NHL...... The model of consistency. Bad as Brashear? Not really. But according to the way they've been calling things, it called for a game at least.
-
Yeah I was wondering how many cheap shots people were pulling on each other under there.
-
I agree. The only thing Sammy has going for him is his shot, but what the hell good is that if he never uses it? They need guys with a killer instinct on the PP, plain and simple.

That's what she said.

These things are always "he said, she said". And players' respective camps are always going to defend them regardless. Carlisle defended Pronger's hit on Holmstrom in 07' to the death for crying out loud, and that was about as close to a clean hit as motor oil is to lemonade. So it didn't really surprise me when he defended Brown. And on the flip side I'd certainly expect Babcock to call this dirty which he did. Some fans are the same way, but opinions will vary. I say let people talk, that's what makes places like LGW interesting right? In the end it's up to the league not the fans anyway. IMO if the league wants to call these things consistently it will certainly be a suspension, but the tough call is on how long to suspend him. Brown knew what he was doing and he took it too far by following through on Hudler's head instead of pulling up. While it doesn't excuse it, Hudler is guilty of leaving himself vulnerable. Having said that, leaving yourself open for contact is not suspendable, and it's Brown's responsibility to adjust his approach. He could have taken Hudler well out of the play without the injury causing force he used, he was clearly trying to send a message in response to Hudler's elbow earlier on Beauchemin, and crossed the line in doing so. Just my .02

ESPN can kiss my ass regardless. Their problem anymore is making too many cutsie smart ass comments and not providing enough decent coverage. Of any sport. They called the Brown hit on Hudler as a hit on Beauchemin ffs, that's just negligent, and a complete lack of any decent editorial presence.

Now just imagine him and Fischer on the same pairing. Too damn bad Fisch ran into health issues, I'll never forget when he got a hold of Hartnell after recovering from the ACL injury he caused. Not a man I would ever want upset with me, that's for sure.

A human being made a mistake? Preposterous! -
Well that was probably the only time I will root for a Shark this year, but damn what a job.

"We have come here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and we're all out of bubble gum." edit: well okay Babcock is NEVER out of bubblegum, but everyone else is!

I think hfboards hates wings because of the euro players
#19forPresident! replied to Phazon's topic in General
Well any jackalope knows rule changes have encouraged finesse / scoring and penalized toughness, but that doesn't change the fact that finesse can negate toughness. We ARE talking about players in the current NHL not the Hansons and Slapshot, so the statement is spot on. -

People fear what they don't understand, and frankly a lot of people are still mystified by how finesse can negate toughness. -
Would the Wings be better off had they Pursued Goalie Instead of Hossa

We didn't need Hossa's money to get a decent goalie. We got one for 750K, his name is Ty Conklin. He was decent last year when he took over for MAF and he's playing even better now. Osgood is decent as well, most sports fans know goalies and pitchers are the biggest heroes and the biggest scapegoats depending on the outcome of games. Bottom line is our defense left our goaltending hanging out to dry. It's not really hard to understand for anybody that saw the game, once your defence hangs 4+ GA's on you it's understandable to lose your composure in net. Frankly besides the disgruntled Pens fan angle, I don't see where it makes sense to question whether we should have wasted Hossa, who is on pace for an 80 + point season despite injuries, to get a pricey goalie when we have both a 4 time cup champion and cup runner up from last year signed. -
I remember people talking about Zetterberg's skating for a long time, I think it's a testament to our organization when you watch how prospects develop here. Given the environment I think players are willing to put in the extra effort to make sure they meet their development goals and keep themselves around. Who knows, maybe this kid will be our next surprise

Well I guess the thing to remember is, they paid for their ticket too. My best suggestion is to ***** at them, s***ty I know but there honestly isn't much else to do. When we played Calgary 1st round in 07' I watched a drunk (not exactly a fair generalization as I was VERY drunk too, but there are just some people who shouldn't drink because they don't know how to relax and have a good time they insist on being obnoxious pricks) Wings fan almost get jumped in the middle of the isle because he was running up and down with his "f***-the-flamessss!" blabber. About 20 of us told him in no uncertain terms to sit down and shut the hell up or he was going to revisit every step he just came up with his face. He ended up getting hauled off by security once things heated up and people started really ******* with him. That was kind of a clear cut case, but I catch your drift having been to games on a regular basis over the years I've seen a decline in the quality of attending fan etiquette.

Did no one else watch the game last night?

I think it was good for the guys to have their asses handed to them unexpectedly. For starters you can't win all the time, and not to mention being completely embarrassed is just what a team that is used to winning needs to stay grounded and find motivation to improve. Losing to Nashville definitely accomplishes that sort of embarrassment (no offense Predators fans, but lets be realistic) under any circumstances much less being shut out 8-nil. Yea sure their fans wear thin quickly, but how often will they get the chance to yell we suck and actually be right about it? I can't blame them, live it up while it lasts. Can't really be mad at them either, we did suck. Bad. Either learn from it and rediscover the standard of work ethic Detroit typifies or stumble and fork over the hardware.....Survival of the fittest. To whom much is given, much is expected..... I bet there isn't a single player that doesn't feel like s*** when they walk out of the locker room and read that before the next practice. Personally I still like our chances -19FP -

me either, or Thornton himself for that matter, after all he saw the hit coming before he decided to turn his back.

Cal Clutterbuck........ I don't know why, but every time I hear his name I get this feeling that can only be cured by playing chess in the middle of I-75 during rush hour.
