That was about the worst 4 or 5 minutes of hockey i've ever watched. The wings pretty much just stood around and watched the game happen in the last 5 mins of the 3rd. Worst. Game. Ever.

I hate that "tootoo" whistle. It's like the mom in peewee hockey that brings that loudass cow bell.

well, the pic they replaced the black dude pic with is an ancient picture. look at how old that jersey is that he's wearing. and i could be mistaken, but do i see an "A" on the front of that jersey??

if you are going to quote rules, maybe you should read what you are quoting. The play left the zone then came back in when avery scored the goal. 2nd, the rule states if a goal is scored on such a play, the goal should be disallowed. The goal was not scored on the same play. It also doesn't provide for a "goaltender interference" penalty based on the rule you quoted. And also, while avery's arms/stick may have been "above the crease" his body certainly was nowhere near the crease. If refs start calling goaltender interference for any activity near the crease that happens to obstruct the view or the concentration of the goalie, then we are going to have a 3rd "new nhl" and the penalties are about to get 10x as stupid. There is no way for a ref to police traffic in front of the net unless actual contact is made. The day penalties start getting applied when no contact is made (i know they already call it like that, but thats not what the actual rules say), then thats the day that players like holmstroms careers die. Next time homer gets called for something infront of the net, don't start complaining. Was Avery onboxious? hell yes. Should he have been penalized in any way shape or form? hell no. I'd hate to see where it would take officiating if the refs start determining what types of motions a player can make in front of a goalie.

I thought it was awesome. Avery is awesome. I like Brodeur as a goalie, but what a better way to get inside a goalie's head?? If the NHL does something and tries to make refs go after play like this, or if they fine or suspend Avery, i will be truly pissed. This goes along with trash talk and face to glove washes as far as i'm concerned. You pull stuff like this to get under your opponents skin. It always has happened and always will happen, although the form may change.

Well, considering the absolutely insane defense of Pronger by Brian Burke, It just proves that Pronger as well as the rest of the team are there to do just that, give out cheap shots. Brian Burke emboldened him and essentially geave him the go ahead to take cheap shots in the finals. Brian Burke's defense of his "hit" on holmstrom solidified to me what kind of team this is to put such people in leadership positions. The next logical step is to give Pronger the captain position. The ducks obviously have no qualms about messing someones face up, or giving concussions to other players. Quite the opposite it seems to be a resume enhancement. Get suspended for cheap shots and you're on the fast track to a leadership position.

I agree as well. The older jerseys that can be pulled over someones head are the best. I couldn't imagine playing hockey in something as restricting as that.. It also just looks flat out stupid. This isn't roller hockey. Nashville-like jerseys are the anti-thesis of a good hockey jersey. I agree with you as well. I think the old-time jerseys look the best. I kind of like how Vancouver is using their old design and came up with a newer jersey with the older design with the old "C" on it. Other teams need to take a look at this and learn from it as well as respect their heritage.

Looking at the schedule, it looks like crap. I guess playing garbage teams like the Blackhawks, Blues and Blue jackets 8x each pads our stats, but it doesn't make our team any better. We need a challenge like playing those teams less and playing east coast teams more. The new way of scheduling sucks. I didn't mind it much before last season, until it happened. But this coming year looks like nothing but garbage. I think every team should play each other at least once. I think that if the league mandates we play particular teams then we should get breaks in salary cap, or in other ways as well, since they essentially decide how much our team travels in a given year. i guarantee detroit travels as much or more than most of the other teams out there. Detroit has to be a hard city to play in (as a detroit player) because of that fact.

i watched most of the finals and most of the crap went the same way as before. I think the Ducks were the darling team for the NHL so they let some calls slide here and there... Not to mention the Ottawa penalties late in the game were utterly predictable.

The ducks did NOT deserve it and did NOT earn it. I don't think they played that well at all. The wins and the score are all that matters, but to say this team earned it is far fetched...

The ducks didn't do ANYTHING better than the wings. They got lucky as hell. 1st goal wasn't because of pressure on the net or any of that garbage, it was a lucky bounce off of lidstrom. The 2nd goal was a lucky fan on a pass by lilja and salami made an individual effort to score. The ducks just aren't a good team. They are a lucky team. The 5-0 blowout showed how the ducks play when the bounces aren't going their way.

I don't really read the local stuff, they tend to be archaic in their reporting and i can't stand Mitch the *****'s radio show, so i don't read anything he writes either. The man is a hack on the radio. I have major political disagreements with the man, but he is so inconsistent with his statements and bought into a story that a documented liar was spouting on his show. For these reasons i find it hard to believe he'd get anything right or pose any serious thoughts about anything sports related. As for newspapers in general, i don't actively seek them out, but if an article pops up on Yahoo's hockey news roster i'll usually read it.

And i'll be content watching his sorry ass get booed on TV. I wonder if he will whine about that and insist that it's like throwing stuff on the ice and that the home team should be assessed a penalty. I wonder if he'll insist that the people booing get thrown out of the game? He is a big crybaby and i wouldn't be surprised if he started complaining to the refs about all the Booing.

Lidstrom should be Norris hands down. He's the guy who has led this team through the regular season to tie for first place (defaulting to 2nd cause of wins) for regular season points for the team. His style of play and how he dominates the half of the game he is on the ice is a considerable contribution to this red wings team and their success so far this year. This team has accomplished way more than any commentator has predicted at the begining of the season, or the playoffs. As for conn smythe, so far i would lean toward homer. He's been a huge part of the offensive machine for the wings. I think if the wings make it to the finals, it will be whoever emerges as a hero from that series, not so much who has had a big hand throughout the playoffs. If dom controls a few games he's as much a contender as anyone else.

grats to the sens! I wanted to see Buffalo win and thats who my pick was to win that series, but looks like they didn't have it in them this series. If the wings win this round, my pick is gonna be wings over the sens in 6 games again. If the ducks win this round, my pick is gonna be sense over ducks in 5. I think the ducks got nothing on the sens, and definitely nothing on the wings, but hey, anything could happen. I think San Jose was a better team than the ducks are. for the wings to be on par with their previous performances against a supposedly better team in the 3rd round is pretty good IMO

But you know if there were north and south conferences, there would be the whole racism and "yanks vs confederates" thing made by the media in particular. They like to do that sort of thing even if it seems totally off the wall to a normal person... Basically it would be a huge Political Correctness "No-No" and the media would be all over it.

Good article. I think it's a good thing for the wings that Pronger is being as stubborn as he is. He's gonna come out and play frustrated tomorrow and make mistakes and take penalties. I'm ready for it. As far as the rest of the equation, Is Hasek gonna be on his game? The history shows that after a big loss, Hasek does pretty good. I'd look for Hasek to be on his game tomorrow. I think the wings are gonna come out and play with some passion tomorrow as they have in the previous game 5's this year. I predicted the wings in 6 before this series started, and i sure hope i'm right!

Nice. Burke was way out of line trying to blame anyone other than his goons for that hit. Homer was just trying to play the puck and got blindsided. Whether his helmet was loose or not means nothing when your face is being smashed into the boards from behind. It's a dirty hit whether or not the helmet is loose.
