Jiri has his skills and its good to see he is finding his groove again but my thinking is that we have too many pass first players and maybe if his trade value is great enough he can be used to get us either a sniper and or player that isn't afraid to be physical... we need both imo.

I'm glad he has picked things up and in turn upped his trade value. I hope he is used in a trade before Invisible Jiri Hudler takes to the ice in the play offs again.

I was one who was one the fence when it looked like Jagr could have been coming to Detroit.. I figured if he came at the right price why not. I think he signed for 3 mill for 1 year and it looks like he can still play. Now seeing what he has done this far in the season would you welcome him to Detroit at the same price? He'd be a monster on our top 2 lines. Great pickup for Philly.

There are plenty of coaches from North America that are hired to coach in various league's around the world and I have never heard or read about this sort of thing happening anywhere else. The worst part about it is that the Gov't officials are complaining about something so stupid when they should be focusing their efforts on the things that really matter in the community... and as someone mentioned there are plenty of negative things in montreal for them to be focusing on! Grow up Quebecois, French is dying a slow painful death in Canada and no matter how to try to force feed it you are out numbered and you won't win. I now live in Ottawa and there is a nice blending of English and French here without the need to fight and force it upon people. Most people here speak both languages quite well and more important quite willingly.

Yes they are... big time. But you forgot to add hypocrites also. They refuse to have a non-french speaking coach UNLESS its a coach like Mike Babcock?!?! So the language isn't all THAT important if you can bend for some people. What a bunch of idiots! You'd think their main concern would be having a team worth watching, who cares what language the coach speaks as long as he coaches the team to winning.

Red Wings only here... I've lived in Calgary, Montreal and now Ottawa and I have gone to see games in each city but I will NEVER wear anything but Red Wings gear. Lol, my wife is from Montreal and is a Habs fan, I won't even drink out of her Canadiens cup that she has.

Man, Hearing him say Cromwell was a mild annoyance before but after this thread it is driving me nuts hearing it! Thanks LOL. That and how often he talks about hotdogs... I hope he knows hotdogs are made from the bumholes and lips of pigs.

San Jose shook things up to change the dynamic of their team after they had not been able to advance farther in the playoffs the past few seasons... they tried it a few times with the same team and got the same result so they made some bold moves and made their team bigger, tougher and more of a play off team without disrupting their style of play. I think its about time we see the same type of thing in Detroit. It will take moving some good players as San Jose did, maybe Franzen, Filpula and Hudler in exchange for some new pieces on our team. We've been trying with basically the same team for a few years now and getting the same result and its high time for some big change.

You aren't getting on my nerves... we are just not seeing it the same way. I'd rather see my team play exciting hockey and lose 7-4 then adopt the rope a dope strategy and bore everyone to victory. Shows a lack of defensive creativity on the coaches part imo. Standing around in the neutral zone is not playing hockey in my eye's.

Hey I guess you are right... I suppose Philly coach should have realized how effective that system was and had his team go out and do that same thing. Have all 10 of the players on the ice standing around between the blue lines... how is that for some imagination?! Sounds like a really fun game to be at... watching them all standing around getting paid to play hockey. Judging by the fans reactions they were not having fun nor were they being entertained. For the amount of money they are paid they should have a better game plan then standing around and waiting.

Let's add some more boredom to the game and remove some more fun. Legal or not 1-3-1 is lame. If I were one of the talented players on a team using that strategy I would protest it because you are taking away my ability to beat you with my skills and replacing it with beating you with a boring system. The Tampa Bay fans boo'd the team for their strategy and I join them BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I still love Stevie and always will and he made his mark as a scorer during a time when the game was fun and exciting I'm sad he would back such a system and help to remove more fun from the game. How many Wings game would you go to pay and see if the team sat around like that? For me the answer would be ZERO, I can find ways to bore myself for free. I would not contribute my hard earned money for million dollar salaries to watch these players sit around and wait like that.

I won tickets to see the Sens vs Panthers game last night and it was the most boring game I have ever watched. The most exciting part was watching the little kids playing 3 on 3 during the first intermission. I couldn't believe my eye's to see Kopecky wearing the Assistant Captain's A on his jersey... LOL. I thought there would be some that would be amused by this. Btw, He is just as bad in Florida as he was on the Wings.

The coach can't make the players go and win the puck battles. He has been saying they need to shoot more but they don't. Maybe if he puts on some equipment and goes out and does it him self it will inspired the rest?

Hoss was already proven and has remained the best out of the 3 players mentioned (Sammy, Hudler and Franzen)... I just don't think you ever let a player of his caliber slip through for a lousy Million. If he was asking for something ridiculous is another story but that was not the case.

I don't like Hudler... Yes, I am still bitter about how he bolted to the KHL then came crying back. But, he can be a good little player and definitely has his skill set. Maybe the teams needs also changed while he was away and a trade would be in both parties best interest. I've been on the fence with Fil and this year is the year I have liked him the most but you are right.. we have way to many pass first players and not enough willing to lean into a hard, meaning full shot on net. I'd be more inclined to see Hudler and maybe Franzen traded. We had Hossa in our grasp and let him slip through.. that still stings to me. Hossa had a bad playoff with us in terms of points but he is a shoot first player that was awesome defensively. he should have been the priority to sign over Franzen imho.

Leino was asked to play in a way for us that didn't fit his skills set... he was traded and did considerably better when he could play in a way that allowed him to be more comfortable. Reading the above comment from Hudler makes me think that trading Hudler to a team where he'd be able to play his style more in return for a player that would better fit our needs and style maybe be a good option. Hudler is sucking for us, Penner is sucking for LA.... maybe a Hudler for Penner trade might be beneficial for both teams?!
