    Lidstrom

I guess I didn't do a good job articulating what I wanted to say. Nick seems to be one who expects nothing but the best out of himself. He has rarely been hampered by injuries in his career. He is 40 years old and missed a chunk of time due to an injury, this injury has kept him from his full potential in the playoffs this year. He's a super human, but he's getting to that age where things get significantly harder. He is someone who has accomplished everything there is to do and could step away at this second and not regret anything. This question had nothing to do with the current state of the team, the management or anything else like that. It has to do with what he expects of himself and if his age is finally catching up to him and at what point does he decide that he's not playing at a level that he thinks is acceptable.

    Lidstrom

Ok. I totally called him out by provoking a discussion that I guarantee just about every Wings fan has on their mind on. Heaven forbid someone acknowledge that he's not going to play until he's 75 and try to see what everyone's thoughts are on the situation based on some of the out of the normal things that happens this season. People like you are the reason that 75% of the people who used to frequent this board in the last few years... How's that for a call out, super fan?
  15. dats13owns

    Lidstrom

Please don't lump me in with the doom and gloomers, I assure you that this thought goes beyond losing one game. It's funny how anytime anyone has something not completely positive to say around here people like you have to question peoples ideas and accuse others of being bad fans and bandwagoners. Thanks for the input, though, it was definitely pertinent to this discussion.
  16. dats13owns

    Lidstrom

I'm with you on this one. Lids has done everything there is to do, while everyone ultimately plays for the same reason, he's a smart company man and understands how the business is run. It's not like he's a 20 year veteran that a Cup has always eluded. His decision will come down to his desire to play at a level that he feels is comprible. It has nothing to do with the front office that has treated him and everyone else like Kings.
  17. dats13owns

    Lidstrom

The PK has been nothing short of fantastic. Ten out of Ten times, you want him on the PK. Typically you see Lids step up and do something big to spark the team in these situations. We haven't seen it yet The main thought of this thread is does be want to go out on top or does he want to inevitably regress into a shell of what he once was. The dude loves hockey but he seems like he's more family oriented. I don't see him neglecting that just to stay on the ice.

WCQF Game Three GDT : Predators 3 at Red Wings 2

Game 1 V2.0. Just end this series. I hate writing these guys off, but even if they miraculously survive this series they don't have 3 more rounds left in them. I can't wait for Holland to do nothing in the offseason and spit out a million excuses as to why. Prove me wrong on both, please.
