Wings Transactions You Loved Which Unfortunately Failed

I'm with you... I Loved Cujo and thought he stood on his head for us. It was not his fault the team couldn't score! -
Wings Transactions You Loved Which Unfortunately Failed
The Secret replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I remember being really excited to get Bill Ranford but he bit it hard. Maybe Luc Robitaille also, I always liked Luc but he never really found his spot like I'd hoped for in Detroit... I think he was always a King at heart anyway. -
Mirasty is awesome! He fights some really big boys eh... No Fear?!

Will the Top Team in the West Purposely Lose to Avoid Playing Detroit?
The Secret replied to a topic in General
Exactly... purposely trying to lose games for position would be the equivalent to a fighter ducking fights because he knows he is out matched by his opponent and he could lose. I think the goal is to win every game you possibly can and win for being the best team playing the best hockey at the right times... and beating the best teams and not to try and re-position your team to player a "weaker" team to have a better chance, come play off time the playing field is alot more level then its ever been and any team has a chance to win. -
Red Wings GM Ken Holland hasn't given up on wandering Jiri Hudler
The Secret replied to a topic in General
I'm with you on this one... I'd rather have a player that wants to be in Detroit. the way he left cost us signing a player we could have used this year (...even if that player was Samuelsson) He was a veird little dude... his Clucking thing he did for Osgood was creepy -
His illegal hit from behind ended Campbell's season! Players must be held accountable for their actions and Ovechkin has had many dirty hits. Would everyone's opinion be different if he did the same thing to Kronwall or Stuart or would it remain the same because its Ovechkin?

Hudler and Dynamo Moscow out in first round of playoffs
The Secret replied to CenterIce's topic in General
I hope the little bastard comes back long enough for us to trade him! -
Watch it again and look at his knee... knees aren't made to bend that way. Why not try that position yourself and let us all know how you make out... oh and while your knee is tweaked and is supporting your body weight + someone elses try embellishing it for dramatic effect.

Nothing questionable about that stupid and dangerous move. Downie is a dirty cheap player and has proved that many times in the past. If his intent wasn't to injure him then what other possible explaination could their be for doing anything like that? You don't have to like Crosby to see plainly that it was dirty and it hurt... lucky there was nothing serious done but there should still be repercussions regardless imo. Just think if that similar move was done on Zetterberg or Datsyuk... would be dirty then?

I'm not very big on either goalie. Nor do I feel comfortable that Howard can be consistent enough to be a full time #1. I think it would be ideal if we could get them working better in tandem and sharing the load more evenly but Osgood's play this year has moved things in this direction. Osgood won't be going anywhere, who would want him really? But if he can pick his play back up to be able to rotate the 2 we will be fine... right now they both stink, just one stinks worse then the other.
-
It's not a lack of drive that differentiates the 2 as much as a different style. Puck possession is a Euro players dream system... Old schooled hard nosed, take a lump give a lump style thats needed when the puck possession isn't working does not suit most Euro players!
-
Very nicely put Micah! Maybe this team has the pieces capable of making this a better team but the heart is not there most of the time... and inspired effort by one or 2 player now and then isn't going to cut it. I wish we could inject Helm's effort and work ethic into the rest of the team... then we'd see some change immediately

How the hell does Babcock hold a lead from the bench? In the end the players are on the ice and have to do the work. Babcock got raving reviews from the Canadian players from the Olympics and the coaching staff and everyone else... there is only so much he can do. One thing he can't is play for the players... they have to want to do what he says. Also, how is he mishandling the goalies? We are starved for points and he is playing the goalie that is playing the best... The End! He doesn't have the wiggle room to throw Osgood in to lose games until he can find his way out of his slump and play better. Howard is playing better then Osgood (which isn't saying much) and so he gets the starts... neither goalie is playing great but Howard is playing better then Osgood.

I make up of this team is quite different them what we have become accustomed too especially with the number and quality of the players that left and add to that the number of injuries we have had to contend with. We cannot play the puck possession style as well as we have in the past and we need more players willing to play some old time hockey and muck hard in the corners, drive strong to the net, shoot the puck with some effort behind the shot, block pucks and fight hard to win the individual battles.... this won't happen with a Euro-filled team. Hopefully we can get some better balance this off season and find some players to fit the bill capable of playing both puck possession if its working and also good old fashioned hockey of its not. Having mediocre goalies on this mediocre team is exposing them as a serious hole also... more then ever with the lack of fire power to hide them under.

"Careful Huey, some ******* keeps farting in my pants!"

Since I don't think we will be going very far if we do make the play offs I want for us to be the team that hands Chicago a 1st round upset and spoil the season for them!

This is hilarious...what does he dial directory assistance and ask for the "Nick Lidstrom residence somewhere in Michigan near Detroit probably" or does the NHL provide a player phonebook to everyone in the case that they miss a handshake so they can call and explain that is was not intentional... the intent to shake was there?! Even better... after a tough tournament and right after scoring the GWG in OT to win the Gold medal on home ice he would have been better to think and say say to the local media that they were lucky to score and didn't deserve to win!
-
Greatest goaltender in history or not if he was playing well he would have stayed playing but he wasn't and that was obvious from the first period. What were we supposed to do just let him play on because he is Marty Brodeur? It wasn't pushing him under the bus it was giving the goalie who was playing better the time on ice. Remember when Babcock replaced Hasek with Osgood and the rest was history. Wilsons bitter bc different goalie had a different outcome that was not to his favour. Same with his comment on the puck hitting the ref's skate... there are so many little mis-cue's in a game for both teams... sometimes they can capitalize on it and sometimes its missed its part of the game.

Well said... and I agree. The media makes and breaks things to have something to talk about. This is going on page 15 of the billionth Crosby thread on a red wings fan board. People love to hate him and that keeps them talking about him.. negative press is still press and keeps people talking! Man I probably would have died by now had I been in his position at his age!
-
This. Love him or hate him the kid is a winner and his resume above shows it all.... AND he is only 22! I do not feel he was all that great for most of the Olympic tourny, there were more impressive showings for sure, BUT his hard work in OT won us the game. It is what it is!

Maltby was an important part of this team for a long time but I think its time to move on and I hope they do not re-sign him to anything. Miller and Eaves have both fit into this team and I would rather see the ice time given to either of them or Abdelkader. Good luck Malts, hope you get better fast amd i also hope you decide to go into another direction. I think once retired the Grind Line should reunite to host a Wings game talk show or maybe a Grind Line segment similar to Coaches Corner!
-
Sounds like an over payment for an under achiever especially not knowing how he will fit in with the team after only 7 games played... what's going on in Calgary? I think the next head that should roll in Cowtown should be Sutter's!
-
....not really related to the topic but I thought it was funny enough to share anyway
-
Even in retirement Stevie still shows why he is/was/and always will be the best! Babcock is still building his impressive legacy and now to return his focus on getting our Red Wings back to the winning... there is alot to be said for all the great things said about Babcock by all the Team Canada players and Staff! Congrats to Stevie and Coach Babcock!
