Should we risk our future for an elite defenseman?
The Secret replied to dropkickshanahans's topic in General
Lids will leave an unfillable void but we won't suddenly drop to the bottom of the barrel! We have 3 really good defensemen in Rafalski, Stuart, Kronwall and if Ericsson learns how to play a big mans game and Smith and Kindl keep progressing we should be ok on Defense... we may not be able to get away with Mr. Mediocre in net anymore though. -
I wouldn't let Dave Lewis coach a peewee hockey team. This move will ensure the Ukraine doesn't go far in competition!

Crosby haters will hate this but it was not a bad scrap... I'd call it a draw but I love the heart they showed. I personally am a fan of Crosby (minus the whiny fits) but the kid can play and I love that he will throw down from time to time.... and people question his leadership?! Scores, Assists, Hits and occasionally fights... if only we could bring him to Hockeytown!
-
More often then not helmets are left on... its not just Crosby. Remember Joe Kocur's f***ed up knuckles? Didn't happen from getting them slammed in the door.
-
A Grappling match is still a fight and... for 2 non-fighters they held their own. You expect them to show like Probert vs Domi?
-
I said our Big boys... big like Franzen is big but he acts as though he's been shot in the face after getting a facewash instead of being a big man and fighting back. I tried to find the video on it but couldn't happened a few year ago if I'm not mistaken.
-
Stamkos is definitely a gooder too but I'm with Carman... Crosby has been at or near the top since he started, plus he's won the Cup, plus he's got a Gold medal, plus he's even been in a few fights. I'd welcome Stamkos too but at this point Crosby's been in way more wars and has proven he can last. Hell we can't even get our big boys to fight as Crosby has..
-
Not many of the high end players like Crosby will drop the gloves and given that he isn't known for fighting I thought he did pretty well... want to see some horribly bad fights google some of Gretzky's and then this one looks like a George St. Pierre fight in comparison.

I to the above 3 posters... I just have a different opinion. I didn't slam Holland for this, I didn't say I hated Miller and I sure didn't say that keeping Ritola was the answer to all our problems. Whats wrong with wanting to see a home grown kid get a chance? Its like you can even have a different view on this board with out getting the gears for one thing or another. I just would have liked to see what he could have done and it would have had to come at someone's expense...that someone for me would have been Miller. Its my opinion, I'm not asking you to like it.
-
Miller has been floating around the NHL for the last 5 years for 3 different teams and Ritola hasn't even been given a fair shake as far as I see. Sometimes you have to roll the dice and gamble a bit, in this instance I would have done it by keeping Ritola and cutting Miller loose and I would done so with the confidence that at the very least Ritola would have been an equal replacement and could be more... It would have been a very safe bet and could produce some surprising rewards.
-
The problem wasn't signing Modano (who I know will be fine with some more time) which pushed Ritola out... it was signing Miller and keeping him over Ritola. I have nothing against Miller but he's nothing but a plug. I'd have taken the chance on Ritola and let Miller loose... Ritloa could have at the very least been the same as Miller but he will turn out to be more. Miller has 1 assist and a -4 in 9 games Ritola has a Goal and Assist and a - 2 in 4 games
-
I'm worried... Let's just hope our forwards can score 5 or 6 goals this game to cover for the 4+ goals Osgood is sure to allow. If there ever was a time for Osgood to show he can still play good enough for this team its now!

Big loss for the s***hawks... sad to see Hoss go down with how he's been playing but couldn't care any less since he's in chicago. I love watching them swirling around the toilet like the turd that just won't accept where its destined to be heading!
-
It's honestly too soon to sit anyone yet. They will need some more time to play together to work out the bugs... Modano's new, Hudler's been away and Cleary you can put anywhere. They need more time.
-
He wants to show everyone that he hasn't lost his power to become invisible while traveling abroad... Trade Him! He should have some value and could bring in a player of comparable skill. Never was a big Hudler fan.

No need to fret folks... its the Leafs! They could have non-calls like this all season long and still find a way to screw it all up.

Adam Burish: Chris Pronger Is The Biggest Idiot In The League
The Secret replied to jeff48109's topic in General
I'd happily take the biggest idiot in the league to play for us! I had a hard time at first when we signed Chelios, who back then was the biggest idiot in the league for many the same reasons as Pronger, but I got over it pretty quickly and learned to appreciate Cheli and what he did for our team... he's my Fav Yankee player now! -
Cool article... thanks for sharing that!

Boarderline dirty hit like every one of his big one's.... Wasn't blind side, didn't have much choice in where to hit him due to positioning, he did left his feet though and looked like some elbow action. Debatable either way.. I wouldn't suspend that hit.

Excellent point! These goalies are work horses during the reg season and can't help but be tired come play off. People knocking Loungo saying he hasn't won anything yet to prove himself should keep that point in mind. He was named Captain of his team because they realize the importance of what he does, he was called on to replace one of the best goalies of all time and won Gold for Canada and he's been a work horse at the NHL level since he was 20 years old!? That a goalie I'd want to build my team around. Honestly, Howard has no business even being mentioned on a list with World Class goalies like Lou, Brodeur, Kipper and Lund.... Howard finally earned a spot to play in the NHL by default at the age of 26. He's done well and shown he can be good enough on this team but hasn't shown anything that would make him be the centrepiece to build my team around! He has the potential to be decent but still needs alot of work and he's getting a late start in comparison.
