No, hockey has always been a low scoring game for the most part, and the nets havve been about this size for how long now? If you don't have the talent to score on a net this size you don't deserve to score. What should be changed is the size of the goalie pads. They used to play with no helmets or face masks, and what goalie holds the record for most shutouts ever? It's Sawchuk, granted it was a different time and all but he played standup without a mask for a long time in his career. Eventually he did get one and was greatful that he did, but his pads were also nowhere near the size that they are today, and he played standup not butterfly. The nets are fine. It is the pads that are too big. And if you want to argue that the pads are for protection when they get plowed into, then get rid of the instagator rule and let the guys out there defend the goalies seeing as how the refs can't seem to.

Yes, leave the nets alone, get rid of the instagator rule...and for Christ sakes make the pads smaller.

Awesome if this holds true I will be happier than a pig in s***. Sorry that I didn't clarify as to what it was whoever it was that asked.

Does anyone know when the NHL network is going to be avalible in the states on a wide scale?
-
I agree totaly that pad size has gotten way out of control, I think people wouldnt call for bigger nets if the pad problem was solved. But like I did say earlier players crashing into them needs to be solved. Brodur would be correct to argue that point, but not to attempt to justify the pads.

I would like to ammend this statement, I meant the Slot and not the actual crease It is a goal crease for a reason
-
I have always felt that you do not touch an opponent's goalie for any reason. Sure defenders sometimes throw people into them and that is understood. But just piling into the net like some players do is just nuts to try and justify. I think if we got rind of the instigator rule teams would do a better job than the refs can of protecting goalies. I also agree that if you decide to hang out in the crease you should get a fair share of punishment, I know Homer wouldn't complain he does take his at times.

No they didn't send it for nothing, they sent it because they in a sense rented Keth for a stronger chance at the cup in last year's playoffs. Basically the price was the 4th rounder, and if they would have won the cup, the 1st rounder.

I always saw him going back, and tto tell the truth I really don't see Forsberg staying with nashville. I think it will al most be like they got a "rent-a-player" for the playoffs.

Couldn't have said it better myself. But then you also have to consider all O6 teams as traditonal rivals, I know I do.

Holland: Hard desicions must be made.
Gordie Howe hat trick replied to Majsheppard's topic in General
Hasek is nessessary to keep hands down. But I would also like to see Big Bert in the winged wheel once again. Markov was good but not all that great, and Matt had broken wrist. Seeing as how I broke mine about a year ago you can't tell me that his wrist will ever be the same. It would be less of a gamble on Bert to preform, and Hasek is just solid. -
But don't the Preds still have Mason? And if I recall correctly he is pretty decent in his own right.

How many here have played hockey?
Gordie Howe hat trick replied to detroitdeviant's topic in General
I played when I was a kid before middle school, and played all throughout high school. When I was younger I played left side D for the most part, then I moved into the goal and decided I loved that even more. So it is kind of a Dom story. But, then I grew out of my skates and a majority of my pads, and it seems we all know how expensive the sport can be. In the end college won out over hockey, allthough when I am through school, and making some real money it will gome right back to the front burner. -
Holland: Prices for Bertuzzi, Schneider & Markov high
Gordie Howe hat trick replied to kindlwillbegreat's topic in General
I think that Schneider is an excellent D man and everything, but I think we have people that could step up to fill his place too I think. Although...another thing to take into account is that broken wrist that he just suffered. I broke my wrist a year or so ago, and it has not been the same since. -
cant can I say? the Wings breed some classy gyys, but I hav always liked Manny...Always.

The thing is I do like a good scrap here and there, but really im my eyes comparing the pests and enforcers of the 70's to the pests and lack of enforcers today is what really makes my list. If players were still allowed to fight in the NHL then I think my list would see some drastic changes. However, all we have now are cheap shot artists that can't back it up or won't because of the instigator rule. Like I said in another forum, if you are trying to entice people to watch hockey by eliminating fighting and those johnny-come-latlies don't like the fighting or understand it. Then fine I don't want you watching my NHL, I have no need for you. However if enforcers were still legit in this league im sure Probert would find a way onto my list not really because I hate him but because everyone else did, and he always won his fights...and it gets dull when you already know who will win

Would we have won the Cup if Yzerman played?
Gordie Howe hat trick replied to kindlwillbegreat's topic in General
As much as I love the Captain, I think that he was not the most productive offensive forward that he used to be nor the defensive one that he once was. This is to be expected with age, but he wouldn't have tipped the scales in my opinion. -
I guess it is because Avery doesn't reall'y annoy us, or we have bigger fish to fry in the West. That and last I shecked Ekicia Cuthbert, hot as she is world rather date me than any other!!!

1. Claude (How could you defend him?) 2. Hull (Bends the corners cards that he signs, for kids no less. Oh yeah we can't forget he is the greatest player ever, although he has to keep reminding me every time he is on TV.) 3. Pronger (It's not my fault im tall it is a "Law of physics" that I would elbow all of them in the head.) 4. Roneck (Needs to call it a career, and throws fits when the Great One benches him trying to let him recop.) 5. Roy (I like the butterfly style, but s*** we all know why we hate Roy.) Honorable meantion Tootoo, (I am sure in a season or two he will make my top five, easily.)
-
Spam rules! I can't beleive you want to get rid of it on the boards...
-
It is Schneider for sure, but even if it comes down to us not needing the D man that Schneider is if we sign him we could trade him for some more offense. Assuming he doesn't have a no trade clause in his contract.
-
Exactly, no O6 team should ever be contracted for any reason. It is part of the history of the game. And I know of many rabid Hawks fans that just don't want to go to the United Center to watch their team lose, what is the fun in that? The thing is, as much as I agree with Nashville TN not needing a hockey team...Bettman is in bed with the owners so hey aren'g going to be contracted no matter what.
-
I hope this does kind of rekindle Samsonov's career, it would make for som more exciting games with the Hawks, and if that happened maybe we could get a better rivalry going with em'.
-
I remember going to a bunch of mallards games when they were a powerhouse and won the back to back cups, I must say I am kinda sad to see them leave. But maybe Calgary will bring some new exciting talent into the Mark...who knows?

Either way, it's all production cost and supply rather than value of the dollar in both cases.
