I personally don't have anything against 'em. We had a couple guys here do the same thing in orange when our CHL team went to the playoffs, and it was a blast in person. Though I do have to kinda agree with the league's stance that they can't be hanging upside down and crap off the penalty box. Not so much because it's a distraction to the guy in the box (f*** 'em) but it's a liability for the Canucks, their building, and the NHL if they fall off, break something and land on a spectator, etc. That kinda press isn't what the NHL needs, random fans breaking stuff and landing on old women xD

Come on yo - his team just won their first playoff series in franchise history. That's gotta be exciting for any fan. I'd consider that right up there with other mutually exciting sports events in my fandom too. Glad the Ducks are gone My playoff pool with some friends is lookin' mighty fine! All three closed out series I've gotten right, and even tagged the perfect 4-1 for the Rangers/Caps series.

I came on to say something akin to this myself. The situation in Phoenix is one that I think we all kinda take for granted. Detroit has a phenomenal ownership situation and I can't even begin to imagine how difficult it had to have been with the players trying to focus on the game when the state of the entire franchise was and is still in question. Despite that, they still pushed to make the playoffs and even if people disagree that they were working hard in the series - they never rolled over and let us walk all over them. Much respect for fighting both the adversity against a team like Detroit AND the management.

I've got a close friend who's going through chemo right now for testicular cancer, so we'll just toss Burr into the thought circle and call 'er a day. Hope someone gets hold of the DRW organization to get him our well wishes! It's always good to know you're in someone's thoughts.

So Friday night, I was at my CHL opening night and overheard a guy in the next row behind me talking about the Blues and their new season ticket plans. http://blues.nhl.com/club/page.htm?id=64064 Apparently, the Blues are SO convinced they're making the playoffs this year, they're offering a limited season ticket promotion where you pay half of the season ticket balance up front... and the other half when the Blues clinch a playoff spot this year. I gotta think they have a real shot, but man... can you imagine the deficit if they DON'T make the playoffs? It's a really interesting concept though. I wonder if any other teams have tried something like this?

I'm not surprised. The snow itself started in Kansas City around 6am and it's still coming down with no sign of stopping any time soon - and St. Louis got several hours of ice before any snow moved into the area. My boys took the bus to Denver to play the Eagles tomorrow, but I don't know if their game is going to be postponed either. It'll be interesting to see what the weather is going to do for the next couple days worth of games.

I don't think you're confused. I was thinking about that too. If Detroit were to give him "time to get ready" though, I think it's more along the lines of us weaning him into the system and not just chucking him into the starting position ASAP as I'd imagine the Islanders would do with the injuries they've already got in goal. Perhaps warming up from relief for Jimmy, to a legit 1A and 1B tandem? I'm kinda grasping at straws here, but that's how I'm reading it from Nabby. He wants a chance to shine, Detroit likely said that when he's ready, he'll get a shot to get in there and mix it up - but he knows Detroit isn't going to 100% rely on him the minute the contract went through.

The no-goal on Zetterberg was utter garbage. I -really- dislike that whole 'intent to blow' nonsense. And seriously, crossbar much? Was that the same ref who was at the LA/Phoenix game?

Local adult leagues out here require both health AND dental insurance proof before they'll let you sign onto a team. Full cages, yadda yadda.. I'm trying to get back into the swing of getting on the ice after I broke my ankle last winter. Plus the gear isn't exactly cheap. I'm only maybe a 1/3rd of the way there, and female chest protectors aren't like their dime-a-dozen male counterparts. Good on the OP wanting to get into the game
